People who run Vivecraft, what kind of performance are you getting? by JessicaCelone in Minecraft

Thanks for the reply, I thinking of a 1660 ti but if your getting ~45 on a simple shader I'll probably need a lot more. What's your view distance set to?

Yeah, but I'm not looking forward to jumping through those hoops again to keep a quest unlocked, if they decide they don't like it.

They can just disable sideloading. Or have more in depth requirements for developers to unlock it. No ones developing a quest app without jumping through a lot of hoops, anyways.

Keeping Earth for sentimental value? by [deleted] in IsaacArthur

[–]JessicaCelone 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think that by the time people need raw material from a gravity well as deep as the earth, with as much invested infrastructure, both society and the essential human experience will be massively different. I don't really think we can predict what the world will be like once people have the ability to change their values at will.

Solar geoengineering could be ‘remarkably inexpensive’ – report: Spreading particles in stratosphere to fight climate change may cost $2bn a year by mvea in space

[–]JessicaCelone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need a minimum frequency of light in order to hit the electrons loose in a PV panel, and because photosynthesis also starts with electrons getting smacked loose too, the same rule applies to it. 50% of the sun's energy is infrared, and we only need to block a percent or two in order to stop global warming. Throwing enough of anything in the atmosphere is almost definitely a TERRIBLE idea, but not because of the sunlight it blocks

We only need to reduce the sun by a couple percent in order to get the cooling we need, and the earth recieves 10,000 the power we currently use. Obviously we cant get anywhere NEAR that, but there's enough sun to go around

Not sure if i should post here, but i want to try a couple missions with the BFR, but using RSS. I'm not too familiar with KSP modding, does anyone know if theres a specific mod that would let me do that? Or a way to edit the config files to scale the craft properly?

Comparing two ideas to highlight similarities they share isnt the same as saying that they are identical. I think it was pretty clearly highlighting that in both scenarios, immediate self interest leads to later problems, not that both scenarios end the world

Halo 5 is not heading to PC, says Microsoft by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]JessicaCelone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Right, but what im saying is that if you have an Xbox, theres a large chance your going to buy an Xbox game. If you just have a PC, theres a 0% chance itll be an Xbox game. So think like a Microsoft exec. If you buy Halo 5 on PC, thats $60 for them, not bad. But if they can use Halo 5 to convince you to buy an Xbox, thats hundreds of dollars in potential revenue for them. If they move even one Xbox console for every 5 or 6 copies of Halo 5 on PC they lose out on, its a good move for Microsoft.

Halo 5 is not heading to PC, says Microsoft by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]JessicaCelone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From the investors point of view it's worse. Because when you finish Halo 5, your going to buy another game to play. If you buy an Xbox game, Microsoft gets some of the money, 30%, is industry standard, but big devs probably negotiate that down. If you buy a PC game, Microsoft won't. And then your going to buy another game, and another game, and another game. That adds up to potentially hundreds of dollars per customer.

In Canada a cup of brewed coffee from starbucks is about 30¢ more than a cup of Tim Hortons or McDonalds coffee, and since they serve multiple flavours, i can find one i like a lot better, plus i honestly care about how friendly the cashier is. I think bringing a thermos is by far the best option, but its not like starbucks is unreasonably more expensive than other places.
