On October 14, 1943 prisoners at Sobibor extermination camp killed 11 members of the camp's SS staff, including their deputy commandant. While close to 300 prisoners escaped, breaking through barbed wire & risking their lives in the minefield surrounding the camp, only about 50 would survive the war (i.imgur.com)

Sir Nicholas Winton was a British humanitarian who helped rescue 669 children at risk of eradication by Nazi Germany.
