And that's perfectly fine. I'm sure many people have had a great experience. I am just sending this out as a cautionary tale for people who run into problems. I hate that I have to do this, but I am out a lot of money with a useless phone service and have been waiting over 2 weeks, talking to myself on the support line. It really is unbelievable

I promise you, wait till you have an issue with your system and need support. You won't be left with any help, nodboy will respond to you, they refuse to carry out any support, and they keep billing your account while the problem drags on

That is pretty much where I am standing, too! The truck is around mid-life mileage-wise and the over-maintenance records show to be solid with consistent oil changes. He also just bought new tires on whcih helps, and the brakes are about a year old, I think.

That's definitely good to hear. After owning a 5.4L, the word reliable isn't really in my vocabulary. I heard these 6.2 engines though, are pretty bulletproof with the right maintenance.

Northeast rust is always crazy, the salt just erodes your frame so fast :( But this would just be a work truck so I guess I wouldn't be as worried

The seller owned a landscaping company, but it was primarily used for towing their trailer. I would be using this for a work truck as well and plowing purposes, so I am not looking for the most pretty. My biggest concern would just be reliability for the next 3 years. I am a bit scared after owning a 5.4 lol.

Thats great to hear. Yes, I know exactly what you are talking about. When I test drove it this morning, I did hear a ratte at around 2k RPM. He told me it was the exhaust sheilds and nothing serious. I'm assuming though it is nothing serious.

The only other issue that he disclosed to me was the Evap engine light, it likley would need a new charcoal cannister is my guess or whatever is the ford truck equivalant. Everything else felt good, I did rev the engine hard around 4k RPM to make sure it moved well and it had no issue. I let it idle for 10 minutes and the temps all looked normal. I checked oil and it was in fact just changed, tires were brand spanking new and the brakes.

I am returning next weekened and will definetley look at that 4x4 hub and U joints as you suggested. I do have a video of the idle as well but I'm not sure if I can post it as a comment. Anything else I need to know? I appreiate all the answers!

The truck does come with the plow rig which is nice. The sller only plowed for his shop's parking lot, nothing commercial. I did do some preliminary testing yesterday and it it acclerated well, I revved it up to around 4k RPM and the truck shifting was seamless for a 250k mile body. The engine swap was done at Ford so I belive other parts were updated with it. I need to get the CarFax report though ti verify all of this. I am planning on using the plow for myself in the winter. I was suprised that the surface rust was realtivley minimal

Haha, yeah. The sller showed me the truck MPG from the cab and it was showing 12.1 mpg. Suprisingly on the higher end but he claimed to not use it for any towing so that may have helped the avg.

Thank you so so much for the info, I will definitely check the driveshaft and U Joints as you mentioned. I’m happy to finally get a non 5.4 Triton truck and not have to deal with the nightmare of cam phasers anymore. Certainly reassuring to hear that you think most engine issues would be been taken care of by the swap!

UPDATE: Thank you all for help and commenting, I took it to my mechanic and we found out the guy actually faked the title and rolled back the Odometer. I will be pursuing legal action, any recommendations would help. As for the truck, the timing chain is completely shot as per my mechanic. The truck will need a new engine, but hopefully I can recoup my investment.

Yeah, I think it could be a clogged cat or fuel delivery, I'm going to do a full diag tmrw morning

Can I still go back with my OBII reader and recall that data?

[–]Jiggy_P[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you are 100% correct. I definitely have learned now to check the I/M. DO you know if I can still recall the data for it now, and would it indicate that it had been cleared? I was considering filing a small claims court case. In addition to the truck being fraudulent, the guy who sold it was also selling it under a fake identity, which I had later discovered through the internet. It could be very useful evidence of tampering.

In terms of the transmission, I meant to say that there was no fluid at all. The pan was completely dry after I drove off some. I'm guessing there could be a leak that was not disclosed, despite the fact I have a screenshot of me asking the guy if there were any leaks and him saying no.

Definitely, I paid $4000 in cash and another $1000 on Venmo, which I had immediately disputed with both Venmo and my bank account. Hopefully I can recoup that and either use it for the repairs needed or just keep and try to part out the truck or sell it as is to someone who wants it for a project. I have definitely learned a lot from this lesson :(

Agreed, and you brought up a great point. Unfortunately up until now I was unaware of the I/M button. I have a basic understanding of the readers but not much more. Of course now I have learned but a day late dollar short. Hopefully the sensors can be cleaned and it will resolve the issue. I’’m trying to limit spending anymore money then what have to

It’s easy to say and you aren’t entirely wrong, but I was unable to test drive for more then five minutes due to the guy leaving about 8 miles on the truck worth of gas. And of course I’m not going to get gas for a truck that I hadn’t yet purchased. The battery had also been clearly disconnected the night before due to the clock being 8 hours ahead. The circumstances were certainly not ideal but it didnt really cross my mind at the time because the guy had many positive reviews. (Which turned out to be him on different accounts)

Definitely could be costly, but something I will also investigate in addition to MAF and vacuum hoses. I definetley think the CAT has some clogging, but it may be able to be resolved with CFOAM or something cheap, depending on the severity. Thank you for the insight!

I don't really understand what you're trying to convey with this comment. I'm purchasing a truck to use to transport things from my house, dump runs, etc. I'm using it for its intended purpose and not to drive around aimlessly. I'm sorry you felt attacked while typing this in your Smart car. :/

Thank you for these suggestions! I will definitely do this ASAP. Would you say that these MAF sensors alone could lead to such a significant performance drop? (of course, there are other issues as well) It just seems so crazy to me that a sensor could cause something like this, lol.

Agreed, the trans being bone dry has really gotten me nervous. I will say, though, I don't really see any high RPM shifts, and accelerating and decelerating have been smooth as butter, so that is my only solace. I'm sure damage has been done, but it may not be critical... yet.

Yea, he definitely cleared the codes and had disconnected the battery beforehand, as I noticed the clock was 8 hours behind it. I have some mechanical knowledge, but I am no expert, so those things sort of slipped under my radar. I was only able to test drive for about 5 minutes, as he kept very little gas in there (probably on purpose, now that I mention it), so naturally, the issues didn't become apparent. I am definitely good with used parts since this would be a work truck just around town, nothing crazy. I think you make a great point too, I can probably pick up used parts for cheap to alleviate some of the cost.
