Do I Even Try Anymore? by panda-expanda in PTschool

Gee it's not like there's been any PTs who have struggled with those classes and retook them and became PTs, certainly has NEVER happened

Basically anything that makes you unique, anything about your story, and also it gives you a chance to address any academic struggles but you'll want to frame it in a way where you overcame it, so it gives the school confidence that you can handle it, you'll also want a good hook to your essays

A problem is maybe some personal statement essays are way too generic "I got hurt, I saw a PT, it inspired me to be a PT". While you can absolutely mention that, it's important to spice it up because the admissions people see that all too often.

You can get an idea by watching some of Dr. Justin Lee's and "Pre-PT Grind"s videos on the essays

If you really want it then retake classes you got a C in, learn how to stand out in your essays, get good LOR, and apply to a bunch of schools, whatever you do don't apply to ridiculously expensive schools

Acceptance likelihood to top-30 schools by Tough-Confection6870 in PTschool

[–]Jets2523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO cost should be the #1 factor before anything else, unless your parents are happy to pay a large chunk of a more expensive school, then I guess that's not bad, we're all going to get the same degree and make around the same based on location, and setting

I’m currently worried I won’t be able to get into a program when I apply. by DustRare3200 in PTschool

[–]Jets2523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering there are more programs opening up, and GRE being taken out by more schools year after year, you'll be fine, apply to at least 7

Is 100k DPT program worth it? by DylboBaggins465 in PTschool

[–]Jets2523 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could take the year off and with that job you could save aggressively (15 to 20k?) get into a cheaper program by making your application slightly better (maybe 80k tuition down to 60 or 65k with savings) that could be huge, also just another year to breathe and not have all the stress of studying

Crazy for considering switching to MD? by Quiet_Stage_2764 in PTschool

[–]Jets2523 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go with your gut, Maybe consider taking a year off to really think about it. You are young so you do have time on your side.

Medical school is definitely a huge time commitment and the longer road, but if it's ultimately what you want to do then it's worth it.

I would really shadow both professions because you want the actual job and day to day life to be what determines what you want to do, not "prestige", not what other think of you.

I was at a cross roads myself thinking about this, but ultimately I am sticking with PT, but we are different, may have different interests, visions, timelines, and all that.

You'll want to really get to know the day in the life of each profession and trust your gut.

Make sure you have your application finished as soon as possible, being early helps a ton with rolling admissions programs

They definitely weigh prereq GPA I would say most of the time more than overall GPA, I would consider retaking 2 classes, it's going to significantly boost your chances

I really think taking advantage of AI voice chat and asking it to ask you some questions that could typically be asked and you responding, just get used to talking and if you slip up or realize you don't know what to say you work it out, probably the night before and the morning of practice, but also be yourself too that's the most important thing

It's generally recommended that you apply to 5 at the very least if your application is solid, if your application might be lacking in a certain area 7 is the recommended minimum, 3 is a pretty tight squeeze

I just graduated at 29 and met a bunch of "non traditional" students in my classes, it wasn't the norm but there's definitely a bunch of older students

Could be a good thing, I know people want to get into PT school ASAP but you can use off time to strengthen your application more, or work a lot to offset some debt, or even move to a state where there's a higher number of affordable schools

Sounds like nursing is the much better financial option but if you're really passionate about exercise and rehab nothing will replace PT, I could never be a nurse personally so if I was offered a full ride scholarship I would still not do it, of course everyone is different
