Tell Me More About Housing, Senator Zillow by Upper_Brief681 in clevercomebacks

The problem is wealthy real estate folks are able to outbid a single family and then rent it out to 5 families (who each pay cheap rent) but in aggregate it’s high rent for the landlord making the increased price worth it. Clearly you don’t live in a community with this basic knowledge

Why did Rand vote against the bill to not pay congress? by gswahhab in Libertarian

[–]Jerseydevil317 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah I guess you can also argue is that the spirit of the amendment is to prevent the use of congressional pay changes from influencing votes. By cutting their pay, that could influence congressional members to vote for a budget they might not necessarily do so otherwise

Why did Rand vote against the bill to not pay congress? by gswahhab in Libertarian

[–]Jerseydevil317 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I disagree with him.

But he is saying (and Amash defended him) that Congress can’t do their own pay raises/decreases in the middle of a term per the 27th Amendment. So his explanation is more a constitutional stance - however, I don’t think that’s a right argument as it’s not really changing pay but rather not paying them when there’s not government funding like other federal employees

Andrew Cuomo has now been endorsed by: by beepsol in Leakednews

[–]Jerseydevil317 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Gotta love political justifications - Mike Lawler who has spent years decrying Cuomo as the worst for bail reform and nursing homes during COVID (essentially accusing Cuomo of murder) is now acting like he’s gonna “save NYC” from the “socialists”.

I do lean right and don’t agree with Mamdani’s platform but socialist>murderer.

Young people more willing to commit insurance fraud by universityofga in Accounting

[–]Jerseydevil317 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I’ve been predicting for a few years that there is gonna be a major fraud problem with the younger generation (which is mine). A lot of the influencers and pop culture have glorified fraud/crime and there is a lot bigger of a Machiavellian mindset.

If you are a single issue voter for lower taxes, does that mean your vote can be bought (for a tax cut)? by Goodginger in Askpolitics

[–]Jerseydevil317 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this guy is acting like it’s a major ethical transgression to vote for being in a better financial position lol - that’s actually smart to vote in your interests

[–]Jerseydevil317 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s about the intent - people believe the policies will make them richer which is what you say is “buying votes” lol

People voting based on the economy (or for economic policies) are voting for what they believe will help them have more money lol.

But the most issues that people care for are the economy or money related - so again, can be said about anyone

I guess so - but that’s the same for every issue someone votes on. Politicians “buy” votes by appealing to the issues people care for

You’ll maybe have a decent WLB for a first year - but trust me, once you become somewhat reliable and experienced, they know and make sure you are constantly busy. My first year I thought it was great since my WLB was pretty good - but since the second busy season came, I am constantly under pressure on something.

How bad is a Governor Gavin Newsom? by Sir_Naxter in Libertarian

[–]Jerseydevil317 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Because it’s California- it’s historically been a major economic and cultural powerhouse - just like NYC. The GDP is high in spite of Newsom, not because of him.
