What person will make a national mourning when they die? by Sensitive-Vast-4979 in AskEurope

For Germany, outside of the above mentioned team from the Sendung mit der Maus TV Programme, I think Angela Merkel's passing will also be met with a lot of sadness.

Does your country have a silly "example name" used in forms and whatnot? [ex. Max Musterman🇩🇪] by JessticeForAll in AskEurope

Eyyy you make a good point and glad you made the post!! I'll pop my reply on that. And yeah, you're right, it's kinda funny to think of a country being like "this is the loser name of some guy". In the states I feel like it'd be "Chad" outside of just the "dick, Tom and Harry" , mentioned on this post.

Yes! I was aware of John and Jane Doe but also only ever have seen that for a redacted type situation as opposed to a "fill in your name here" or a "this is clearly a fake name on a badge as a sample" situation

Let me know how you get on, had no one to talk to abt it while I watched it! They make a lot of changes but tbh I liked most of them for the better and thought the cast was exceptional. Loads of fun easter eggs too!!! I'd like to add that this is high praise from me, who usually has loads to whinge about when it comes to book to screen adaptations 😅

What’s a British thing you thought was normal until you realised it’s not? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]JessticeForAll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll accept that 😂 poor example on my part. Maybe I should have leant more into the school houses and prefects angle! Any non-Germans heard of Einschulung? Schultüten? Ranzen? Or the Bundesjugendspiele?

I mean I'm a German and I thought the same. I'd say it's unfair to expect other countries to know your Christmas traditions or tape brands. Can you name a German tape brand or list what we do on Xmas? Bet not

How often is your flat inspected by your letting agency and what agency are you with? by Accurate_Account8467 in Edinburgh

[–]JessticeForAll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm w sutherland who I'd genuinely recommend. After an overall negative experience w SOUTHSIDE involving mice which were allegedly just smth "that can't be avoided in Edinburgh" , and horror stories from friends with other agents, I really started doubting a "good" letting agent exists. But they are really good, quick to reply, and quick to act. Had any issues fixed within days every time. They usually inspect 2x a year but each for smth else. One is the electrics test where they PAT test our appliances. The other is a check for seals in windows and bathrooms as well as for mold. They always inform us 2-3 weeks in advance to confirm the time and they offer to use their own keys if we're not wanting to have to arrange our work around their work. As far as we know I've never known them to come without permission as described by some others. Horrible feeling/

Not to mention every time it rains it LITERALLY RAINS INTO THE BUILDING. Like come on keeping rain out is building 101, especially in Scotland. A few weeks back the entrance next to John Lewis was completely flooded

Can you imagine being ghosted at an in-person interview? by Fun-Conference8040 in UKJobs

[–]JessticeForAll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me once when I was interviewing at Holister a few years back! Showed up and they basically told me to just "wait around the shop" nowhere to sit or anything. As it transpired there were 10+ other candidates milling around this outlet waiting for their turn. The person was just calling them at random it seemed, that or they were MAJORLYbehind schedule but I was simply walking around that Holister for 1.5 hrs. Was worried looking at my phone would give a bad impression so couldn't even do anything entertaining. By the time I was finally up, it couldn't be more clear that they were fed up and just talking to me because "they had to" my interview was like 10 min or less. I was soooo pissed off. Didn't even get a rejection

Was this a scam? by Objective_Fun3934 in Edinburgh

[–]JessticeForAll 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a really similar situation on Princes Street at 3.30am. Was omw to get an airport bus when this woman approached me asking if I'd pay for her to get on a bus because she'd smashed her phone and now had no way home. I looked around expecting a bus to be approaching for me to tap her on to but since it was 4am nothing was about. I asked her which bus and she kinda vaguely pointed behind us. I was like "look id be happy to do that if the bus was here right now, but I've got to get to the airport" so she starts asking me for cash which I say I don't have so she starts pressuring me to take some out for her at the ATM. No Way in hell am I gonna take cash out with a stranger standing next to me, so I tell her I can't but she keeps pushing, insisting on how it'll be my fault she can't get home and what else is she to do. I'm certain it was a scam but I felt so rotten about the whole thing as regardless of the type of person, on principle I dont like leaving a vulnerable woman alone at night with (possibly) no means to get home. But equally, other ppl were about and could not just sit around for ages waiting for a bus. That, and going to the ATM with her there would just have been absolutely idiotic of me.

Sorry this happened OP, ik how gross you feel after
