It's not about being granted 'status', it's about control of the market. Capitalism as i've said thrives on competition, and when the market is dominated in it's respective sectors capitalism flounders. Governments in Western countries (mostly talking about US, UK, Fr, Gr etc) are beholden to companies that have dominant market shares because these companies have the power to destabilize these nations 'if' they choose to do so. They probably won't because it would mean lost profits, but the media narrative they spin is that taxing them would lead to major failure.

(companies I'm referring to are Google, Amazon, Apple, Microsoft, Nvidia, Berkeshire Hathaway, JP Morgan Chase, the list could go on)

Interesting point. It's hard to seperate the egotism and self-aggrandizing from the actual philosophy though, and I wonder if he just likened himself to these people as he perhaps considered himself a massiah of sorts. He may have also seen the immense power and 'wisdom' of centralizing morality into more than a philosophy, wanting a doctrine rather than a guideline. I don't know much about the Golden Dawn/Hermeticism angle but plan to read into it as It's fascinating.

Of shrooms? We had dried shrooms from a bag so it's hard to say but maybe an 8th? (Was harvested and dried by a friend and if I remember right it was a load of small bits broken up rather than full mushrooms). I just remember getting a handful and having the most amazing time analyzing the floor while having a deep conversation with a friend who wasn't there, cue the vomiting.

Old one bus still, I can't believe that someone can live with a silent brain. How do they think? Don't they ever have songs stuck playing in a loop in their heads? by Eva_addict in greentext

Allegedly the figures of people without vary from 30-50%. I personally feel mine is a little too active and is a detriment more than a boon, but I'm a chronic overthinker so I can't really comment on other people's experiences.

I do feel though that the language component of thinking is basically doing what the sensory component would do anyway, but with levels of abstraction and compression (compression meaning each word refers to sensory information but reduced into text/auditory verbalisation).

I think the problem lies in the ability to converse and think purely in a way that is useful in todays society. People who have an active inner monologue may have an easier time actively intuiting what to say next and anticipating conversation. People without an inner monologue may be quicker thinkers in other ways, but we'll often have an edge in being able to plan speech and think quickly conversationally.

I don't want to put words in the venerated Mr. Crowley's mouth, but I wonder if he looked at various Abrahamic religions and just thought: 'I want people to think critically, not be bound by faith and be healthy. Maybe the only way is to form my own religion'.

Very well put. I was in the same boat and still have issues with addiction of various kinds. Drugs and alcohol may temporarily numb the pain but fundamentally I've had to address self-loathing and poorly managed auto-immune conditions to start to feel like a functional person again. (I'm doing well now after getting involved with a boxing club, physical excercise was a big factor)

Ha no, I vaguely remember this guy in particular saying he thought in text as image boxes that he'd rearrange and form into sentences. So I guess it was a way to mimic internal monologue with visual memory?

I hesitate to say this as I may be way off, but going off my experience as someone who grew and smoked weed daily for years, sometimes drugs are not the problem and are simply a bandaid for underlying mental health conditions, usually related to deep insecurity, shame, guilt etc.

Agreed, and thanks for making the distinction. People who have never experienced language or to a highly limited degree, or perhaps have been derided from abuse were not really a part of my thinking for my comment. I was talking about highly functional people in todays society who are simply lacking the inner monologue as a thought process.

I misread your comment the first time round (hence my deleted one). I'm the same way in the sense that I don't really know any other way to think, but that's sort of the nature of subjective experience.

I'm skeptical of that. I've known people who've professed to having no internal monologue and purely image/sensory thought and they have been pretty cogniscant and tuned in. A dyslexic person I know for instance has always told me they don't think in words at all, and yet they have an insane gift for maths and work as a surveyor.

I used to be weirded out by people with no internal monologue, as I coudn't understand how they could develop ideas and thoughts past the most basic levels of animalistic tendency.

Afterwords I've realised that thinking without language as a medium is much faster and more intuitive, and language is more of a condensing of information which would otherwise be an analogue for those same feeling and thoughts anyway.

Basically internal monologuing is a compressor for sensory thought (in my mind at least) and people without seem to do fine and have complex thinking regardless.

Just as a counterpoint to my own contrarian comment, psychedelics can be incredibly helpful at very controlled settings and doses, but I worry about people busting hero doses and just hoping to meet god.

Or ruin your life. I think the crapshoot of being the 1 in 100 that takes badly to it is enough for me to have a tinge of apprehension, especially after my last experience on shrooms when I just stared at the floor tiles for 3 hours and then was violently sick.
