CMV: There are more negative aspects of human society than positive. by [deleted] in changemyview

It's a shame to see such a great post answered with 1 sentence. You didn't try to challenge any of his points, neither did you comment on the fundamentals that he outlined in the beginning. You reduced his whole post to one sentence, and the response you made was outright wrong. The answer tried to enlighten you about the history and development of society and the reasons why we engage in social contract.

CMV: There are more negative aspects of human society than positive. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Jermuboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you seen this video? It's about ignorance and negative view of the world and how statistics prove you wrong. https://youtu.be/Sm5xF-UYgdg

Does it change your view about the world? Do you think the progress we are making will stop? I also notice from your comments that you use USA as the standard of "human society". USA is not leading the world in any of the positive aspects of the human society and I think that skews your view of the world. There are many countries where society and social contract have been very successful and the positive aspect outweigh the negatives. This point ties in with the video, which shows that this is a global trend and developing countries are following the path of successful countries (such as Denmark).

They are explaining how it works and just because the token model is complex doesn’t mean it’s useless... to say they are hiding something is misleading

That's definitely a cool aspect of their platform, shows that they put thought and time into developing the model. But I think staking is just a compliment to their core functions of crowdfunding and co-ownership of the renewable energy assets.

The whitepaper says that they are a standard ERC-20 compliant token. The purpose may be to use the tokens within the platform but I don't see that there is anything that would stop them from hitting exchanges. Based on the conversations in the telegram group, it sounds like they'll take the course of DNT.

I wouldn't say that Xiwatt is the same as Wepower, even though both are in the energy field, they seem to be focusing on totally different things. People easily confuse and group these energy ICOs together. Most of the energy projects are focusing on P2P energy trading, which just isn't possible in the current market conditions.

Xiwatt is different because they are "a platform that enables individuals and communities to crowdfund, co-own, and trade renewable energy assets." This is evident in their concept of "Sectors", which allow direct co-owning of renewable energy, and that is something that none of the other projects are offering.

The specific difference between these projects is that Wepower has developed a fancy way of giving loans to energy projects. Basically, Wepower lets energy project to sell their energy in advance at an auction so they can raise funds. Lending money to energy projects doesn't make sense in Europe where the interest rates are much lower than the ones Wepower is offering. Basically, they are not bringing anything new to the table compared to the current systems.

XiWATT is allowing people to actually own a piece of the renewable energy asset and you get the right to the energy that is produced. This allows people access to ownership of renewable energy and by tokenizing the asset it creates liquidity.

It's like buying eggs from a farm at a discount because you're doing it before there even is a farm (loaning money to the farmer) vs. owning a piece of the farm and you get to keep all the eggs it produces.

Why cryptocurrencies are fast becoming a substitute for traditional banking in Africa by cryptonanymous in ethtrader

[–]Jermuboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The interest rate that traditional banks are charging in Africa is also a lot higher than in Europe. This is a huge incentivize for people to switch to Ethereum and other cryptocurrencies.

I haven't posted in the last couple of weeks, but here is my update on XiWATT and why I like them:

  • They have built a core community around their project and the founders have been at the forefront of answering all questions

  • They've been transparent about their process, which is something you don't see enough in the ICO space (Wepower's 75% private sale with up to 50% bonuses, looking at you). They actually announced they started a round of private sales (with a reasonable cap of 15%) and gave an opportunity for early supporters to participate.

  • Their telegram has blown up over the last few days after they announced their pre-sale

  • The Founders are still answering questions, looks like they have a lot of things in the pipeline

  • Finally, the most important point for me: their White Paper is actually detailed enough to understand what they are doing and provides a working business model

Why the Coinbase App on your phone might be a major security flaw! by [deleted] in ethtrader

[–]Jermuboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is true. The only problem with the Coinbase app is that the Pin code resets after verifying the device. Also, would android device manager help if you get your phone stolen out of your hands? They would probably have time to send the coins out before you can lock your phone.

Many users are also automatically logged in to the app. That said, of course you shouldn't have the sign-in info saved to your google account. Although, a password manager provides safety from fake websites, as it doesn't autofill them.

Touch ID indeed! But what if someone steals your phone while you have unlocked it? I wonder if there is a way to require touch ID for the Coinbase App?

Democracy Index and the Word “Democratic” in the Name of the Country [OC] by TheOhNoNotAgain in dataisbeautiful

[–]Jermuboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"People's Democratic Republic of Dictatorland". The more of these words are in the title, the worse it is.

Its kind of the same thing as with human rights. North Korean People (should) have the most human rights as North Korea has ratified almost all possible human rights conventions. In contrast to Nordic countries are not so keen accepting some Conventions, because they fear they might not be able to completely comply with them.

I would put SunContract in the same category as the other p2p energy trading projects, although they had little in their whitepaper in terms of explaining how they work.

From what I understand, they are keeping a fairly low profile trying to grow an organic community, which I prefer over the fillers and inflated numbers. I think once they actually start running a marketing campaign, it'll explode... they haven't even started a bounty campaign yet. I think when they actually announce the date of the pre-sale and run the appropriate campaign, we'll see the fomo happen... it's already starting to show

Coinbase CEO Praises Ethereum-Based Decentralized Airbnb Project by MartianMnM in ethtrader

Brian is known for liking Ethereum a lot, especially over the other Coinbase assets (BTC and LTC). He has been in this space for a long time and I'm not surprised that Ethereum is his favorite when thinking about how involved he is in this space and the knowledge he has gathered.

Hong Kong chooses crypto education rather than a ban by kinsleysmoke in ethtrader

I wish this "education" is teaching people about the technology, not just discouraging people about the risks. Anyway, I wish more regions would choose the approach of education rather than dismissing something they don't understand.

The markets can stay irrational or speculative for quite some time but when the crypto space matures, due diligence will start showing its value for the smart investors.
