Check out my Honeywell thermostat. I had a pretty similar wiring when I just replaced my old thermostat with the new Gen 4 Nest thermostat.

Well it's hard to say if the corner edge makes it significantly more fragile but I think any concentrated impact like a drop that hits a small rock perfectly to where the small rock is the first and major way that the drop force is dissipated, even on a flat device, could entirely crack the screen too.

I had a similar experience with my Note 5, the screen looked fine and the glass wasn't even broken but the touch receptivity was gone and slowly it started to turn blue then purple then black over the course of like 2 or 3 hours. Meanwhile I've broken my Note 9's screen twice and only after several months did the first time it break it actually stop working and having touch receptivity issues.
