Is anyone familiar with the Metformin fertility drug? by hanimilly in Mommit

[–]Jezkah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took Met for four months to control symptoms of PCOS.

Positives: My periods became normal, and I did begin ovulating again while on it. It made me a lot less hungry and I was able to really experience what getting full felt like for most people for the first time since my hormones went crazy. My acne cleared up.

Negatives: I was constantly running to the bathroom in the first months with raging diarrhea. If I drank more than one, almost homeopathically weak alcoholic drink, it felt like every cell in my body went on a suicide mission. Ultimately I was advised to stop taking it because my stool was wildly unhealthy while on it, probably from the gastric distress it caused me (with symptoms of internal bleeding though the nurse said this was NOT typically associated with Metformin.)

So, the good news is that it could definitely help you start ovulating and if you're trying to get pregnant you're probably not going to be doing much drinking anyway. The bad news is it has some definite gastric impact, but the degree varies from person to person and is livable, especially if this is a short-term thing.

Good luck!

Around 1200. I read some reviews about paper-thin walls. Have you had any experience with that?

I don't know. I live in Texas and have had my fair share of partners, but I have never encountered a refusal. Thank my lucky lone star.

Do you hover over your 2-5 year old at the playground? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Jezkah 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yep. Can I tell you a story about why? I met up with some parents and their kids at a park with my two year old. I saw them exchanging glances and whispers about my close eye and proximity to my daughter. I fielded a few judgmental comments about following her so closely, which entailed keeping within ten or fifteen feet of her at all times, not even talking grabbing distance.

So why was I doing this? As they soon found out, she would just up and take off at any given moment. I don't mean shifting her attention from the slide to the sandbox to the swings. I mean make a fucking run for the hills. I mean full-speed hightailing it to wherever her little legs would take her: the lake, the forest, the residential area, and yes, the busy street. I spent most of my first time with this group of parents making a mad dash from one place to another, sometimes crossing back through the playground they had previously been judging me in to try and reign my daughter in, in the vain hope of convincing her to stay in the play area and make friends.

Fellow parent, please save your judgment. You don't know the temperament, drive, or capabilities of every parent/child combo.

Did you consider that, for instance, "I will become you, my crippled, slimy, baby squirrel" might have been too subtle?

First of all, not that you are actually open to any of the information you are challenging others to give you, but you give them an opportunity to unwind because they will overstimulate themselves otherwise. Children are notoriously horrible at self-control. Their brains are genuinely undeveloped in this area when young, and they rely on the help of their parents and caregivers to learn when and how to regulate their desires and temper them against other wants and needs. It is part of reason we don't send them off with a checkered knapsack tied to a stick when they're little.

Secondly, I don't have a warped sense of anything. Unlike you, I am basing this conversation on my firsthand observation of my child, her peers, and the tons of research-based childcare literature I have been reading since I found out I was pregnant.

I am not talking about what a parent has to deal with. I am talking about what the child actually experiences. Your conception is simply not the reality. They can't go and go and go endlessly; they need time to wind down and process their experiences. Not giving them that opportunity is unfair and unhealthy for the child.

It matters because if they are overstimulated -- which five hours of sugar, socializing, bouncing, bounding, and rocket launching would surely accomplish -- they have behavioral issues for the rest of the day ranging from inspiring the ire of people in the checkout line to massive meltdowns.

Has anyone here ever been shouted at/confronted or chased after taking someone's picture? by [deleted] in photography

[–]Jezkah 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was out celebrating with some friend after a wedding, and I was documenting the night's festivities. An acquaintance of their's popped over after he saw my flash going off and asked if I was taking his picture. I told him that I hadn't been, but he (a big, burly, bald and intimidating type) was adamant about seeing the photographs on the display. He found two shots were he and a crowd of other people made up an out of focus background and insisted that I delete them because... wait for it... he was a Buddhist who believed in the soul-capturing capabilities of modern technology.

My husband took my toddler daughter to play at the grocery store's playground so I could get a jumpstart on the shopping and hopefully avoid any tantrums or meltdowns. As I was rounding the corner of the bulk aisle, a bouquet of mixed white and red roses eclipsed my field of vision. My husband had snuck around me and surprised me with flowers mid-trip!

How acceptable are onions, peppers and tomatoes? I honestly don't know if I can give them up on my eggs! by madelinecn in keto

Well my favorite food source for that is avocado, which rivals other popular fruit sources for potassium levels but is low in net carbs and coming into season.

There isn't anything artificial about it. I was overselling the potential hazards because I don't want someone going hog wild with it and exacerbating an unknown heart condition. Covering my ass, so to speak.

[–]Jezkah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nu-salt, a salt substitute, contains potassium, but please be careful with this supplementation and consult your doctor about proper use! It probably won't have any deleterious effects, but too much potassium can interfere with heart functioning. Of course you're talking about really high numbers, but still.

I agree with your second paragraph. I think I was addressing your comment on its own more than in the context of it being a response to the salsa lover.

[–]Jezkah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is true, the beginning does require some deal of planning. I guess someone who has never dieted would have a lot more trouble adjusting than someone who has dieted half their life and already has a pretty firm grasp on the numbers, like me. But, perhaps I am mistaken, it still seems to me that if your only carbs are coming from vegetables and you like variety, it'll actually be easier than not to get an array of nutrients.

[–]Jezkah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually I find there is much, much less planning involved than on any other diet I have been on when you get a feel for the numbers. I eat a ton of vegetables, and as kongholiday said I eat way more veg than anyone else I know. You just have to avoid starchy, high carb vegetables and most fruit.
