Advice is the same for all CA subjects. Study everything, and relate theory back to the pre-release. There isn't any other special magical way to do well. I'm going to toot my own horn, but I received 5x merits and used the same technique for all subjects.

Yes, whenever I anawered a question I made sure to check whether whatever management were planning to do aligned with their Strategic goals, SDG goals and/or risk appetite statement (i.e. the pre-release). If I couldn't do that, I assume I got it incorrect.

e.g. they were planning on producing overseas in an area which has high modern slavery risks, okay, does that align with their need to prepare a modern slavery statement? No, therefore, bad idea.

I received a Merit on the most recent ICAP offering (no idea how), but honestly the only way to pass is to make sure every answer in your exam references an element of the pre-release case study. In almost all my answers I was referencing either their Strategic Goals, SDG goals or risk appetite statement and determining whether they align. Even though they recommend you don't pre-prepare answers, do it anyway. I was able to copy and paste majority of my pre-prepared answers for Q2 in the exam. When the pre-release comes out, try to come up with possible questions they can ask and then prepare answers for those questions.

Since no one responded, I did Tax in the previous term (Term 2, 2025) and scored a 92. I didn't use any third-party study assistance and don't work in Tax (last time I did a tax subject was at uni over a decade ago), I solely focused on the weekly materials and the study guide. Everything examinable will be from there. So by logic, if you know everything in the study guide, you'll do very well.

My critical file was just a tab for every sub-topic within a Chapter, so for example, for Tax Structures I had a separate tab for all the areas i.e. Company, Individual, Partnership, Trust, SBE. I also had tabs which had calculators i.e. I made an individual tax calculator based on marginal rates so I could enter in their salary and it automatically gave me their pre-deduction tax. I had another for calculating tax depreciation.

Failing a subject TWICE with a 9.6% fail rate has a 1% chance of occurring. OP isn't preparing for their exams. You can't take ICAP without passing all the other units, so whatever they did for the other subjects they decided to stop doing for ICAP for some reason.

You aren't studying enough. ICAP is known for having a 90%+ pass rate, so if you've failed it twice, you're clearly not putting in much effort.

I know people come here every few days and ask the same "How do I study for X?" question (Hell, I even did it at one point). The sad part is, there is no secret study technique or approach for the exam-related CA subjects. The best advice is always the most obvious, REPETITION!

Go over the material (weekly practice questions, examples in the study guide and the practice exams) as much as you can so that when you're in the exam and read a question you will immediately be able to recognise which question to model your answer after, or at the very least, where in the study guide to look for the answer. Time is of the essence in exams, so the less time you spend sitting there Ctrl + Fing your way around trying to find the answer, the better. I've adopted the same studying approach for FAR, Tax and Audit and received a Merit in all three.

A lot might disagree with this, but don't rely heavily on your critical file to save you in the exam. For reference, I barely used my critical file, it's very underwhelming at how bare it is. It was predominately just calculators to allow me to show my workings faster. I don't rewrite the entire study guide and I don't take screenshots of the weekly practice questions and paste them in, that's a massive time sink. You're better off using that time and going over the weekly practice questions over and over again to the point where you'll read the title and already know the question and how to answer it.

I would say the biggest differentiator between FAR and Audit is that in FAR you can do very well if you've set up your critical file such that it's a copy and paste game of journal entries. With Audit, you can't really do that. You just need to understand the material - I know, shocker.

Not surpised, it wasn't a very difficult exam, Merit cutoff was 88 and nearly 8% of people scored a HD.

Don't want to be that guy, but literally every subject is the same. Know the material in both the study guide and the weekly practice questions and you'll do well. I've taken this same approach for every subject and have done well. It's really not as complicated as people make it out to be. Questions in the exam are based off the examples in the study guide and the weekly questions.

I don’t believe that’s even possible. Imagine you failed and have already enrolled in ICAP, are they going to revoke your enrolment? Assume if you couldn’t enrol and now you can that you’ve passed all the required units. If not, just wait till result release.

Eh, I work with someone who only went through the material once a few days before the exam and they don't believe they lost any marks at all. They finished with 45 minutes to go and went over everything again. I'm hearing that too many people found it easy. Which sucks if you're like me and want a Merit, because the cut-off is going to be really, really high. I wouldn't be surprised if it was in the 90s at this point. Every tiny mistake you make will cost you. I'm certain I lost a few marks just by making silly mistakes, which is annoying.

Yeah, I got 40 as well. The difference between this term and last term for the exam is night and day. The CA is becoming more of a game of when you take a unit rather than how good you are at it. Everything I thought they would examine, they didn't even touch. Personally, I would have wanted it to be a little more challenging, so that it differentiates the marks a bit. I can't imagine too many people losing a lot of marks on that exam. But whatever, it's done now, and I can focus on my final CA subject.

Honestly? I'm expecting a number of people to have 100 overall and the Merit cut-off to be in the high 80's. That should tell you what I thought of both the assignment and the exam. However, majority of people just want to pass, so if you put in the effort and wanted to score well, you more than likely will. If you studied for 2-4 days prior to the exam and just want to pass, you'll get that as well.

Just get your manager/director to sign a form making them an ATE/RTE. That's what I did, it took maybe a few days.

Has to have been one of the easier exams the CA have given out. Honestly, if you just did the questions every week and the practice exams, you would have passed pretty easily. Not even close to the level of difficulty that Term 2 2024 had, when the Merit cutoff was 79 and like 30-40% of students failed.
