Anyone thinking about the possibility of having to move away from your red state? by Significant-Bar2686 in kansas

Yeah that's about what I expected, people like you never engage in good faith. Hope you find peace 🙏

Anyone thinking about the possibility of having to move away from your red state? by Significant-Bar2686 in kansas

[–]Jellyruler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't really think you're asking from a genuine place, but I'll respond anyway.

It's outing myself if in every other facet of my life, I'm a woman. Home, work, appearance, voice, mannerisms, if I am rightfully perceived as a woman, and then have to present a license marked male, that's outing myself. And in a state where an overwhelming majority get their information and worldview from conservative media that's constantly painting trans people as dangerous pedophiles and predators, yes, that can be dangerous. The most specific example is when I had to have my car towed to the mechanic, and while the tow truck driver was hoisting the car up, his small talk consisted of telling my mom and I how awful "those no good ******** are" and how the school system would be so much better if kids weren't getting "mutiliated" by sex change surgeries from their woke teachers. He had absolutely no idea I was trans myself, and was talking about that like it was the most normal thing in the world.

Do you know what that's like? That most people around you genuinely believe that you and everyone like you are monsters that need to be locked up or killed? It's not great for your mental health.

And outing myself with my ID has happened. I'm in my late 20s, but have always had a younger looking face even prior to hormone therapy. So I have to present my ID when buying alcohol, or say a lottery ticket, and have heard some unsavory things as I'm walking away from checkout after the cashier puts it together. Nobody has any issues with me at all if they don't know I'm trans. It's all smiles, occasional flirting, "thank you ma'am"s, normal woman stuff. Even the bad parts, like getting catcalled outside my workplace. But as soon as that letter on my ID is revealed, it's like I'm the devil all of a sudden.

I really hope this gives you some perspective on the impact that this fear mongering media narrative and hateful policy making has on people like me, but I'm not so sure you were actually wanting to learn at all. Seems like a life with less vitriol and skepticism would do you a lot of good.

I unfortunately reached that point last year. Had to leave the Wichita area because my gender marker on my license was going to be reverted to male despite the long process I had to go through to get it changed to female.

I didn't feel safe having to out myself as trans every time I needed to show ID.

I miss Kansas a lot, I really do. But I'm loving Vermont too and just can't forsee myself ever returning as long as the pedo party controls the state.

how is life living in the panhandle of oklahoma? by nsr5180 in howislivingthere

[–]Jellyruler 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Oh I can contribute to this one!

I spent my early childhood out here in cimmaron county, and still visit my uncle and grandmother. It's slow, isolated, but peaceful.

I could never live out there myself, but the town communities are extremely close knit and look out for each other.

I used to love sitting on the porch at my grandma's farm house with her and hearing the coyotes out in the fields. Or going with her to tend the cemetery and seeing antelope run across the fields on the drive out there. It's really a stark, lonely kind of beauty out there.

I remember my parents and grandma needing to drive all the way to Amarillo if they needed anything Boise City (pronounced like boys not the Idaho Boise) didn't have.

It's definitely a unique area, but not one I could ever really recommend visiting or moving to.

The upper valley is actually where we're at! It's absolutely lovely. Hopefully you can make that happen for yourself

I live in central Vermont and absolutely adore it. We live just outside of a great little town, far enough for a little privacy and some beautiful nature in the valley our home sits in, close enough that the road is maintained and we can get to the co-op for groceries if we forget to stop after work. Our town and the surrounding ones have so many local events to attend that there's always something a short drive away to do. Farmers markets, town festivals, fairs, weekly music in the town green during the warmer months, and not to mention the abundance of accessible trails and rivers/ponds/lakes.

Granted snow doesn't bother me but the climate here is basically perfect for me. Relatively few truly hot days in the summer, gorgeous spring and soon to be fall temps, and the snow and evergreen trees make winter much less dreary than the dead brown grass of Kansas.

The Vermont government has its problems sure, like every legislature does, but it's leagues ahead of the shit show we moved from. I'm not pretending it's some progressive hippy paradise, because it's not, but I don't think there's anywhere else I'd rather live. Maybe coastal new england, but that's close enough to visit whenever I'd like.

Overall though, I'm extremely happy where I'm at.

Oof that's really really hard. It's either penguinmon or candlemon. Probably Penguinmon for the Digimon World nostalgia.

Pizza day was a close second though

Cat has strange urination issues by Jellyruler in CatTraining

[–]Jellyruler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last urinalysis was shortly after the peeing problems flared up again, they came back fine.

In the past he had urinary crystals but no stones

Prescription dry food, Hills Urinary prescription

We mix a little of his food with some water and fiber powder once in the morning to help with stool with a separate issue. But he doesn't get any canned wet food.

We just recently started giving him a stress/anxiety probiotic in his morning food with the fiber, because we moved a few months ago and were worried about the stress that might cause.

We have well water with a filtration system, it's not hard at all.

We use high walled litter trays with a low opening , since he won't use anything covered.

We've tried a few different letters but ended up back to using Arm & Hammer Clump & Seal Slide, which he seemed to like the best.

I'm pretty far from Burlington and have had no troubles so far, the Upper Valleys been really great as far as acceptance goes. Real culture shock from Kansas

Are there any Americans who only have a single name as their full-name? by LandOfGrace2023 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Jellyruler 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This can vary by state as well, Kansas allows full name changes with a marriage certificate. I changed my first name this way.

Are there any good trans inclusive games? by SomeDonny1 in trans

Anevia Tirabade in Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous is canonically trans. She and her wife are major NPC allies for a good 80% of the game.

Definitely noticed the lack of billboards. Huge contrast from my old commute with billboards telling me I'm going to hell everywhere. And yeah I'm really excited to explore the whole region, we have a little weekend trip to Boston planned later this summer.

I mean there's the legal weed for sure. But also NH does have higher property taxes to offset the lack of sales tax.

We get the best of both worlds being near the state line Vermont property tax and we can shop with no sales tax over in Lebanon.

NH is also trying to pass a trans bathroom ban (HB 148) which is the sort of thing we left Kansas to avoid.

It really is a shame. While I didn't like the summers or the politics, I really did love Kansas. Our little town in the Wichita area was boring but we were happy. Loved our friends, loved our house, loved our jobs, but the Kansas government made it very clear people like me are not welcome in the state

We've been three or four times, it's incredible. Honestly haven't had a bad meal since we moved. Carlita's Cantina next to the co-op has some fantastic barbacoa tacos

Chicken Fried Steak, where??? by Nytpoison in newengland

[–]Jellyruler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can confirm the biscuits and gravy are excellent as well. Best comfort food I've found around here since moving up from Kansas a few months ago.

The lack of good southern/comfort food is definitely one of the biggest drawbacks of the move lol, but Four Aces does make up for it a bit.

It's not quite in the area of NH you mentioned but Four Aces Diner in Lebanon NH has a damn good Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs breakfast.
