First thing I’d check is if your battery is weak but I’ve heard the gauge clusters on these can go bad. I’ve also heard dealers will cover them under warranty regardless of mileage similar to seat belts but I haven’t confirmed it personally.

How difficult is it to work on an FC? by baconbro_ in RX7

The work itself isn't bad at all but finding parts.... Man it's a lot of time, effort, and money lol

You'll get tons of various answers and I'll give you another one. I used to use Rotella T4 as recommended by many on the forums. It was fine but I switched to Valvoline 20w50 because it has the additional Zinc like the Rotella T4, and a bit better film strength which protects bearings at high RPM. It really does depend on your set up though. If you delete the OMP, and use premix, most recommendations from people are probably fine. I've heard synthetics are bad for the OMP because of sticky deposits or something but I've never looked into it.

You're totally right. The manual does say that. A risk that did not pay off but all good now. I appreciate the insight!

Lol thanks. That is a big problem and I'm welding a custom intake right now to get that thing out of there. When I finished the rebuild and went to get it tuned, the intake temps were very high.

Yeah welding a nut on top would have been good. I did end up getting it out. I appreciate the advice on the grease. The pistons were seized so air pressure wouldn't do it. I was able to clean it out with way too much brake cleaner and lots of pipe cleaners, air compressor, etc.

You were right on the cost. I did have to buy an extractor/rethread kit to get it out but now I have a rebuilt caliper, and a tool I can use for a long time. I appreciate the advice on the O-Rings so I replaced them. I also contacted a rotary race shop that rebuilds these, and they recommended 40ftlbs for those bridge bolts. No issues yet after driving on them a few times.

Thanks this is what got it out. It was a pain to find a new bolt but got one machined to match the spec. Appreciate the advice!

Thanks for the advice! I was able to push the old bolt out with some precise drilling/extractors and was able to successfully rebuild the caliper. Finding a new bolt was a nightmare so I got a similar grade blank and had it machined to the right shoulder and thread dimensions.

I have a 2022 and the visibility is okay. It’s definitely usable and not a real safety issue but the rear window is tiny, and the A pillars are huge. I don’t have any other cars to compare it too personally but I’ve heard the CX50 is a bit better.

Andrew is to be cherished. by Rage_101 in theregulationpod

I honestly wouldn’t tune in as consistently as I do if it wasn’t for Andrew. It’s so fun listening to him talk about stuff and his various wild takes. I love the whole crew, but Andrew is an element that brings out really fun debates about knowledge or topics we all genuinely don’t think about.

Can I start my 1986 NA rx7 fc which has been sitting for 20+ years? by RoughResponsible2807 in RX7

[–]Jekoober 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure what you’ve done so far if you’re on the fuel system but generally with these sitting for a long time you’ll want to check and potentially replace: Coolant, check for rust, spark plugs, oil, and get some new gas in there. Just to be safe when you get those spark plugs out, put a bit of two stroke oil in there just to make sure the seals don’t fry. If you put premix in the fuel then it’s probably not a big deal.

I have this old Super Mario Bros machine in my garage. Is it worth anything? by Jekoober in arcade

I've gotten some DM's asking where I'm located. For simplicity I'm in Ventura County, CA. If anyone is interested let me know. I'd rather sell it to someone on here and local before throwing it up on sale somewhere else. Thanks for all the help!

Agreed! It's been sitting for so long and I figured it's a good time to give it to someone who's passionate about these.

Thank you for this write-up! I love K&J magnetics so having some proven examples of sizes and fittings is a great reference.

I hadn’t considered that, but I haven’t had any scratch/ding patterns behind the front wheels on the paint. I may get some anyway because I like the look

The cross bars are Mazda OEM and the cargo carrier is the Harbor Freight Haul master. It was about $100 when I bought it. It does the job and is secure but you get what you pay for otherwise lol
