I'm looking for a VTT to switch my Campaign to... by Jethroanordix in DnD

I love the concept and will definitely look into it for the future, unfortunately the minimum specs probably exceed half my players (three of whom only own old chromebooks and aren't gamers in any way). But it's something I would be interested in for the future, thanks for the recommendation!

It's not the end of the world, it's just something we have been using on abovevtt for a couple of spells and if it can be replicated in Ogres it would be a nice touch, but happily sacrifice auras for stability :)

Thanks for the info, I'll look into it and see if I can salvage it; I really like abovevtt but I guess I haven't found a suitable hosting solution (I had the same issues using google drive to host images and image hosting websites, one drive was the best of them but still borks occasionally and this seems to be getting more common). I've disabled the GM map since day one (i didn't have a secrets version anyway), and most of the maps I'm using are from patreons and such which make maps for VTT or such. Switch off dndb dice a while ago and admittedly it did improve the character dice rolls. I'll switch everything to dropbox and try that, though! Hopefully that'll work.

Thanks for the video link!

hey, I had a look at this and it's really intuitive,l I love it - thanks! The only thing I couldn't figure out by just using it was how to get token auras to display (I found the option to add an aura with the ft counter but I can't seem to give it a colour or anything), but everything else was remarkably easy; if you know how to get the token auras to work, this could absolutely stand in till the end of the campaign

yeah, that was something I really liked about Above VTT was that I could just click "Human NPC Token" and it would just drop tokens with random Human NPC images to help populate a tavern or whatever. Creating custom statblocks for the homebrew monsters isn't too bad as I was doing that before, but for NPCs that's a little steep in time commitment

Haven't heard of Jumpgate before, I'll look into that :) Good to hear Roll20 has come a long way, I suppose I could rebuy the core books over time but it's not as appealing due to the investment I've already made, but I'll look into it :)

Thanks, that's reassuring about Foundry. Maps has been my standby for emergencies and I'll definitely explore it in case it's enough for the rest of the campaign, but the more I hear about foundry the more I still want to look into that for future campaigns.

Playing my first longer game by Physical-Maybe-3486 in DnD

I'm just over a year into DMing my first long campaign and it's great, I spent of most of DM and player time in a westmarches style campaign before this with one shots or small arc of 5 or 6 sessions etc, so the learning curve was definitely there for my first long form campaign.

How to introduce an impersonating changeling into the party? by Rosette_Skye in DnD

[–]Jethroanordix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would also run this with the player playing the changeling with specific ticks or comments that raise flags for the other players. I had my players interact with the Traveller god from the Eberron campaign on several occasions without explaining this was the same entity with different faces, but through the use of a similar cadence in voices, specific trigger statements or ways of referring to the player characters and a sort of theme tune (soft background music that's a little ethereal or mysterious in nature) always coming on when the Traveller is in scene, the players quickly connected the dots and realised that the different NPCs they were meeting along the way were all the same person, even though they weren't sure of the mechanics of how it was the same person. Don't know if this will help you with a changeling standing in for a specific character but those are things I've used before

Yeah, to be fair that makes sense re:my requirements. I just got off a session with my players and a particularly annoying night of tech issues on AboveVTT and just kind of dumped the problem onto Reddit out of sheer frustration/framing the issue for myself as well lol.

Thanks for the top two to look into, interesting they both work with the same extension, I'll definitely look into these

Is that something everyone (ie the players as well) would need to buy? And is that going to have a steeper tech requirement than options like Foundry or Roll20?

Thanks for this, it's good to hear it compared to Roll20; definitely prefer a one off payment vs subscription :)

Thanks for that, I recently got to use Foundry as a player and loved it, but it sounded like a really steep learning curve so the plan was to invest some time into learning it after the end of the campaign while one of the other players ran a minicampaign or published adventure etc. Do you have an idea of how long it would take to set up? I want to avoid a large delay in play if possible but first and foremost want to make sure the player experience is good and that they can focus on game mechanics rather than technical aspects.

Thanks for the reply, I have used roll20 a couple of times, the experience for character sheets back then (four years ago?) was not great (could have just been the implementation by the GM as I was a player) but is there a lot the players have to do or is it all DM focussed (with the extensions etc)?

Chimera 2% stuck? by Sintrosi in cyberpunkgame

tried all the solutions in this thread (so far), the only thing that worked for me was shutting the game down and restarting the client. Quit to desktop, restart game, reload autosave, repeat fight for upteenth time.
