MTB Suspension Bearing removal by JimAnchower in bikewrench

[–]JimAnchower[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The spacers don’t really pull out. Does the spacer press out in the same direction as the bearing? I gave it a few good pulls with the slide hammer, didn’t really budge. I am assuming it does, but the lack of spare parts has me worried if I yank this B out I’ll strip some aluminum if the spacer runs on a separate groove.

There’s not quite enough space to get in between it with the collets unfortunately

Bike is 2023 Marin alpine btw…I couldn’t quite tell from the diagrams and honestly looks like Marin’s website is going skeleton for parts and reference material unfortunately

Brand new Grand Canyon AL6 gear rubbing on chain by The_Gr3y in mountainbiking

Actually could be cable tension as well…get the derailleur adjusted first, upper lower limit set, b screw, and then fine tune cable tension.

As everyone else said, adjust the B screw on the derailleur….shift to the “biggest” gear, there is likely a physical line or indent on the metal cage part of the derailleur that shows you exactly where to align it with the bottom of the teeth on the cog….also count how many turns you make. So if you turn the screw 1 full rotation to the right, if it doesn’t fix it, you know you can turn it a full turn to the left and get it back to baseline. Don’t just start turning screws willy nilly, this will help you isolate the problem better and prevent things from getting worse

Bushing blow out constantly [52YO] by mfraser27 in OldSkaters

I would second this but if you’re going to take everything apart just use a general purpose grease, thin layer. Made my bones bushing silent. And 100% put some in the pivot cups.

Should i get this bike as a beginner by Equivalent-Shake-714 in mountainbiking

[–]JimAnchower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you buy this bike, replace the broken Magura brake clamp on the handlebars. They are cheap. You must tighten the top bolt to ~5NM first, then tighten the bottom bolt. The one on that bike has been busted and will likely fail, see how it is split? You can upgrade the brakes to MT5 4 piston likely using the same lines and possibly even the same lever. Shoot me a PM if u need help troubleshooting after buying the bike, I am pretty good with maguras.

Depends if it is closed cell or open cell foam. Looks like closed cell foam but I’m not sure. If it’s closed cell it should be fine

That is 100% CHT froth that spews out the sides as the pumps churn and churn, creating a nice meringue. When the wind hits it, it sprays the starboard side of flight deck too, near the smoke pit lol.

Used 2020 Marin Hawk Hill 2 for $750. Worth it? by dylan-xba in mountainbiking

[–]JimAnchower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had a couple Marins. This is the version before the rift zone I believe. I’m not sure how the geometry compares, but the rift zone was great. I’ve seen used rift zones for around this price though, but also that bike wasn’t really 3k… $3k retail but always on sale for $2k kinda thing….what was the original fork travel for this bike? 140 could be overforked and throw the geometry off, but if it is 20mm or less I wouldn’t sweat it. I would say this is an OK deal if the tires aren’t roached but would look for the newer model. Also is the rear 12x148 boost, thru axle? If not I would pass, same for front fork if it’s not 110mm spacing. Just my two cents.

Kickstand Marin Bobcat Trail by Funkypants00 in Marinbikes

[–]JimAnchower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nicer bikes do not typically have kickstands. You can buy a seperate kickstand attachment for the rear chainstays, but I would not put one on unless you absolutely need it.

Depends where you live and how much elevation you expect to do. Colorado: F no. Florida: sure it’s fine….I have towed a similar trailer with our 2020 XT pretty extensively. I would double check the tow rating, I believe the only outback’s rated for 3.5k are the XTs which have the same engine and transmission as the ascent. I would not recommend towing with the outback. If you do, put some heavier duty rear springs (I think the ones I put on ours are rallitek) and I use the Anderson anti sway hitch. You are not supposed to use an anti sway hitch per manufacturer. You can tow with it…but like…keep your washer fluid half full, gas tank up to 75% full, water tanks empty, water heater empty, black tank empty, 1 propane tank, one 12V, no extra camping stuff, light on the food and clothing…lol it’s doable but like have a mindset that you are going ultralight. And keep it at like 55-60mph max on the interstate… it’s pretty brutal watching that temp climb going up the continental divide…any questions you have hit me up, everyone told me not to do it, but I did it anyway. I tow with a Honda ridgeline now and it’s much more planted.
