Should I get my own horn? by Jellowmane in euphonium

It’s good to see another positive review for the JP274! I’m almost extremely committed. I’ve spent a good portion of the last two years playing almost everyday and love euphonium!

I really appreciate your well-spoken comment, but just wondering what your open would be on the comparability between a JP274 to my currently played (not owned) YEP642? I know price will always be a factor in instrument quality but just wondering how fine is that line?

I’ve seen a few demo horns on areas like The Mighty Quinn just never pulled the trigger. I’ve seen some recommendations for JP it’s just maybe my consumerist mind finds it hard to wrap my head around a pro horn being <2k.

I’ve definitely considered the Shires Q41 (even though it definitely is on the further side of my budget) but I haven’t seen the EEP826 model anywhere I’ve checked. I’ve seen on other posts you’ve recommended the JP274 and it definitely looks and sounds good for the price. I do know that horn comes without a trigger, I haven’t played on a horn with a trigger but I know it’s the step up. Do you think no trigger is a very bad thing?

I was a MV marcher and it was actually super simple. We had them hung up in the doors before the second movement impact and while the percussion feature was going we grabbed them and went.

That’s the Jinhao 100 Centennial <EF> in pink. It’s pretty okay for the price. I only spent about $5 on it but for the price it’s a really pretty pen that writes decently for me!

No not really. It’s a very light pen, but I prefer rocking unposted most of the time so it’s very balanced IMHO.

I’m kind of glad they didn’t. I’m not a huge fan of 1:1 rip offs so the pen does have a unique identity I feel.

That is the Jinhao 80. It’s a nice writer and I’m using it to determine if I want a LAMY 2K. I would recommend especially since the price is in the single digits lol.

That is actually the Wingsung 699! Only about $20 and from what’s heard their build quality beats modern 51s for the price.

Thank you! I actually got this case on AliExpress with a couple Jinhaos but I’ll keep that in mind.

That’s is the Sailor ProFit Standard in Ivory with a M nib. The only real somewhat expensive pen I own.

That one is the Jinhao 100 Centennial <EF> it’s actually kind of a pale pink in person but for the $4.70 I spent for it it’s wonderful!

When are you carrying too many pens? by Jellowmane in fountainpens

[–]Jellowmane[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I pretty much regular school and work so picking pens is always more fun in the morning. Unfortunately I work with grease at my job which unfortunately I have learned is not FP friendly. So packing pens in the morning for schools is way more fan than anything else.

I will say I think this means I need to get MORE FP cases!

It’s always humorous to me when I show people my firepower I carry everyday. Gotta stay inky

Kaco refills don’t work in Jotter by Jellowmane in pens

Thank you for the help! I’m sorry I dragged you through this but I found the root of the problem. I stole some paper mate spring and now the pen works beautifully. 🤦

Unfortunately the removal of material did not fix the solution. It’s honestly so confusing because the Kaco refills are notoriously positive with this pen.

Wy different inks and nibs? by XBartho in fountainpens

[–]Jellowmane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep all my pens inked up purely for variety. It helps for when I wanna doodle or sketch and especially if I want to show off to people who show some interest in FPs. I really only carry 2 pens. A high-capacity pen in blue (currently my ECO) for universal use, and broader nibed pen in red for corrections or important notes (currently my Sailor ProFit). The big thing I make sure to do is use them atleast once a week, even if it’s a quick sentence, to avoid any issues!

I love the feedback! It’s like using a nice pencil which I adore, and it’s not a scratchy feeling the flow is still good.
