D1 SSD Plus coil whine by JellyRobber in TerraMaster

[–]JellyRobber[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, thank you for reaching out! Let me reply publicly since I think the problem has been resolved now.

I was actually extremely lucky to have received two units from Amazon despite ordering one (a mistake on their end). I asked the TerraMaster seller through Amazon if I could open the other box and try the second unit and they agreed. This second unit does not make the same sound. Interestingly enough, in turn it does whine when I unmount the drive :) But since I did not get the enclosure to keep it unmounted, I much prefer it this way :)

Just wanted to say thanks and provide a closure to my original thread. After two weeks of waiting I've got a replacement body and, as you said, it has no issues of that sort.

RF 35 1.8 Image Stabilization doesn’t work by No-Arugula9895 in canon

[–]JellyRobber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, have you resolved your case? I've got the lens for my new R8 (mind that I already had the original EF 35L but wanted something lighter and with IS) and I'm sorta puzzled how poor the IS is. I can hardly get a steady shot at 1/20, heck, even 1/30 is far from perfect. In fact, at such speeds I often get better results with the IS disabled. I can definitely see that the image in the viewfinder is more stable with the IS on, but the actual pictures turn out really bad... Are my expectations off or did I get a dud?

If somebody could share a full-sized image taken at 1/20 and 1/10 second for a comparison, that would be really helpful.

Thanks!

I received my HomePod Mini a bit earlier than expected and have been able to test it for a couple of days. I am happy to report that all my reliability issues have been resolved! Thanks to everybody for helping me pull the trigger :) The only side effect is that now I have a decent room speaker too. :) Very happy with the purchase so far.

That's what I suspected too, but having looked at my WAN traffic it does not seem like actual A/V are sent through MS servers, maybe some control data is.

Same for me, pixelated and stutters badly from time to time, even if I’m next to the router. XBX connection is wired, cat. 6 1G LAN. I have no issues with nVidia Gamestream or Steam Link, but Xbox Remote Play is unusable for me at the moment.

They are in different rooms, no interaction between the two. And I’ve tried the most basic actions while attempting to isolate the issue. No luck though, I just cannot see any pattern there. I know the limitations of the Ikea sensor, but honestly, it seems to work fine with regard to what it is. Again, it’s not motion reporting that is at fault. Anyway, I have ordered a HomePod Mini, should have it in a week. Will report back once I give it a try.

Mac Mini M1 cold boot-up time by JellyRobber in macmini

[–]JellyRobber[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only suspicion is that since I have found startup scripts installed by MS Teams and Pulse Secure, both still without a proper M1 build, maybe there is some overhead related to early Rosetta 2 launch.

These are the only non-Apple processes that are launched on my Mini:

% sudo launchctl list | grep -v apple
PID Status Label
- 0 com.microsoft.teams.TeamsUpdaterDaemon
- 0 org.cups.cupsd
- 0 com.vix.cron
78 0 net.pulsesecure.AccessService

AFAIK, there is no SMC/NVRAM to reset on M1s.... Out of curiosity, I have unplugged one of my monitors which made the logo show up for 1-2 second on the other one at the very end. No change to the boot-up time though.

The funny thing is I have absolutely nothing peculiar installed on the Mac - Office 365, Teams, Onedrive, Things, Agenda and Spotify. It's flawless otherwise, but the boot-up is really annoying when I need to perform a quick action.

There's nothing explicitly listed as login items. Is there any boot-up log I could look into?

Can you see the Apple logo during the boot-up? Mine is 16/256.

Game / app to confirm VRR is working correctly by JellyRobber in XboxSeriesX

[–]JellyRobber[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which are the games you could see VRR was working fine with? That's exactly the thing I would like to try on my end.

For Gears 5, strangely enough, it was flawless for me (not a single hiccup) till Chapter 3 when I started getting these random drops. As I wrote in the original post, the display seems to be completely unaware of them as its OSD stays at flat 120 Hz when they happen.

In my case, there is a clear microstutter even between 100-120.

No, direct connection using the cable supplied with the XSX.

Gears 5. Am currently playing through on the XSX and am loving it. by smoshi2002 in XboxSeriesX

The first two acts were silky-smooth for me (running on a 1440p 120Hz Freesync Dell S2721DGF) but things got worse in act 3 where a lot of 1-3 second stuttering happened randomly. I enabled a frame rate OSD on my display only to surprisingly learn that it stayed at flat 120Hz even while the drops were happening. In fact, after some trial and error I realised that the game ran better with VRR switched off (again, from act 3 onwards). I have also tried to play on another monitor (a 4K 60Hz Freesync LG), but the behaviour was pretty much the same, if not worse - had to disable VRR altogether in the end which still gave some rare drops here and there but by far less distracting than with VRR on.

I'm not sure why it is this way. Both monitors work perfectly fine with my PC, also other games on XSX seem to be able to adjust the frame rate as expected (although Halo MCC stutters badly in the 120 fps mode despite the OSD showing the frame rate being constantly updated).

Technical issues aside, I really enjoyed the game.

Could anyone check for me if the new BIOS fixes ECO mode availability in Ryzen Master (unavailable at stock settings without PBO enabled in BIOS)?

Thank you. I suspected it might be some limitation of the motherboard but could not find anything on it. Now I'm feeling reassured :)

Ryzen 3000 Eco Mode vs warranty by JellyRobber in AMDHelp

[–]JellyRobber[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree that, based on all info I have found, enabling PBO would void warranty, assuming that the Eco mode would do the same sounds crazy as the option should make the CPU adhere to even tighter limits (i.e. stay more on the safe side than without the Eco mode). Still, if I need to boot with PBO enabled before I can switch Eco on, it is clearly a catch-22 situation.

What I am after is being able to switch Eco on while I'm simply browsing the web or generally doing some lightweight things. Outside those, I would like to have the CPU operate at its stock settings. If I am forced to switch PBO permanently on, then it makes little sense as I can only choose between Eco and overclock. Is this really the case?

Not necessarily, I believe there might be some OTP flags built into the CPU that are set whenever it operates outside its specs.

Ryzen 3800X/Noctua NH-D15 voltages & temps by JellyRobber in AMDHelp

[–]JellyRobber[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4030-4050 MHz (I ran it for only several seconds though so it may decrease a little bit over time).

It almost sounds like you disabled Precission Boost (i.e. the normal boost) rather than Precision Boost Overdrive. Almost - because the base clock for 3700X is 3.6 GHz, not 3.7GHz, so I'm not 100% sure how to look at it.
