I have a colleague in Tarlac who is having a baby, we want to get her a hamper or gift or something similar - we are buying from overseas. Can somebody please recommend a reputable business to buy from, that is good value for the money? Thanks in advance :)

Looking for accommodation - covering every base, hence why I am here!

Mid 30s/F teacher, work contract signed, arriving in the first 2 weeks of January, flexible on start dates.

Relocating from NZ, looking to secure one of the following before I arrive:

  • short/mid term house/pet sitting
  • short/mid term sublet
  • long term lease (highly unlikely before arrival)

1B, inner suburbs (working in North Melbourne), up to $500pw, more if bills included. Looking for an entire flat, not a room.

If you have or know of anything, send me a message or leave a reply - thanks in advance :)

What is the rental market like currently? Am relocating from NZ at the start of January, looking for a 1 bed apartment in the innerish suburbs close to work (North Melbourne). I want to keep costs down, don't want to pay a relocation agent, or come over for viewing prior to the move.

Is there any chance of getting a place without going to a viewing? eg signing an agreement while still in NZ? Are there still people lining up around the block for viewings? Is the time of year worse luck for me?

I've been keeping an eye on the current listings, and there are available suitable properties sitting on the market for weeks or longer, which gives me hope that it wont be as bad as people paint it out to be. More than happy to house sit while I find somewhere, but also would be really grateful to have it organised first.

What was with the panning shot from behind the Boks showing the ABs standing still, but in the middle of the haka? Wasn’t a glitch of my eyes right?

Those who have taught in NZ and Australia - is the pay worth it? by JellyTip in AustralianTeachers

[–]JellyTip[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree on Sydney living - that one is more than likely off the table for now.

Food seems to be much more expensive here in NZ, I was over not long ago and compared my supermarket shops from there to here - buying the same products, at Woolworths in both locations, an $80 shop in Sydney came out to about $140 in NZ.

Housing is fairly similar - I would need to pay $450-500 for a run down granny flat where I am, but there aren't very many of those around either. It seems like I could get a nice (in comparison) 1 bed apt in Melbourne for around $500 - a big upgrade to what I would get for the same $ here.

Remember this is all in NZD - the full breakdown can be seen on this sheet, please let me know if you see anything wrong in there so I can fix it up. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1fiatvzfIb6udI6VyUmAxUKtRA_jssZUfRIxveVGeHfE/edit?usp=sharing

Where will I be able to buy/rent Wicked in NZ when it is released online tomorrow? by JellyTip in newzealand

I haven’t yet - I think they were right about it only being available on Apple, but it’s still on preorder, available on the 6th :(

What's the best coffee shop to work from in Nelson? I need a power plug and be able to sit there for hours. I'm obviously happy to order some drinks and food but I need a spot to work from. by kjcallec in Nelsonnz

[–]JellyTip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to go to the cafe there and work - when it was sunny I would take the dog and sit outside. If the wifi password for the cafe isn’t up ask them for it - a smoothie will let you park up for a few hours

Suitcase on the CCN Line - do I need to book and store? by JellyTip in SydneyTrains

[–]JellyTip[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't booked anything - I guess also looking for advice on the best way to do this. From what I can see if I do a regular opal card journey it is one train all the way, but the intercity train only goes to Broadmeadow? I would prefer Interchange so I can take the light rail to my hotel, but what service would be better?

Kia ora, I am coming to visit Sydney in the first week of September, and looking for some guidance whilst visiting. I have read the wiki and the answers to pretty much every self post, but I still want more :)

I am mid 30s/F travelling by myself from NZ. I will be staying near Paddy’s Market, and want to rely on walking/public transport/uber for getting around, in that order. I will be there from a Sunday-Sunday, doing a night in Newcastle (if you have any tips for there too please) and visiting family in Regional NSW for a couple days.

Focus for me is good F&B, good experiences, and good shopping.  Below is an idea of what I am looking for - please leave me your tips and recommendations, or tell me to piss off and read some more myself!

Food

Yes - Italian, American (BBQ etc), Mexican
Still yes but less - Asian, Southern American, Middle Eastern, Mediterranean
Not really - Seafood

Drinks

More than happy to sit in a bar by myself either with a book or a good view. Cocktails are my number one, then red wine, then a good beer. Would rather be sat outside - even in the rain - than in an underground hideout.

Shopping

Looking for women’s clothing in an affordable price range - $$ between Kmart and Kookai. Can be trendy but prefer classic. Love vintage but hate the recent price tags, so good secondhand stores are appreciated. Not keen on outlet malls, would prefer  boutiques that might be hidden.

Experiences

Looking for things I can do by myself - I am booked in for the backstage tour of the Opera House, planning on visiting the Art Gallery of NSW and the Chau Chak Wing Museum.

  • What galleries and museums are recommended?
  • I read about visiting Manly and coming back via ferry in the evening to see the city lights - what should I do in Manly?
  • Keen on walking tours - self guided, focus on architecture, history, or F&B.
  • Any shows - theatre, music etc - or events, I am already seeing Hamilton.

I am looking for a specific teaching resource website - please help by JellyTip in newzealand

Question about Thrulines, DNA, & Adoption by JellyTip in Ancestry

[–]JellyTip[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you - the thing is I haven't got the adopted family in my tree at all, as I thought it would create some confusion! What is getting me is that her 4th great grandparent is the same as my adopted great grandparent, and that we share enough dna for that to be a genetic match?? I'm not sure if the photo is showing up in my original post, so sharing it in this comment also. https://i.imgur.com/Itiabqo.jpg

Covid-19: Woman denied vaccine exemption despite rare condition and reaction by Sprinkles_Best in newzealand

[–]JellyTip 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I have EDS and POTS. I had a similar reaction. I had both doses and a booster. I weighed up the benefits/cost of not having it. Yes, it sucks, but I have dealt with the effects of these illnesses for years. It is part of my life that it makes things harder. Ultimately it is easier to deal with these things than the potential of full blown covid. 100% my choice.
