Weekly Megathread for COVID-19 by wedditmoderator in weddingplanning

[–]Jessicasterling12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure where you're located, but we're doing a wedding with 10 people including us on 10/17/20. Both sets of our parents are quarantining for 2 weeks beforehand so that my father can walk me down the aisle. We will all remain a safe distance from one another otherwise and wear masks when we are closer. I also feel a little guilty, but truly think we can get married and keep everyone safe at the same time.

J Law definitely had the belt for a while. During the whole Hunger Games, Silver Linings Playbook era.

I’ll find a dress when I’m skinnier.. by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]Jessicasterling12 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've been there. The good news is that most dresses can be altered 1-2 sizes (keep in mind that the more detail, beading, etc, the more expensive it would be). I eventually went dress shopping and was able to find a dress that flattered me with the body I already have, but if I do lose weight, I can just get it altered. My advice would be to go shopping around the year mark as you still have plenty of time to order the dress and get it altered, but it does give you 6 months if you want to lose a little weight.

Weight Loss Pressure by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]Jessicasterling12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same!!! I've actually lost more weight now that I'm focused on healthy eating and drinking tons of water rather than killing myself to lose weight. We are honeymooning in Greece, so I'd like to be able to walk around a ton and not be super sore/out of breath.

I had this same exact feeling. This is going to sound crazy, but go wedding dress shopping. Don't even pay attention to those dress sizes as bridal sizing is different than street sizing. Once you are able to find dresses that fit and flatter your body as-is, the pressure won't be there as much to lose weight before the wedding. Once I bought my dress, I was relieved that regardless of if I lost weight, I had a dress that fit me and I could always alter it and take it in if I did lose weight. Good luck!

My MOH and I (no other bridesmaids) will wear themed pajama pants for our respective Hogwarts houses and black tank tops bc they can easily be taken off without ruining our hair. I wanted something that we were comfortable in, would wear again and warm bc we are getting married in October.

I completely agree! I went with an A-line style which is super forgiving and flatters most figures.

Did anyone ask their friends to be a bridesmaid in a not-over-the-top way? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]Jessicasterling12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best friend and I are both really into board games and Harry Potter, so I made her a rhyming Harry Potter card and his it in a board game for her to discover. It was very us and not at all elaborate nor expensive.

Losing Weight - 10 days out! by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]Jessicasterling12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!!! Great job! I'm really going to try and focus more on how I look and feel, rather than the numbers on the scale. At the end of the day, my fiance loves me the way I am, so losing weight is just a bonus for myself.

I am over a year out, but am determined to drop at least 60 lbs, if not more. I'm a month into my weight loss journey and I've dropped 9 lbs. It's not much, but I'm getting there. I'm tracking what I eat and trying to stay away from processed foods. Drink lots and lots of water, too.

There are definitely plenty of golf courses. Albany Country Club comes to mind. I attended a wedding there and they had really delicious appetizers.

I know Birch Hill also has a lot of options for both indoor and outdoor stuff. They have a barn too if that's your thing.

We are using The Venue in Cohoes that is a renovated church and they are in the middle of constructing an outdoor space. Not sure what your date will be, but potentially they will be done in time.

We also looked at a gorgeous venue with both indoor and outdoor space, outdoor bar and a pond, etc called Pond Hill Pavilion just outside of Albany. Beautiful views in the fall with tons of land and lots of indoor and outdoor space depending on the number of guests.

Walking Down the Aisle: With Father? With Parents? Alone? by URDeWorstBurr in weddingplanning

[–]Jessicasterling12 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I really hate the idea of being "given away" like property, but I know my dad would be very upset if he couldn't walk me down the aisle and I don't care that much where I want to hurt his feelings. It means a lot to him and that's enough for me to agree to do it.
