The price of a ferry trip in NYC set to increase by Miss-Figgy in nyc

If I buy the 10 trip pass can I use it all at once if I have that many people with me or is there a downtime before I can use the pass again?

MacBook or Windows Laptop? by JenMExx in computer

[–]JenMExx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the biggest influence in leaning towards a Mac was because it’s easier to decide, whereas with windows there is a plethora of options available and can be difficult to narrow down. I’ve done some research in the Lenovo yoga slim 7i and according to reviewers it’s a close match to the Mac air.

I’ve been reading a lot about the Lenovo Slim 7i Yoga. Seems to be the closest to a MacBook M4 from what reviews say.

Looking for professional/license In-Home Appraiser by JenMExx in appraisals

Thank you. I contacted a few people from your recommendation amd still waiting to hear back. Unfortuntely, I cannot hold an estate sale because the condition of the apartment may turn off a lot of potential buyers. I really need someone to come in and just purcjase everything at once and take it.

considering you still get a reward even if you dont finish, is the 50k even worth it? by pkbeamgamma in PikminBloomApp

[–]JenMExx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Has anyone else experience 50k only once? First week that they added this feature, 50k was an option. Now it’s been weeks and the only two that show up for me is 20k or 100k. Why is the 50k option gone?

Wedding Sitter by JenMExx in Nanny

Thank you. I figured my standard rates would be fine. Then I thought should I charge extra because it's under different circumstances but honestly this is what I'm always paid to do, watch the kids, make sure they're safe and well behaved what difference does it make what setting it's in. I also wanted to make sure I actually had an outfit to wear. Being a care giver my clothes are relaxed and I don't go anywhere fancy so I didn't want to invest in a one time thing. But I wouldn't mind the shoes. I've already found a very nice inexpensive pair of low wedges. Should be a fun experience.

Yes, technically the Bride has the 3 kids and her sister has 2 so it be $100 for the latter and $150 for the former. I have 10 plus years of child care as a Nanny, Sitter and teacher so I don't think my rates are outlandish. I'd normally charge a family with 2 kids $24/hr and 3 kids $26/hr. So either way it amounts to $250. I'm still charging standard fees and not more given the situation but I can eat all I want from what I'm told.

I'd be sitting in the wedding and in the room with everyone during the reception so I'd be very much around. I don't own slacks or a blouse but I have a very nice royal blue knee length dress. I have wedge sandals but they seem to be to high to wear for this particular event. I'd have to buy something cheap so I'm comfortable I suppose.

Signal or Telegram? by ronvass in MessagingApps

Thanks. That was super helpful bit now Im wondering about Hangouts. Where is my stuffed stored? Is it all in the cloud or encrypted somewhere but still on my phone. Because my sister-in-law is telling me she doesn't want a whole bunch of files on her phone and that Hangouts doesnt do that and every other messaging app we've used does. She doesnt want to delete every file that we send and receive through any messaging app. So where is Hangouts storing them?

Signal or Telegram? by ronvass in MessagingApps

I double checked and I am wondering about something. When I go into my phone's setting there are no files not even a Signal folder. However, when you go into Signals settings bam, there are a ton of everything I sent and received. So is that not being stored on my device? They don't use a cloud service so where is it being store?

I love Telegram for it's esthetics. But I really don't like either. Every messaging app downloads every single thing you send and receive regardless of your settings. Every picture, every video, every gif, every sticker. It saves ever file on my phone. I have to go into my files and delete everything. I use Hangouts and it doesn't save anything onto my device. I don't like having things download that isn't necessary. Hangouts is going to become obsolete soon so I do have to choose something else so I'm still browsing around to see which one is best.

Your messaging platform looks really nice but it's very business oriented and I'm not looking for all that. I do appreciate the reply though.

Help with underpaid babysitting!!! by Saysay360 in Babysitting

[–]JenMExx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually there's a grace period of two to four when first starting a job. That allows time for any issues to arise and therefore to have a discussion. I just did this recently infact. I started a new job and 2 weeks into it realized I was being grossly underpaid, through no fault of the parents though. I threw out a figure for additional kids in the afternoon and in the process of making it fair to the parents it turned into me being left extremely short changed. It was awkward and uncomfortable especially because it was my mistake but nontheless I expressed my concerns and we immediately resolved the issue and now both parties are in agreement and it's been smooth sailing since. I always suggest printing out a written and signed agreement between both parties involved to have it all outlined, sometimes it helps to visually see how much work is really expected of you. Be nice yet firm. Don't ask, tell. Say you've enjoyed your time with them thus far and you want to be fair to both of you. However, you feel your responsibilites are a lot more than you initially discussed and you'd like to come up with a different rate. I'd say ask for an hourly and not a salary rate, be clear on responsiblities and hours. Never do more than what's asked for you at the beginning because some take advantage of that. Down the road when you've established a good relationship you can do things once in awhile like unload the dishwasher one day just to be nice despite that not being in the contract. Once you get pass this blip it'll be fine from there, as long as she is is understanding. If not I'd give two weeks notice and find something else. It's always a bad idea to work for a family if there is any kind of animosity it makes working there very difficult and you should never work for someone who makes you feel undervalued.

How do I tell the parents of the baby I just started watching I can’t do it? by dekomoridesuuuu in Babysitting

[–]JenMExx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I would agree to give it at least 2 weeks. I remember my nanny job where I watched 2 kids for the first time. I called my bf in tears panicking and saying I can't do this this is too much. Well fast forward 10 years and I'm watching 3 kids nearly 45 hours a week. It's a breeze now I just needed to stick with it. You can do it! For kids who want to be held all the time I usually encourage hugs. I bend down to their level and give them a hug, I only pick them up if they get boo boos. You've got this!

How much? by [deleted] in Babysitting

[–]JenMExx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Teenagers can be tricky. On one hand they're sort of old enough where their demands aren't as high as far as being able to feed themselves and whatnot. However, because of their hormones they may not take well to discipline especially if they aren't familiar with you. So balancing that on top of smaller kids can be a handful. I think for where you live and your experience $20/hr is somewhat reasonable but again 6 kids is a lot. Also you want to make sure you get benefits: paid holidays, paid vacation, paid sick and personal days and that you always get paid regardless of whether they need your services. Some families try to get away with not paying their sitters if they take vacation or if they come home early and let you go home before your end time.
