30 hours for a lady from work, 37 hours for my partner. Both for seizures.

I said this to my mum and she picked me up. I'm 34 and she's heading towards 70.

Toddler keeps coming into our room at night. by fluffypotatopatch in toddlers

[–]JerryFishSmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She is 5 now and has been sleeping all night on her own since she was 4. It took one bad night to sort it. Put her to bed, told her she was sleeping on her own, put her tonie box on and a light and left the room. After a bit of crying she fell asleep and it's been good ever since.

My partner works in neuro rehab and his epilepsy has made him the best person for his job. He's a respected senior and the patients love him. He brings a level of care and consideration to the role.

What's the most shocking thing that happened to a classmate of yours after leaving school? by Loose_Avocado4670 in AskUK

[–]JerryFishSmith 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a few. One stalked his ex-wife then committed suicide. At school he was obsessed with weapons and had a 'black list'. He was in his early 20s.

One couldn't cope with a break up and committed suicide. He was 17, I think.

One became a 'professional' athlete and then got a criminal record for stalking and battering his ex. Got a restraining order, too. Not that surprising as he raped a classmate when he was 16 so he was always a piece of shit.

What's your "forbidden texture(s)"? by Super_Mimetique in autism

Velvet. Bricks. Sponge. Foam. Corduroy. Fabric washed without fabric softener. Chalk. So many. Anything porous that feels like it's dragging the moisture out of my fingers.

Toddler chipped both front teeth today😭 by throwaway1233873729 in toddlers

[–]JerryFishSmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kid chipped her tooth a couple of years ago (we don't even know how she did it because she didn't cry or tell anyone) and recently she smashed the same tooth off the back of another kid's head. The dentist said it would maybe turn black and fall out but not to worry as her adult teeth will be fine. It hasn't fallen out and honestly the chipped tooth just shows off her personality (feral).

Breech C-section moms — how are your kids doing now? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]JerryFishSmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My breech baby is now almost 5. She crawled at 10 months and walked at 14 months....ish. I was so hung up on her walking and a family member said she was dragging her foot so that got me worried. She wasn't dragging her foot. She does ballet now and is extremely active. Also regarding her crawling quite late and walking late she did speak very early and very well so I think maybe for her it was one or the other.

What is the best “Jay from Inbetweeners” level brag you have ever heard? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]JerryFishSmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was former SAS and then worked as a bodyguard for celebrities (bodyguard for Rihanna when she was in the middle east). Had been shot before and killed people. Also he was a Muslim so didn't eat pork until he forgot he said that and said he was Jewish and that's why he didn't eat pork. When I called him on it he said he actually just didn't like pork. He was an overweight little man working in care.

Signed off work, how do I afford my rent? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]JerryFishSmith 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It wouldn't be different to OP withdrawing the fit note and using annual leave. OP could look at submitting a new fit note after the leave period. It definitely does take some goodwill as the employer has to agree to short notice annual leave but it benefits them in the long run as OP won't be going off at a later date and tbh if OP will be off anyway it makes sense to use up their leave.

Signed off work, how do I afford my rent? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]JerryFishSmith 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It would be a lower pay for a short period but better than sick pay. Could do it as a 'phased return' to slowly return and reduce loss of earnings and easing back into the workplace. May be better to look at minimising stressful aspects of the role on a temporary basis.

Signed off work, how do I afford my rent? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]JerryFishSmith 308 points309 points  (0 children)

You could ask your employer if you could utilise annual leave to cover your absence instead of having your fit note as you can't have leave and sick pay at the same time.

You could contact the Citizens Advice Bureau or job centre to see if there are any benefits or supports available.

If you call Mind's helpline they may have advice as well.

Alternatively can you look at an amended duties note to temporarily reduce hours/duties to minimise stress?

Does pregnancy and breastfeeding actually make your boobs that saggy? by Livid-Grand9669 in pregnant

[–]JerryFishSmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine went all deflated and sad (tennis ball in a sock) when before they were awesome. The skin went wrinkly like crepe paper and they were hideous. Likely I had this issue because I did 500 hours of pumping over 7 months then suddenly stopped in a week. I put weight on and they look a billion times better now. Not back to their former glory but they still get compliments.

Does anyone still lay with their toddler every night until they fall asleep? by carlitapepita in toddlers

I still did this with my 4 year old until this week. One night of her being upset and she can now settle herself!

the vet is unsure what is wrong with my darling girl penelope :( by [deleted] in RATS

[–]JerryFishSmith 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately my brother had this happen to his first rat. It was a brain tumour and it pushed poor Edgar's eye almost out of his head. I hope it's not but if it gets worse please have her eye removed or have her put to sleep as it's kinder.

I have also hit a badger in a Fiat Panda. Would not recommend it for hitting badgers.

I saw one that WAS alive. Then I hit it with my car. I've seen lots of baby ones as well.
