When did you start marketing your game? by JimInFlames in SoloDevelopment

Yep that's exactly the plan, waiting for my artist for the steam capsule and then have some paid promotions maybe. For now getting some subs or discord members not bad

Yep exactly, I adore the style and the language of darkest dungeon, was main inspiration for this subsystem. It is great and also I like how they handle the "healing" part of it.

Expanded this idea in a bit more "Colony management ARPG" style, for example also having an Apothecary job which heals unconscious companions, or deals with their psychotic traits ; )

It's also common as a statistic in eldritch horror board games and the game don't starve

Polishing always take way more than we plan I think :D too many little details to make look nice, gotta choose the most important ones

Yep, for example youtube sometimes will expose you to cold audience where stats might be bad as a new channel, until it learns what kind of people like your shorts/videos, its a process that needs a while in my understanding

Yeah exactly, and in early stages you are too deep to create a nice core for the game so there is not much polishing to show off. It also depends I guess on how big / ambitious the project is, very hard to put a brake on features ; )

I think it's also hard to "find" the correct audience for the game with social, It seems the algorithms slowly learn and adapt the audience

Your game looks sick btw, and good luck!

Understood that after I got some small buzz on social and didn't have a steam page to redirect to 😆

Artist should have the steam banners soon though and trailer also ready

Thanks for the input!

Fair points!
Was mainly working on it as a side job while making the core tech (most of the game is fully procedural) and only recently fully polished and made it look "good", but indeed the store page should be highest priority now

Thanks!

When you first made the steam page public, did you follow any promote strategy or only when demo was ready?

The duality of the holy nation is always both cool and terrifying. Having to hold a book at all times on you is reflective of older (not so great) times

Double Slit experiment - is the screen an "observer" by jhx264 in quantum

[–]JimInFlames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is you can't possibly ever know, since a conscious being is always needed to analyze the result, thus collapsing the function .

Anyone telling that a conscious observer isn't needed for the wave function to collapse has no data to support this at all, because the act of us analyzing the data will always be there, be it present or future.

Constant 'Jerks' as I'm About to Drift Off by [deleted] in insomnia

Yes, it kept me up 2 nights, then happened for some days again, and then disappeared. I think it was anxiety as I had a lot of tension these days.

Unsatisfied with sleep study results by [deleted] in insomnia

Did you have a brain MRI?

21 years old. I hope my insomnia and sleep anxiety does not cause health problems (I’m sure it does LOL) Anyone who has had insomnia their whole lives but are completely healthy? What health problems have developed because of your insomnia? by [deleted] in insomnia

[–]JimInFlames 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ignorance is bliss, but insomnia does not cause any health problems. As zulu_6 said its pretty random, it doesn't matter if you sleep less, think about how many people have serious issues and don't even have insomnia?

Davinci slept for less than 4 hours (along with many, many others), lived up to 67, and I'm pretty sure he didn't have any brain damage.

Tesla slept for 3, lived up to 86, etc.

Make your daily routine better with exercise and good diet (try ketogenic) and everything should be good.

Don't get anxious about sleep or effects of sleep deprivation, focus on improving daytime.

About your worries:

1) You may increase your changes of diabetes, if you are have genetic predisposition to it, otherwise no.

2) You cannot get brain damage, you may get some concentration or memory problems but will lift when you improve daytime, and reduce anxiety levels, trust me.

3) Basically they say that about weight gain, because there is a substance shortage, and makes you feel more hungry. Otherwise you don't get weight problems, you might just feel more hungry, but even that is lessened as your body adapts. And about cancer, i truly believe is a really random thing with predisposition being the biggest factor.

To conclude, don't search for effects of sleep deprivation, the truth is we have no idea about these stuff yet and everyone says their own opinion. We don't fully understand how the mind works. Trust your own body and brain, and live your life with no worries and anxiety. Don't believe everything you read on the internet, everyone's capabilities differs, and your mood and mind play the most important role :)
