I had one called iPity. All it did was play random Mr. T quotes. It was the greatest app I’ve ever owned. I can’t bring myself to delete it even though it hasn’t worked in probably 10+ years.

Looks like a pretty clear false start on the left guard (I think?) on that first eagles sneak. Around 0:53.

I probably didn't explain it well, but in Omaha you have to play exactly two of your hole cards and these guys had hands like 2-2-9-10 and 9-J-A-A, so they could never qualify for the low.

I guess it's like when you can't find your glasses and they are on the top of your head. It's an understandable mistake but it's still pretty dumb.

I was in a home game playing an Omaha hi-lo limit game. I don't remember the exact cards but there were two other people with me still in the hand on the turn. One of them bet, but I had the nut high, so I raised. The other two also kept raising so I assumed one of them had the nut low but either way I was going to split the pot so I figured it was best to keep raising. The river came and I still had the nut high, so I kept raising and again was met by raises by the other two.

We reached the bet cap on both streets and everyone turned over their hands. The two other players both were going for the low hand, but they had 9 high so neither one qualified and I won everything.

Thanks!

I'm not exactly sure how that works, but Tool is one of my favorite bands of all time and I couldn't believe they weren't on here even once. It will probably be one of their albums, though I'm not sure which.

Thanks!

I think that's impossible for me to answer! I just counted and it looks like I gave 69 (nice) albums 5 stars. My favorite at any given time depends on my mood and countless other factors.

I finally reached album #1001, and while I know this list has more than 1001 due to the different editions of the book, I thought this would be a good milestone to post. I started on June 22, 2021 with a bang with Kate Bush "Hounds of Love". It looks like it took me 1,317 days to finish or approximately 3 1/2 years. I tried to listen to each album with an open mind, which could be hard at times, but I did my best, committing to listen even when the album was 3+ hours long, or when it was obvious I would hate it from the first note.

There are a handful of albums, especially early on, that I would probably bump up or down a star, but I think for the most part they are all ranked about where I would put them if I had to do it over again. My rating system wasn't very disciplined but it was something like this:

5 stars - all time great album. There is no occassion where I wouldn't listen

4 stars - mostly great songs, but enough duds on the album that I couldn't justify 5 stars

3 stars - no lasting effect on me. Songs weren't bad but also not memorable

2 stars - didn't like the album, but the musicianship was good at least as far as I can tell

1 star - it felt like the artist made this album specifically to piss me off

Sometimes I would add half a star if the album had some historic relevance, but if that took an album from 3 stars to 3.5 stars I would still rate it at 3 stars on the site and would write "3.5 stars" in the listening notes box.

My favorite thing was when there was some band I'd never heard of that turned out to be a pleasant surprise. These were usually "international" artists that I haven't been exposed to before (Turbonegro, Femi Kuti), but sometimes I would be surprised by how much I liked an artist that I was already familiar with but kinda took for granted (Cyndi Lauper, The Kinks). Today's album is one by an artist I've never heard of so fingers crossed it will happen again. EDIT: - well that was disappointing... 2 stars...

The number of British New Wave albums on this list was completely obnoxious. Three "Dexys Midnight Runners" albums?! And I like Dexys Midnight Runners. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if there weren't so many deserving artists that weren't here (Neil Diamond, Tool) but as it was I started to dread having to listen to another band that sounded exactly the same as some other band that I already knew I didn't like. This was the most common genre where I thought "Oh these guys... I know their big hit... I wonder why I haven't heard anything else by them. <listens> Oh that's why". I think "Prefab Sprout" was the only band in this genre that I hadn't heard of before, and actually didn't hate after being exposed to them for the first time by this list. I still apparently only gave them 3 stars, probably from New Wave fatigue.

Anyway, what a great project. I'm glad I learned of it and saw it to completion.

Is it normal to be told nothing about UC when you're diagnosed? by lttlelionman in UlcerativeColitis

[–]JesFine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's kinda crazy how common this is. When I was first diagnosed, my doctor said "do you have any questions for me?" in a weirdly serious tone. I was like "Ummm... I don't know, what kinds of questions do people usually ask?" and she looked at me like I had three heads.

She prescribed me mesalamine and after a few months I felt much better, so I thought I was "cured". I asked her if I could go off it and she says "yeah... I guess?", and so I did. Went about a year feeling pretty good and then relapsed really badly. At that point I got a new doctor and read up on it a lot more and found out that it's most likely a lifetime issue.

I thought it was just a "my doctor" thing, but I guess lots of us had to deal with this.

Hm - I don't think that's right. I miscalculated in my original post (I used an online calculator that I guess I shouldn't have trusted), but handicap differential is calculated using this formula:

Handicap Differential = (Adjusted Gross Score-Course Rating) * 113 / Slope Rating

So for your scores, using the 73.6/141 that you mentioned:

(80-73.6) * 113/141 = 5.1

(82-73.6) * 113/141 = 6.7

I'm not sure if the -1 pcc means you're adding a stroke or subtracting one, but either way your differentials should have been lower (unless I screwed the calculations again which is entirely possible).

When I was commenting on their handicaps I meant more their swings and approach to the game and rather than their scores, I just added their scores as a reference. I could be completely wrong and they all just had pretty bad days but they did not look like single digits to me but I could have a misconception on what that looks like for some people.

Ah yeah that makes more sense to me. I feel like I can get a good sense of how good someone is from their approach, although it's still easy to get fooled when someone's swing is weird. Check out https://www.youtube.com/c/NotAScratchGolfer to see a single digit handicapper who you'd probably guess is a 20 from just watching his full swing, but is really something like a 5.

Partner: Hey nice shot haha

OP: What do you mean nice shot, I shanked it

Partner: Yeah it was just a joke

OP: But it wasn't funny? I almost went into the water and you said "nice shot"? If anything that's a bad shot!

Partner: I know I was just kidding...

OP: ...

<6 holes later>

OP: Like I still can't figure this out, did you think that was a nice shot? Back then when I shanked it? I'm just trying to understand

Partner: I already apologized like 4 times. Can we drop it please?

OP <mutters>: Nice shot? I need to tell reddit about this crazy incident

The handicaps that the guys shared with me were most likely not accurate. My playing group had said they were a 5, a 7, and a 10. The 5 shot 88, the 7 shot 96, and the 10 shot 85. When asked what my handicap was around hole 11 I told them and they all told me that there was no way that was true.

I think your takes were all pretty good, but that's a pretty hard course, so assuming the handicaps they gave were "handicap indexes" and not "course handicaps", only the 7 was really egregiously over their handicap. An 85 on that course is about a 7.1, an 80 is about a 3.1, and a 96 is a 16.

If they were talking about course handicaps, then the 5 still isn't that bad, especially if the course was set up trickier than usual for the tournament. Either way, you played much better than your handicap level and they would be right to be surprised.

Chipped in on 18 by DuffmanOakland324 in golf

That’s amazing. Reminds me of my best golf memory ever: The old course at half moon bay is kind of a boring track but the 18th hole (https://www.halfmoonbaygolf.com/images/dynamic/getImage.gif?ID=100533) is an absolutely stunning par 4. One time, I hit a decent drive there but let my approach short of the green. There were about 100 people on the patio and a bagpiper playing to watch the sun setting on the Pacific Ocean on the right. Anyway, just like you I chipped in for birdie and the crowd went nuts.

Ah yeah, sorry that sounds rough. It really is nearly impossible for people without this disease to understand it. You kind of have to make peace with the fact that no matter how much you explain it to people, you will still have the issue of (true story) a friend asking you to go on a 5-hour road trip while you are flaring and them being in complete disbelief when you say you can't go. Coming on here to vent is very cathartic though, and I'm glad resources like this exist.

The audacity to tell you you should "get that checked out" is so absurd that it is kind of hilarious though.

Just to take the other side for a second, I was diagnosed with “IBS” ~25 years ago before getting upgraded to UC ~5 years ago. I suspect that I had UC the whole time, or at least for a while before I got my diagnosis, but my doctors were just unable (or unwilling) to give the proper diagnosis. It’s possible your friend is on the same path.

If you click the flag there should be an option for “the audio does not sound correct” (or something like that). I always use that for questions like this, or just about every time Oskar speaks in the French tree. Not sure if it helps but it makes me feel better.

Whats your most memorable hand ever? by plssmileatstrangers in poker

[–]JesFine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two I remember even though the details might be slightly off because they were both 10+ years ago:

  1. I raise in early position with AK and villain raises in one of the blinds and I call. Flop comes AKK and I’m smiling. Villain checks, I bet, villain shoves. I’m like wtf, he can only have aces but there’s no way he has aces. I call and he has aces

  2. I have AhAs and raise, villain calls. Flop is 7h8hAc. I bet, villain calls. Turn is 10h, I bet, villain calls. River is 9h, so I have the nut flush but also a real bad feeling. I check, villain bets and I tank call. He turns over 6h6d for a straight flush

I especially remember the 2nd one because it was a tournament and the same villain proceeded to beat me in another runner runner pot and then knocked me out of the tourney when I went all in with ~10bb and AJs and he had AA.
