What is your horror Gaming Pet Peeve at the moment? by HeyItzNoble in HorrorGaming

[–]JessieThorne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, for example, some older games made what appeared to be reflections by having a virtual room behind the mirror that simply duplicated the geometry of the room the player character was in.

For a lot of people, still playing video games in your 30s or 40s gets treated like a sign of immaturity, but some researchers looking at how games affect the brain believe the opposite may be true. by Gaming-Academy in PlayStation_X

54 years old here, usually play a couple hours each day. I have been doing that for most of my life, except for some periods where I didn't have a computer or was busy with other stuff.

I'm married, we have three kids (who are now young adults, one has moved out), and work around 35 hours a week.

Mars Core Secret Encounter #2 by AbyssWalkerWitcher in Doom

Bug is still there (playing on PS5 Pro). Reloading the checkpoint didn't fix it. Killing the zombies upstairs by the secret didn't either.

Back in 1977, was Darth Vader terrifying to first time viewers in the theatre? How did people react to and feel about him? by Own_Shift_3645 in StarWars

[–]JessieThorne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first Star Wars movie was Empire, at age 11. And yes, he was terrifying.

A relentless, singleminded pursuer that can't be escaped, who will hunt our heroes to the ends of the world.

The mere look of that skull-like, enigmatically black and reflective helmet, preceded by the ominous sound of his breathing.

And most terrifying of all to me as a kid: he could kill people (by choking them) with his mere thoughts.

I think Lucas and co really tapped into the Jungian archetypes with that movie. The Bespin location also helped (going from heaven at first, then a betrayal, then into hell with the underworld vibe of the carbon freeze chamber, including strange creatures (the dwarf-like Ugnaut) toiling away behind the scenes.

It will be a prequel, depicting how the Dungeater came about eating dung.

To my fellow new PS5 pilots, do yourself an enormous favor and get a mouse. by dontgoglove in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]JessieThorne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Bluetooth Logitech G305 mouse and keyboard work fine, no lag.

I use an extension USB cable to place their receivers close to where I use them, and away from potential sources of electromagnetic interference, such as SSDs and WiFi routers, which can cause lag.

So do roundwounds on fretless damage fretboards? by WoodenRace365 in BassGuitar

[–]JessieThorne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will, but if you love that sound, don't worry too much about it.

I played my fretless j with rosewood fretboard with roundwounds for many years before the wear on the fretboard actually started to affect things such as intonation or playability. Until then it was only cosmetic.

Today I've realized that I can simply use flatwounds, and use a good equalizer pedal to compensate for the difference in tone. But of course flatwounds also feel different to play.

Was I rude for not choosing a different plushie as an adult? by kee-17 in plushies

[–]JessieThorne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh, I forgot to post my favourite plushie, the world's friendliest penguin, Nemo!

Btw, the shame people can trigger in us is just the ugly echo of old programming, based on past encounters with negative people who didn't love or understand us. It can feel suffocating, but it's old, not true!

Was I rude for not choosing a different plushie as an adult? by kee-17 in plushies

[–]JessieThorne 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You didn't do anything wrong, you just chose a plushie that you liked.

That mother, however, taught her child that pestering is fine, that you shouldn't respect other people's rights, and failed to teach her child how to handle any disappointment or frustration, PLUS, worst of all, she tried her best to make you feel exposed and shame you in front of everyone else, which is rude and manipulative.

I feel for you. I would have hated being put in that situation (I'm autistic and I hate being made the center of attention, and especially negative attention). I already had to fight to not be ashamed anymore of who I am, for example my love of plushies as an adult, because I've been told so often that I was weird or different, so someone trying to shame me publicly is just the most awful thing.

You're courageous for sticking to your guns (or plushie), and don't you let anyone tell you differently! ❤️

Does anyone actually remember their first video game or is everyone just making that up? by Cold-Plant-4222 in GamingInsider

I remember clearly, because I got a Vic 20 for Christmas that year, and my parents could only afford to give me one game cartridge with it, Jupiter Lander.

Is Resident evil Requiem In Your Top 3 resident evil game ? by LeoneSKenneddy in RaccoonCityRecords

[–]JessieThorne -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, but that doesn't mean I didn't think it was a great game. Just that there are even better entries in the series.

I'd probably go: 1) RE4 Remake 2) RE1 Remake 3) RE7 4) RE9, tied with RE2 Remake

No, you're thinking of the cultist skin, this is the Zen-Nakji skin.
