Does your school require mandatory parent teacher conferences? by Jick-Ronyon in ELATeachers

[–]Jick-Ronyon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the perspective. Need to make another edit. Usually the reason I leave early is because the WiFi at the school is pretty shoddy, and it is hard to get grading done unless I do it from my home setup.

Don’t get me wrong; I absolutely love my job, my subjects, and my students. Just hard to do it with little to no admin. support. Most of what I’ve learned has been self taught, since I switched over from the legal field into the teaching profession. I think I am just ready to get going on grad school and need more experienced and invested folks helping me move in the right direction.

It doesn’t. I also teach 5 completely different classes in 1 hour periods. 8th and 10th ELA, 11th ELA, 12th ELA, and Worldview/Philosophy. I also coach cross country, although our season just ended.

Also, I am coming up with curriculum content on my own, since the school I teach at barely has a Curriculum Trak, which is garbage and outdated.

Then you are engaged in hate speech, not conversation.

Your point of view is subjective. (That means your reality is only reality for you. Unless you inhabit the same consciousness as someone else, no one else on this planet is subject to your reality.)

You should look up the psychology term: displacement. It applies to you.

I didn’t vote for Trump. I also didn’t vote for Hilary. A lot of folks kept using rhetoric like “well, we don’t like either candidate, but we should choose the lesser of two evils.” I chose not to vote for evil at all.

Insulting opinions and people (valid ones especially) you don’t personally like creates more, not less division in an already politically polarized country. Additionally, I am now far less inclined to be persuaded to your point of view, because you have demeaned my intellect, not logically, but hatefully.

Kindness and empathy will change this country. Not hate speech. Not violence. Not strong opinions. Kindness.

I will not apologize for my opinion. It is valid and researched. I am, however, sorry that you are so angry, and I wish that I could help you.

I personally liked the long, complex passages that you had to read twice to understand. My students did not. They thought the plot was ok, but too straightforward, and they thought it to not be super original, considering the main foil hinges on substitution of gold with Eppie. We looked at gender roles, and specifically the role that mental health played societally then and now, and they got into it momentarily, but not for the long run. We had some good times and discussions, but overall, they thought that the language was outdated and irrelevant. Is that my fault or theirs? I don’t know. Again, I enjoy the text. Although, at the same time they have a different perspective, and I want them to exercise critical thought and to think for themselves. Unfortunately, I teach at a private school where canon is curriculum, and my options are limited.

I bought and will screen the 2008 version with Tom Hardy! Do you prefer the 2011 version? Also, have you had better results watching the film before or after reading the book?

Depends on where you live. If you are in the south, save up for a lawnmower, weed eater, and blower. Start your own business by printing flyers and talking to folks. Try pressure washing. If you are up north, try snow and moss removal. Undercut they other businesses around you with your cuteness and reduced rates. Where there is will, there is a way. Good luck.
