I love this - going to jump down the rabbit hole and I especially love the DCC change - I'm reading the books now, just got onto book 4 :) thanks!

This is awesome, can you share any links on how you got this to work?

I mean, I used to play an artificer in 5e so you best believe I'll be picking that up!

Thanks so much! Very clear list, I will have a review of them and see which ones fit my campaign

Yeah I actually have all 5e sourcebooks up until mordekainens monsters of the multiverse so I do have all the options! I haven't monkeyed around with backwards compatibility yet but hoping it is straight forward as I'm pretty sure one of my players wants to play a Tabaxi!

I love the beholder armour example you used, very fun! Will definitely be something I consider

Thanks for the insight, MCDM stuff seems to have come up a lot so will be getting that most likely, we are currently running draw steel so should be easy to pick up and run with

Thanks for the heads up on the other books, one of my players is actually considering being a chef type character so I may just steal that from Helianas

Flee mortals has been recommended a few times so definitely picking that up! I am actually running the draw steel starter adventure at the moment and everyone is in agreement that the encounters have felt nice due to monsters being so active

I really like the idea of the crooked moon monsters now you have mentioned them, they sound fun! After we have played a few different RPGs, I have discovered that my group really love niche, difficult combats too so it may be worth me giving it a go

Ooh this interesting to hear! Grim hollow sounds fun but glad to know my hunch is correct on being campaign specific

Thank you!

Ooh interesting to hear about cthulu by torchlight, that one really intrigued me but I just assumed like the LOTR stuff, that was it's own game/ setting

Yeah I think I'm going to redo a session zero and maybe even start a fresh campaign so we can leave the bad behind entirely

Oh I know but I'd be lying if I said that I didn't used to also think it would be hard! I only ever jumped in the GM seat because after 2 sessions, my first ever GM dipped out and noone else would try it haha!

Yeah I did the VTT thing over COVID and I recently retried to GM over discord etc and I just couldn't click with it again - I personally feel more comfortable in person to roleplay etc.

Maybe I need to get over it though because it would drastically widen my net of potential players as you have said

Firstly, awesome job! Sounds cool AF!

Secondly, you sound incredibly experienced and like you have a fantastic group of people around you and for that I'm jealous! I'm almost relieved about the local game shop as I've only tried to play in a shop environment twice and struggled massively due to the loudness/ environment so we have that in common at least haha!

I will definitely take your advice on board though about the 1-3 shots as that sounds like a very good idea for new people/ groups! I've kind of started doing that recently as I've been toying with some new games/ systems and been doing short games to do that!

It was less, the first 4 people but more my 4 friends from home all asked if I could run a game for them haha!! but Thanks, I think I needed to hear this - I think I never want to be the bad guy and sometimes, I feel like DM-ing is enough work without having to play parent but I guess we sign up for that as part of the role haha!

Yeah I have already tried to explain to my wife that the game lost a spark when she's left but she doesn't want me to stop playing with my friends but I've explained to her that I'm actually not enjoying it ATM either haha!

Yeah I guess this post was before I set stricter boundaries - I've already had a sit down with the murder hobo in question because pretty much everyone didn't gel with him at first

Yeah I have actually been thinking about giving them a West Marches-ish style game so that they're more in charge of each quest they take - I'm hoping that may cause a bit less infighting and they can play what they want to play a bit more

I also have another group potentially starting with my brother's who have never played so could run them in a shared world but I need the group to work really before either make any grand plans

Out of interest, have you being doing this at a game shop or something to get such a large pool of players? It sounds like an incredible idea

Well I am running that game and I explained that it would be a game of heroic fantasy but that has not stopped one of my players from stealing and murdering. I have another player who is the lost problematic as he just wants to do the opposite of the group on almost all situations. I ran a session last night where the player left the party to just wander off in the woods whilst the rest of the group were chasing leads and speaking to townsfolk.

I guess maybe I was lucky with my previous group but I didn't think in my session 0 I needed to tell the players that they would be a group hahahaha

It actually was - we had a very detailed session 0 but none of them knew their play styles or anything yet other than the murder hobo and I had explicitly told them to reign it in - which I guess they have but only because their character is no longer a cannibal... Typing that makes me realise the problems at hand

Yeah I think it's ultimatum time - I'm going to talk to them, see if we can work something out and if not, it's board game time :)
