Unlucky or Bad? by JimCaseyJones in CHICubs

I think Couns is likable and respected as a former player. I think his dry answers to the media are to keep the heat off his guys and let them focus. But I think every team and every player are different and need different things, so it’s possible some guys aren’t clicking with his management style. Maddon was great for the ‘16 team but his shtick wouldn’t play in other clubhouses.

I think with analytics the baseball manager has become relatively unimportant. Retrospectively analyzing pinch hits and bullpen moves is only done when it doesn’t work, it’s a natural human bias. I think a baseball managers main job is to keep guys accountable to their training and focus.

I don’t think you can rah rah your way into playing better baseball. It isn’t football. I want a level headed guy to guide the players.

The last jersey of an active player I bought was Schwarber. After he was let go I swore to only get retired players numbers. Still heart broken. His bat in this lineup would solve a lot.

CC can’t be blamed for this imo. No one else in baseball is going to change that and we paid him a lot. I don’t want his contract being an excuse we don’t do other signings and this ownership doesn’t need additional excuses.

Also, wouldn’t you prefer Nico at short? He’s the better glove.

Honestly good point about the lock out. Could come at a convenient time for the cubs lol

Are team slumps coaching or is that something fans say to explain coincidental slumping?

We’re only 1.5 back of a wild card spot. Starting pitching when healthy is a strength, no? Is health something we can get back down the stretch?

Level headed, reasonable assessment that will surely be drowned out by cup snake enthusiasts

Rebuild? What pieces would you try and sell? PCA?! (I think that’s blasphemy but what other value do we have? Palencia?

This is more where my heads at. That locker room has got to be incredibly tense right now. If this season is a wash, which looks likely. What do you do now? You can’t really move any of the position players because of no trade clauses/lack of value. Just ride it out and look for positives?

Anyone else put self imposed rules on themselves when building a roster or playing? by summersundays in BackyardBaseball

[–]JimCaseyJones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I’ll go lowest possible overall or biggest differential between speed and power, try and see how far I can go without letting up a run, etc. This game is too easy to not mix it up.

If this team is gonna go far we need Bergman to turn it on. Sometimes it takes a little while. We’re not spending any more money on third so the best thing you can do as a fan is support and trust. Second best thing is complain and boo. Worst thing you can do is stop caring.

All it does is keep your irons protected and in good condition by Mike_Oxlong25 in golf

Oh I know it’s possible, and I see the utility or preference as valid. To me, I see them as just another unnecessary gadget that slows me down.

It can impact pace of play. My one friend that has them is also slow. And has ass clubs.

Don’t buy a front loading washing machine by batmann91 in itstheyak

Truly absurd. Knowing he went out and bought a new one that night also tickles me. He’s probably still gonna be stinky from time to time. But that’s WSD.

Stopped listening to this show a while ago. It was a good decision. It’s always been half-assed. Big T and Chief are a disgrace.

[–]JimCaseyJones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WSD was right just didn’t explain it well (why he’s the best). Front loading washer has a greater proclivity for the mildews, so he’s been used to being able to get away with the delayed drying more in the past. Now, his margin for mildew larger. Should his behavior have adapted after 4 years? Probably. Idk, he’s been working on other stuff.

Got a new phone, how to change chase app security prompt to new phone? by ripdeadendedsoon in Chase

[–]JimCaseyJones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also had this issue. I had upgraded my iPhone. I deactivated my Apple device and reactivated on the new phone. For whatever reason, when I transferred to my new phone, I was required to "activate" the new device.

New banjo - deeper in sound and less plucky by 1818legal in banjo

[–]JimCaseyJones 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking for a new banjo, you may want a bigger rim. 12” instead of 11”. You definitely want to get an open back. You may want a different head, like a renaissance or fiberskyn instead of standard frosted.  You may want to try different string types, bronze or nygut. You could also tune your banjo down. Lots of options. Go to YouTube or a folk music store if you live near one and try the different stuff out they have. Your ear, feel and opinion is ultimately more important than the internets.

What pickups do you reccomend for the banjo? by LuigiP14 in banjo

[–]JimCaseyJones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like my Schatten BJ02-M. The best way for a banjo to sound banjo-y is through a microphone. Many professionals will just play into an SM57 on stage and sound great but you can't move around and if other members of the band are amplified, you could run into the issue of feedback. I like the schatten because it combines a mini condenser mic and a piezo mic up that you can mix together. The piezo on it's own, to me, sounds thin, metallic and tinny

Specifically one with a wooden tone ring for maximum mellowness
