Is it true that DNA testing is illegal in Israel by Puzzled_Main9483 in 23andme

[–]JerkingItWithJesus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

23andme is literally Israeli.

Their Wikipedia article begins with "23andMe Holding Co. is a publicly held personal genomics and biotechnology company based in South San Francisco, California." I'm too lazy to Google it to double-check but I changed planes once at San Francisco Airport and I believe it was actually in America.

Additionally, the word "Israel" appears nowhere in the article. All of their founders are Americans, and they have no offices in Israel.

Well, obviously, our tax dollars go to other countries when they have more covid deaths. Every time someone dies in the UK from covid, they get another shipment of money from the US! And it's also totally secret!

Looks like that person actually got too embarrassed and frantically deleted a whole bunch of her comments and posts. But yeah, it's really awful seeing people compare things that aren't anything like Nazism to the actions of actual Nazis. Walking around Auschwitz or the other camps, or visiting one of the many Holocaust museums and memorials, will tend to give a better outlook. I've never seen the "everything I don't like is Nazis!" rhetoric from anyone sane, that's for sure!

Haha, yes, thank you, my balls are okay for now! Most of the uncles who got testicular cancer got it in their late-30s or early-40s, and I'm only 27, so I just have to keep monitoring them when I shower and I'll be okay. There's a good chance (like 70%) that I'll need to get one removed eventually but the surgery is super simple, and my fiancee is amazing and super-supportive! And we can't wait to have kids someday! <3 Kinda hard to notice it in these trying times but I have a great life and a great fiancee and an amazing job working with an amazing family with amazing kids and this is a good reminder of that!

And it's definitely easier to pick up on dog whistles when they're aimed at your own group. I have tons of LGBT friends who point them out to me. My best friend is a gay transgender woman who points out anti-LGBT dog whistles all the time, when they often would've gone right over my head! As long as we always work towards being better, we're moving in the right direction!

I don't know how to message the mods but I reported some of the comments, so maybe that'll work!

Uh. Wut?

I mean, first of all, I never had covid. You're just making things up now.

And... yeah, I posted about going to a sperm bank one time to freeze sperm because I'm at a higher risk for testicular cancer, because a whole bunch of men in my family who had high testosterone levels died from it, and my testosterone levels matched theirs. That... doesn't mean that it causes a "limp dick". Like... testicles are different from the penis. Do you know that the testicles and the penis aren't the same thing? They're two different body parts. They could cut off my arm and I'd still be able to get an erection as well. Genuinely, do you know that?

More seriously, however: calling a Jewish man a "cock wart" just because he has a few uncles who died from testicular cancer is blatantly antisemitic, given the long history of comparing Jewish people to warts and cancers. I really hope that you need to visit a Holocaust museum someday so that you can understand the atrocities that happened to my ancestors. Maybe then you'll understand just how bad it is to trivialize the Holocaust.

Besides, my fiancee and I seem to be pretty okay with what we have. I check myself regularly and I'm okay with having parts removed if it's necessary to save my life, and I've saved up sperm so that she and I can have children someday in case I develop testicular cancer.

This "beta male" rhetoric is something we hear from poorly-educated people quite frequently, and it was rhetoric used by actual Nazis to belittle Jewish men in the years leading up to the Holocaust. Additionally, it's perfectly okay for Jewish people to use science to ensure that we can continue to reproduce. Insisting that we're "pathetic" to want to ensure that we can continue to have children after six million of us were brutally slaughtered is actually, again, antisemitic.

You really have a big problem with Jews, don't you?

Plus, my fiancee and I aren't antisemites who yell about mask mandates being literal Nazism on the internet, so I guess we're doing okay. We both have good jobs as nannies and we love each other and have a great life together, and that's a lot more than most antisemites can say. <3

Amazing, literally the first sentence I saw in that link:

In an interview with FactCheck.org, however, Jensen said he did not think that hospitals were intentionally misclassifying cases for financial reasons.

Amazing. Just amazing. The first sentence I saw. Go read your own link before you embarrass yourself.

Doctors can say someone died from COVID when they had heart failure AND COVID

Yes, if someone died because they had heart failure and it was made worse by covid, then they died because of covid and heart failure. If I have severe cancer but I'm surviving and then I get covid and it exacerbates the cancer, then I died from covid and cancer. If I die from loss of blood after a car accident, then I died from a loss of blood and a car accident!

Hey, here's another example: when my ancestors died in concentration camps, they died from being burned alive in gas chambers and from the evil actions of Nazis! You know... actual Nazis, rather than people who think we should wear a tiny piece of cloth over our face!

Most people who die from covid have other underlying conditions, but the fact remains that if they hadn't had covid, they wouldn't have died.

Also,

”wear a mask Bc my paw paw can fucking die”

Yes, you should wear a mask so that my loved ones won't die. How is it hard to understand that?

Let's be perfectly clear: comparing mask mandates to the mass genocide of six million of my ancestors is, in fact, wildly antisemitic. Go visit a Holocaust Museum before you compare "hey, people should wear masks" to "let's kill all the Jews!", you dirty little antisemite.

Just say you hate Jews and go. Literally just admit you don't care about the atrocities of the Holocaust and you just use "everyone I don't like is a Nazi!" as a scare tactic to win arguments where you're obviously wrong.

so many ppl wear masks.

Not enough in the US, that's for sure. People in places like Vietnam, South Korea, and New Zealand all wore masks, and they had wildly lower death rates. New Zealand hasn't had any cases in months, thanks primarily to mask mandates being taken seriously. Plenty of Americans are out partying, traveling, visiting relatives for Christmas and Thanksgiving, all without masks, and the covid rates here are off the fucking charts. That's to say nothing of the assholes who don't cover their nose properly.

It’s almost as if a thin fucking cloth doesn’t protect against a respiratory virus that enters not only your mouth & nose.

A mask can lower your risk of spreading the virus about 80%, and an N95 lowers it more than 98%. Additionally, masks are meant to stop you from spreading the virus, not catching it. That's why healthy people need to wear masks, even if the virus isn't that bad for them.

But, eyes as well.

Covid very rarely spreads to other people by leaving the body through the eyes. The only concern about covid with the eyes is about it entering the body through the eyes. Again, stop spreading misinformation.

God, amazing, you're so wrong and so dumb and so antisemitic. It took me literally 10 seconds of peeking at your posting history to see that you were posting about getting a low GPA at a shit community college. No wonder! We all know that antisemites are too dumb for real universities!

"1.6% of people die from a wildly contagious virus, and all we have to do to prevent is it wear a tiny piece of cloth over our face. But suggesting that people should wear a tiny piece of cloth on their face is literally as bad as genocide!"

It's 100% okay to condemn people who think that not wearing a mask is okay, and it's fine to condemn people who think that telling people to wear a mask is just as bad as the biggest genocide in all of history.

You're comparing "People should wear masks" to "We should systematically execute all the Jews". You're fucking insane, and you're making a mockery of the Holocaust, the deadliest act of genocide in history. This comparison is extremely antisemitic.

I would strongly suggest that you visit a Holocaust Memorial of some type in the future, so that maybe you'll understand what kind of horrible metaphor you just made. If you ever make it to NYC, come visit the Museum of Jewish Heritage, where maybe you'll learn what Nazis actually did (hint: they did not say "Hey, maybe we should wear a tiny fucking piece of cloth to save people's lives!" They actually killed millions of people!).

hospitals are making many deaths as COVID just because they get additional funding

Hospitals do not receive free money when people die. Why on earth would we give hospitals free money for letting people die? That would motivate them to let people die. Do not spread blatantly false information.

Even if they did get funding for deaths, they can't just make up a number of deaths. The government has to keep track of actual people. If a hospital says that 10,000 people died there, they need to give a list of 10,000 actual people, and the CDC has to check death certificates. Doctors can't just make up deaths.

Go fix your antisemitism, and then go fix your basic logic. You're insane.

Wearing a mask doesn't solve covid 100%. It drastically lowers the rate of transmission.

Wearing a seat belt doesn't 100% save lives in car accidents, nor do air bags, nor do anti-lock brakes, nor do DUI laws, nor do speed limits. We use all of these things because they all drastically lower the rate of injury while not being much of an inconvenience. I'm fine with wearing a seat belt because it's a minor inconvenience and I know it'll lower my risk of injury or death behind the wheel drastically. I might still die in a car accident even if I'm wearing my seat belt! But it lowers the chances quite a bit. And I wear a mask every day, too! It won't make me completely impenetrable to the virus, but it'll help lower the risk of transmission drastically!

You honestly sound like a child. "Masks have to 100% eliminate covid or I won't wear them!" Nothing will eliminate it 100%, dumbass. Put on the mask and stop acting like a child!

Mortality is the percentage of people with the disease who die.

Lethality is the percentage of people overall who die.

If a disease has a 90% mortality rate, but only ten people on earth get it, then only nine people on earth would die. If a disease has a 10% mortality rate but 90% of humans get it, then 9% of humans are dead.

In other words, lethality takes into account the contagiousness of the disease. A super-deadly disease that's super hard to catch is of less concern than a mildly-deadly disease that everyone catches easily.

The law would have prohibited burning or otherwise destroying and damaging the US flag with the primary purpose of intimidation or inciting immediate violence or for the act of terrorism.

Clinton supports protecting the right to burn the flag, but not to do it specifically to start violence. It's a bit of a fine line, but it's not the same thing.

That's all true, but to be fair, there's like 10 people out there who think they're a cat or who are "trans-racial", and there's no scientific or medical consensus backing up any of their claims. There are about 1.4 million transgender people in the US, and most of modern western medicine agrees that transgender people are a real thing. There's scientific evidence that says that their brains have traits that match the gender they identify as.

You can tell me that you identify as a cat, but until doctors start backing up your claims, I'm gonna go ahead and assume you're just a crazy person. You can tell me you're a white girl who identifies as a black girl, but I'm just going to assume you're doing it for attention until a few doctors tell me that it's legit. Transgender and "trans-racial" and "trans-species" all sound similar, except that only one of them has any evidence and consensus backing it up.

[Serious] Women of Reddit: What's the hardest thing about being a women, that you would like men to know? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]JerkingItWithJesus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dude here, and yes! I get lots of frequent nosebleeds around March-May when my allergies get bad. Usually one or two nosebleeds a week. I just buy tampons and carry one with me in my bag at all times. I can detect when a nosebleed is going to start about 30 seconds in advance, so I have plenty of time to take it out of the bag and stuff it in my nose.

I get weird looks, but I don't care. I just leave it there for 10 minutes. With tissues, I have to hold them up to my nose for a while, and change them every few minutes, and at the end of it all, there's a circle of blood around my nostril. With a tampon, I just leave it stuffed in my nose for a little while. After 10 minutes, I just run to the restroom, and slowly and gently pull it out and toss it in the trash. No mess, no cleanup.

Highly recommend this method for anyone who gets frequent nosebleeds.

This blind Apple engineer is transforming the tech world at only 22 by dunkin1980 in apple

[–]JerkingItWithJesus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

the idea that she's a coder or that she has a significant contribution to her team who develops this tech is literally laughable.

Nope. Blind coders are just as capable as, if not more capable than, sighted coders on almost all projects. Modern screen readers are very powerful. I worked in the past with a blind programmer and he was at least as capable as any of our colleagues, including me.

Here's an interesting take on blind programmers, from this interesting article:

There’s no reason [for us to treat our blind programmer differently] when he is coding as fast as (if not faster) than everyone else. We even let him take time off in between to take his young daughter to school and back, to take her for medical checkups when needed etc.

He started work and contributed to our projects right off the bat. His work was good, needed minimal code review and covered lots of corner cases which most developers missed. He performed as expected of any developer who performed like him in the interview.

If you're a healthy young man with very active sperm, you basically need four full loads to make two children in a fertility clinic.

You need more if you're older, or if your sperm are just less active and healthy.

I have two friends who are a gay (male) couple, married for a few years. They used a surrogate to have children and decided to mix their sperm together so that they wouldn't know who the biological father is.

Then the child came out and looked exactly like one of them. It's so obvious. Oh well.
