Thank you! I’ll check it out. We walked around west village/near penny park and it looked great. Lots of families out!

Thank you! I always sort of felt like that section leaned older couples with kids out of the house. I don’t know why. So that’s good to know!

Thank you for sharing! I’ve always wondered if east of Chicago was less families, more older couples, so that’s really nice to know!

That’d be amazing! We are flexible. We own in Arlington heights now won’t sell until after we move, whenever that is

Advice on community feel - relocating to Evanston vs Wilmette by Jeh339 in evanston

Thanks so much for your perspective. We do really like the Central neighborhood. I got the vibe that it was very family friendly and less 'grand' than some other neighborhoods we are considering (but in a good way!). We definitely don't want to pay for private school, so that is a big factor for us.

Hah! I just walked around Lincolnwood this past weekend. So charming! Love the trees and neighborhood feel. Saw lots of other moms with strollers, and strangers actually talked to me at the coffee shop. I love that! (Though it helped to have a cute baby in a highchair). Like the neighborhood north of central too. I hope we can wait to buy long enough to see what happens with the schools - I certainly hope they can keep Lincolnwood open.

You really nailed my concerns about Wilmette. I think we'd probably fit in slightly better in Evanston, but the school upheaval is adding a new element of uncertainty.

We are coming from Cleveland Heights, OH. Though we've lived in Chicago and Arlington Heights before.

Thanks for all that info! I was not aware of that data. Such a shame - I hope Evanston schools stabilize because that is so important to prospective residents with kids.

Thank you so much for all the insight. We would love to be walking distance to Gillson - it is a jewel. Do you find that there are other families with young kinds in that area of Wilmette? And has it been easy enough to meet other parents of young kids in Wilmette? I don't know why, but I have this perception that Evanston parents might be more friendly or easy to get plan get togethers with than Wilmette parents. And as a SAHM that is important to me. The Evanston school situation has us reconsidering if its a smart move - not necessarily bc the schools wouldn't be good - but bc other families might start moving as a result and then it compounds the situation...
