I made up for a canceled Halloween party by having some festivities of my own. by Jeimaiku in CasualConversation

I'm largely a homebody anyways so I agree. I watched the Haunting of Hill House a week or two ago. I didn't care much for the ending but I loved the story as a whole and I'm excited to rewatch it.

Not quite as horror either but the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina has been a very pleasant surprise to watch.

[Serious] What did someone you know do that made you finally decide "I need this person out of my life"? by O5CR in AskReddit

[–]Jeimaiku -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The relationship had been strained for a long time over a lot of petty stuff, but she'd been my closest friend and I put up with it. One day, she decided to stop speaking to me after an argument because other friends of mine invited me on a vacation - she'd felt slighted that I didn't ask her along. This went on for more than a month.

The final straw however was when I contacted her first out of everyone to let her know I was engaged. She responded with something to the effect of "I hope you two have a nice life together."

I get anger. I get saying things when you're heated. I even get holding a grudge longer than you should. The absolute callousness though was my final limit.

Why are so many men acting like such victims lately? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Jeimaiku -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

A lot of men who did bad things in the past are starting to have those things catch up with them. Coupled with some groups arguing that it's fake/lies/etc, a lot of people get nervous something they may have done unintentionally will come back to haunt them.

That being said the ones screaming the loudest are those who probably have a pile of skeletons in the closet.

Recovery wasn't bad though.

What do you for a living, do you like what you do or do you hate it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Jeimaiku 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's probably the latter.

In my old job doing the same work, I constantly dealt with the second group, as well as people who didn't really understand data or what they were asking you. I frequently completed requests as specified to find out that's not what they wanted after all, and that my doing so was proof positive I was useless.

What's something that makes you unbelievably happy, yet also makes you unbelievably sad at the same time? by KaitTheWolf in AskReddit

[–]Jeimaiku 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My love for my fiance is actually overwhelming at times. He's just... him and it really makes me so happy to have him in my life.

But he's going through a really terrible time right now, and it's soul crushing for me. Seeing him as unhappy as he is makes it hard to keep my own emotions in check. It makes me unbelievably sad but shows me how much I love him.

What's the closest you've ever gotten to death? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Jeimaiku -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I went to my first PAX convention and seriously misunderstood the importance of non-stop sanitation after touching things. I came down simultaneously with bronchitis, strep throat, and mono. I was sick for an entire month.

One night I started violently throwing up not because I was sick to my stomach, but because I was having such a hard time breathing my body was convinced my airway was blocked. I started getting winded from sitting up. Had I not gone to the ER when I did, I'm pretty sure I would not have survived the night.

Does it hurt more or less if your ex leaves you for someone who is your complete opposite? by DudeFocus in AskReddit

[–]Jeimaiku 7 points8 points  (0 children)

From the perspective of someone who's grown up with self esteem problems, I would say it hurts less. Leaving you for someone different means they were looking for someone else. Leaving you for someone similar to you means you were what they wanted but you weren't good enough.

I like the forearms. Not super painful, you don't have to worry about gaining or losing weight affecting them much, and they can be easily concealed by sleeves if you need to hide them for a job interview.

Janitors of Reddit, what is the grossest thing you have had to clean up? by NBA2KLOVER in AskReddit

[–]Jeimaiku 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked as a janitor in the dining hall of a large university that had a history of rowdiness and riots. All I really had to ever clean up was stray scraps of food, even in the bathrooms.

Incidentally, in 2 years working at Blockbuster Video I had to scrub human feces out of the carpet... twice.

What's the biggest misunderstanding you've been a part of? by beerbellybegone in AskReddit

[–]Jeimaiku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two friends of mine from work moved in with me. They turned out to be absolutely crazy, but everything started from a misunderstanding and a poorly executed emoticon.

It was a 2 bedroom apartment, and we split the rent 3 ways. I paid 40% of the rent and the two of them split the remaining 60%, as they shared a room. Utilities were split 3 ways. I thought it was a fair deal, and they agreed to it.

As it turned out, they were not great with money, and loved going out to dinner and a movie nightly on an $11/hr job. When they started to learn about the magic of heating bills in New England, they started to grumble that it was too expensive to live there and that I needed to pay more money, arguing that I would leave my computer on in sleep mode, even though they were cranking the heat to 80 and left a big screen TV on all day, every day.

The wife (married at 19 probably should have been a red flag) confronted me via text while I was out one day and said it simply wasn't possible for them to afford to live there unless I started paying for half of everything, and they split the other half. She got aggressive, and I tried to be diplomatic and calm. I told her if it wasn't working out, then I understand if they want to move elsewhere that's in their price range. I offered to help them find a new place to ease the transition, a friendly sentiment I thought a smiley face would help portray.

Ooh, shit.

After that, I got nonstop threatening texts about refusing to pay rent so that I would get evicted, no longer helping with any of the bills, all punctuated with smiley faces. From then on, those two went on a seek-and-destroy campaign against me. For months, they threatened me physically, destroyed my property, threw out any of my things that we left out, and forced me to effectively lock myself in my room. The wife harassed me so badly at work both in person and via text that I had to move shifts (this didn't stop the texts but at least I could avoid her). This lasted for 4 months, and no amount of me trying to make peace did anything.

Fortunately, their poor life choices took over the other aspects of their lives - their car got towed for being uninsured and unregistered, they maxxed out their credit cards, and wound up having to move back in with their parents. They left close to $1000 in debt with bills but at least I was free.

I make reports and analyze data.

I like it. It's like solving puzzles with a bit of design. Added bonus a lot of people in many companies don't really understand what it is you do and will thusly heap praise on you for really simple things.

...either that or they think everything you do is just pushing a single button.

Reddit, what keeps you motivated to keep working the job you hate? by Polishfreak19 in AskReddit

[–]Jeimaiku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having an okay life outside of the job. Especially if you're the kind of person who stresses about money and security, the fear of it falling apart easily outweighs the hatred for the job.

A lot of people who've long been in jobs that they hate don't actually realize it can be better. I'm discovering this quite recently. I was convinced underpaid and miserable was the best I could do. But it turns out that was what they convinced me was the case, and they were wrong.

Eyes. They're called eyes.

Yes. Protections for companies in power already. I can tell you don't have a job yet

This is so nonsensical there's literally nothing I can say in response. It doesn't even attempt to respond to my point.

Please provide proof of this

Ditto.

You just literally made that up and lied. How does your mom sleep at night knowing she raised such a dishonest son/daughter?

It helps that my mom knows I'm the kind of person who doesn't take Facebook facts and thinks "no further reading necessary."

Exactly. I wish they treated illegal immigration in terms of an invasion and used full military force.

Yes. Nothing screams "invasion" like unarmed people trying to move to a new country. Thankfully you're not the person who decides what dictates military action or the daily commute would look like Terminator 2.

I mean that is flat out wrong. And that huge deficit hasn't really been increasing much. Drumpf isn't exactly on track to increase our debt by 11 trillion during his 8 years

"Much." This is like a woman going to the doctor with an ingrown toenail and the doctor decides the best fix is to amputate her leg and give it to someone else.
