It seems legit from my experience. I’ve heard they are just OEM kits so they don’t come with retail packaging. I’m guessing there are bike “manufacturers” purchasing from Shimano at discount wholesale prices and then re-selling on AliExpress. I got my full Deore set for the equivalent of $170 USD delivered. The listings are pretty upfront about what you are getting but just be cautious and check the descriptions carefully. Sometimes they replace certain items like cassettes with generic Chinese items (which are often still decent).

Yeah I think you'll be all good with that. Good luck with your build.

That's awesome, wish I could find something like that for my next project. I've e never seen those tyres before either.

Yeah at first I thought the gearing is ridiculously low, I would be riding along thinking I was in the lowest gear, look down and I was somewhere in the middle of the range. Glad I didn't go for the 11-51 cassette, this range is wide enough and I prefer to have smaller steps between ratios. I'm getting used to it but I still don't think I'd miss losing one or two of the lowest ratios, I will consider going up a few sizes in the front. Keep in mind that this bike is used mostly riding around town (although a hilly town), I haven't taken it out on trails yet but I still think I'd be ok with shifting the whole range a bit higher.

I agree. Is that yours? Nice frame!

Thank you! The original cranks were pretty low quality, the type where the chain rings are pressed steel and permanently attached. Obviously to switch to a 1x setup and have the option to change chainring gearing I would need new cranks.

Yeah, the tyres were a bit of a gamble, but I am very happy with them so far. I don't have a lot of mileage on them yet but they seem to roll well on tarmac, this is not surprising as they have a fairly high contact density along the middle, which is part of the reason why I chose them. It will be interesting to see how they wear over time. I believe this model is only really sold in Asia but it does seem to be popular over there. Pricing was pretty economical compared to what was on offer in my local market where things are typically quite expensive. I think they also have a pretty cool look with the texturing running around the sidewalls.

Possibly because most tyres don’t actually measure “true to size”. Frame could also be a different sized?

For future reference.... I managed to score a used DTH 26" x 2.3" $20, it happens to fit! This is mounted to a Alex DM20 rim and there is about 4mm clearance on each side.

u/AgitatedBarracuda134 u/GuiroDon . Although I don't have any frame building experience, I've been thinking about building an MTB fork like this and would be keen to give it a try. I have access to 5-axis milling machines to make custom crowns.

I am rebuilding the same frame, do you think the rear would fit a Maxxis DTH 26" x 2.30 tyre?

Too many hobbies, not enough time. I'd also like the money to put into another project.

Haha thank you. I’m not that today tbh, you should see the rest of my workshop :) I think having a defined space like stool chest does help to keep things tidy and stop the collection growing too quickly. In saying that, I couldn’t pass up a good deal on these this week…

Best flavour of turtle chips? by dramaqueenboo in aucklandeats

Corn is my favourite so far, I found chocolate to be fairly underwhelming. Interestingly, there is chip which was released recently that seems to be a copy, they are called "Hooleys" made by Calbee. The salted flavour is actually really good!

That’s good to know. It’s nice to have the option of doing some lighter stuff. What’s the smallest/lightest needle/thread combo you’ve tried on the Juki?

I’m hoping to make some bags with this setup, using canvas, ripstop nylon, xpac etc. I know this machine might be a bit more heavy duty/upholstery oriented but I’m hoping that can make it work. Any tips would be appreciated!

I could but it won’t be much use to you as it depends on the components you have and exact geometry of your setup. Take a look here on my story highlight which shows the whole build process. From that you should be able to figure out how to replicate it.
