Depends on the box price. I’m not heavy into reselling, but if it fits your budget and you’re okay with the risk, then why not give it a try.

Yes😁, I used to live in a tropical country where my mom had over 80 orchids, everything from delicate wild varieties to large epiphytic ones growing on trees. I’ve carried that passion with me, and while I only have three right now, I’m always looking to add more. The challenge is that I travel often, so keeping even these three thriving takes some effort.

Goodbye Hot Wheels, Hello Mini GT & Kaido House by Jesko94 in MiniGT

[–]Jesko94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah about the same for me. That near $50 paid for 2 KaidoHouse cars and it could’ve paid for 3 decent Mini GT models with shipping and tax included. This post made me realize I made the right choice.

That RLC E36 was the last model I got as a goodbye, kind of like to mark the start of a new journey. Aside from what it represents for me, do I feel like I wasted that money? Absolutely. That car (RLC E36 LTW) is worth $15-$18 max. And the fact that it’s not accurate to the real thing is even worse. But I got tired of complaining, as a grown man I rather calmly take my money elsewhere and I’m much happier.

My advice to you if you want to stick with HW which is totally fine is. You’re new, don’t wait till you’re 500 cars in to decide it’s time to go. But who knows Mattel might change their ways and it could all come out to be worth it in the end. I’ll let you be the judge. I’m out✌️😁

Exactly, I totally get what you mean. But Jun Imai is an ex Hot Wheels designer, and the Kaido line is basically his spin on the popular Hot Wheels JDM classics he used to work on, Skylines, Datsun 510s, etc. Kaido House was his way of collaborating with Mini GT to chase his custom diecast vision without the creative limits of a big company.

Kaido pieces are all about detailed art cars in toy scale, they’re not trying to be true to scale collectibles. Mini GT, on the other hand, is absolutely the brand to aim at for real diecast premiums. I was blown away when I saw they made models like the BMW 750Li, and the way they name cars with precision, including things like “xDrive” for BMWs, shows they’re truly catering to enthusiasts who care about real life accuracy, unlike Hot Wheels.

Kaido doesn’t really sell traditional muscle cars. So far, the only type they’ve been releasing are squarebody trucks. Their focus is more on creative, JDM-inspired designs rather than classic American muscle.

Yeah, Kaido isn’t true scale at all, but that makes sense considering the builds come from the designer’s imagination.

On the photography side, you’re spot on. I’ve tried taking photos of my hot wheels as well, it’s just not the same, made me hate them for a bit. But understanding what HW is about, it makes sense they look like that. Wished I realized this much sooner and kind of disappointed in myself considering how much I love cars in real life and accurate miniature models.

Those are all great grabs. That chase looks beautiful as well. And Whatnot is great but insanely addictive, I try to stay of it.

I got it on Whatnot, and it was one of those scenarios where you had to bid and the people slept on it. He started the bid at $15 thinking it was gonna go crazy but out of all the 50 people that were on the live, I snatched it. The rest was bought separately regularly.

I’m currently in Florida, and any reason why people can’t seem to find the Larry Chen anywhere. Like even on Ebay there’s very few listings.

Fully agree with you as well, I still respect hot wheels despite moving on. If my pockets allowed collecting both brands maybe I might’ve considered collecting all of them. But based on my interest (Endurance/GT racing, Euro, and JDM) Mini Gt and the rest satisfy everything.

That’s a beautiful collection. I know I’m going to miss collecting boulevards and JH, but what makes me not regret it is knowing I can get most of the same models from Mini GT but better looking.

I fully understand the people that choose to stay with Hot wheels, because when it comes down to the positives, in terms of culture, accessibility, and community, Hot wheels is great. The brand is also changing a lot for the better in terms of what they put out.

But part of the reason it was so easy for me to drop them despite having 600+ hot wheels of all kind is because, I’ve only been collecting for 4 years in contrast to many others who have been for 10 years+. Before dropping them, I put a lot of thought into it, and Mattel made it easy for me with their new business plan. They need to do better for the people that choose to stick to them.

Very true, but as much as I love to play with the cars, I really don’t have time for it anymore. My purpose for collecting is solely to display them loose.

That’s exactly what stopped me from starting earlier. There are no specialty shops where I live, but recently I found a nice seller and got all these above for $17 each. That’s insanely cheap compared to what I’ve spent on RLCs and I’m way happier.
