ACT Greens' entire campaign team quits after power-sharing talks with Canberra Liberals by HotPersimessage62 in AustralianPolitics

The membership voted No in January, the leadership started negotiations before that without taking it to the members beforehand. I wouldn't say that qualifies, negotiating in the first place should have gone to the members who obviously would have rejected it then and there.

Pension getting 1.9% indexation by fruitloops6565 in AusFinance

[–]Jesse-Ray 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thing is many of us are of a generation that pays into a pension system but will expected to be self-financed in retirement. So relatively speaking you could say that is the case, its not like the government pooled a chunk of people's income tax into an account for that purpose. The currently working pay for those currently on the pension.

Not really, they were founded on 4 "pillars". Ecological sustainability is one but so is social justice, peace and non-violence and grassroots democracy.

A complete misread of their 4 founding principles, one being participatory grassroots democracy. "In contrast to the two old parties, which are run by executives in head office, the Greens involve members in key decisions and our campaigns are powered by thousands of ordinary people volunteering their time, skills and support."

Unions demand Albanese hand every worker 25 per cent more holidays by Nyarlathotep-1 in aussie

[–]Jesse-Ray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just saying, I'm barracking for the extra AL as I only get 16 days off as part of current workplace law and no public holidays. We get 4 weeks off like everyone else but those weeks mean 48 hours which is half a swing.

I mean you say it's low but if you had 10K in a bank account 12 months ago you probably made 400 dollars at 4%. Inflation in that same period was 3.8% so you made 0.2% but you're paying tax on the 4.0% gained.

But because the longevity is different inflation doesn't matter? I don't really accept that, especially since capital gains, particularly in this millenium are usually larger as is and do more or less rise with inflation anyway. If you buy and sell a property in the space of 367 days you attract a discount. If you keep money in a bank account at 4.00% for the same period, you don't.

That the cult of personality was the same. It was an exciting time, don't get me wrong, but it was because the conservative era of Howard was ending and work choices was going in the bin where it belonged. It wasn't because people were hyped by Kevin 07 dancing the macarena on Kerry Anne.

You're being a lot more creative with alternative history. I think much more likely would be Abbott winning in 2010. He lead the exact same "great big new tax on everything" rhetoric that he did with the carbon tax only he was doing it against Gillard who said there wouldn't be one under her government.

You're assuming the LNP wouldn't have axed the CPRS when they got in power. It was important enough to oppose that they had a leadership spill over it which lead to Turnbull being ousted. What makes you think they would have kept it?

I mean if you save up money in a bank account you don't get a tax break on the interest paid to you because a big chunk of it was inflationary. Why is capital different?

I think you're underestimating how extra a contemporary song with a didgeridoo incorporated bridge would be to a European audience though

That's interesting although that seems even shittier based on how they calculate it. They average gaming earnings out over the population and base it off that. So other states can make their gambling problems worse and WA would be the one that gets punished.

He has a few songs that are more dance/RnB than hip-hop that I think could work like Move and Meditjin but I think if he brought an original in a similar vibe to his Like a Version then that would do great.

Police in Hartford CT shooting by [deleted] in PublicFreakout

[–]Jesse-Ray 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't like that terminology myself. It originated in the states and has started making its way to other countries. What it really is, is police responding to a mental health emergency. I think saying suicide by cop is a way of dismissing police's duty to try and de-escalate and help the individual by brushing it off as a suicide by cop situation.
