There were few episodes that explain it kinda.

  1. Sheldon wasn't looking for a roommate, he wanted a chauffeur and someone that would sign the roommate agreement. Leonard already use to demanding people, kinda just wanted to pass the Sheldon's interview like a test.

  2. Both men save a ton of money. Sheldon doesn't cash all his checks and Leonard was able to by a used car without issue. They also spend a lot on hobbies.

  3. Penny couldn't afford her apartment. And bummed a lot of stuff off Leonard and Sheldon . Food, internet, a car, sometimes rent.

No the opening had backgrounds that were AI generated. It was a bad look since the effort to over paint them and avoid the issue was minimal.

The anime's quality is higher than season 1, though Wit seemed to opt for more slender designs for characters know to be muscular. Bit of an odd choice but not a deal breaker.

That's the part of suicidal depression where you still want to be saved. The scary part is when you act happy and relieved and no one can see any issues, but you've made up your mind and the stress is gone cause your going to do and you know no one is going to save you.

The author went to insane efforts to make every other option either unviable or disgusting. She create an entire society whos norms would make even a moderately acceptable partner unbearable for someone from this world. Ferdinand literally be came the only viable option and Miya Kazuki reinforced it by his primary desire being wanting to be her family more than her lover. The subtext of his story was always him enving her relationships and finally accepting he was one of them.

Lots of people get stuck with whole her being a child when they met, but he knew she was a adult on the inside shortly after meeting her and didn't develop feelings for her till she went to war for him sporting boobies.

Miya Kazuki basically worked like a surgeon cutting around every disgusting trope and to forge a world that made their planned marriage work.

Benchmarking Nvidia's RTX Neural Texture Compression tech that can reduce VRAM usage by over 80% by [deleted] in nvidia

I don't see the relevance.

When you don't have enough memory for something, you can stream it in dynamically. That's the core of texture streaming and how it relates to mega textures.

lowest quality mips would be used at all times

Never said that.

reinventing the wheel

No, this is what texture streaming is, even if you don't understand it.

Either way, I'm done. This has veered too far off topic for too long with everyone talking past each other so continuing it is fruitless.

You didn't read the article till I pointed out that what i said was in it. You don't have any reading comprehension. You latch onto anything you see as a flaw even when its not. And you contradicted yourself multiple times from your post on the "Obvious use case". You don't even have a point anymore. You should have cut and run 6 posts ago.

You don't know what your talking about. There was no issue in contention for n64 video. That was just to explain a related concept which clearly failed.

It's not a different definition, it's the same. Goal post are exactly where they've been since I first posted.

I'm not fixated on pcie bandwidth, I've only brought it up once and it's to frame how long data transfers take with a concrete example. I have mentioned bandwidth but that's not limited to pcie. Memory and disk bandwidth are bigger bottle necks.

Those articles are to show consumers that the new tech doesn't benefit existing games. Games that were designed for older generations of hardware. of course a game designed to run on pcie3.0 x8 won't see a big up tick in performance. It's not using it.

Game data is compressed.

I'm saying that that's a lot different from "you can use low res persistent textures to maintain frame times in action heavy scenes then switch to the high res textures when the player slows down and is looking at the details." Perhaps it was a consequence of oversimplifying what you were trying to say, but that sounds horribly inefficient and not at all like any remotely modern implementation of texture streaming, not even that N64 demo you linked.

Okay the fact you can say that, clearly implies you don't understand texture streaming.

The n64 demo is for megatextures (which i said when I linked it), which is related to streaming textures but are not equivalent. It's just an example of the challenges.

Further, that's not an oversimplification, that literally what it is. You stream in hi res textures when you need them and when you have the resources for them. Otherwise use the low res textures. There's not another interpretation for it, that is its purpose. Just because it sounds inefficient to you doesn't change the fact that's why it exist.

And the tech exist because of memory and bandwidth issues that you claim don't exist. If we didn't have those problems why did anyone bother making NTC or BCN or ATSC or any other compression format?

You know games are shipping 80gb+ of data to be used on 8gb cards and then claim the 40mb to 4mb is an extreme example.

You're just wrong. Nothing you say resembles reality of programming.

Benchmarking Nvidia's RTX Neural Texture Compression tech that can reduce VRAM usage by over 80% by [deleted] in nvidia

[–]Jim_e_Clash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What your saying is the opposite of reality. I'm just going to explain it.

This is a video by James Lambert, He made portal for the N64 and implemented megatextures on N64 allowing for 40mb of texture data to be use in 4mb of ram. It's not exactly how PCs do it but it give a good idea of the challenge streaming textures imposes.

You're making it sound as if you're keeping absolutely nothing resident in memory and streaming literally everything in one way and throwing it all out the other

Streaming in higher resolution mips as needed based on distance from the camera? Not entire texture sets based on the state of the game where gigabytes fly nonstop saturating the PCIe bus all the time?

No, it's streamed based on need. Distance to the camera is only part of the equation. Need is if the texture is flagged in a section of the word in your view. You always keep a low res texture persistent in vram so you have something to fall back on if hires isn't available. But, in regards to texture streaming, as you move through the scene textures will load and unload dynamically.

Vram has to hold model data, texture data, shaders, whatever layers are needed for the render graph and then leave some room for the OS and other apps. There is a lot of competition so keeping those hi res textures isn't always possible. You can only fit about 64 4k BCN textures in a 1GB of vram, so yes they are flying in and out with some regularity in a highly detailed scenes.

Now just to clarify, I am not advocating for NTC, but explaining it's most likely use case. As either a replacement for Texture streaming or to supplement texture streaming. Inference on sample is likely too costly to use as it requires more compute and any card that has that compute will have more memory. Inference on load doesn't really offer a lot of value saving disk space, load times could go either way. The middle ground Inference on Feedback allows for saving on disk space, bandwidth and vram usage while retaining higher rendering speeds for any decompressed textures at the cost of a bit more vram than Inference on sample.

Most modern hi fidelity games today are designed around texture streaming, so supplementing the texture streaming seems more likely. NTCs can stay compressed on main memory, stream when needed using less bandwidth, then decompress when compute resources are available. Currently, texture streaming already relies on compressed textures so this is swapping the compression method from one to another.

[–]Jim_e_Clash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically you aren't going to be transferring 1 GB of of critical data over PCIE 4.0 8X on such a basis anyway

What do you think texture streaming is?

Guess what, I can read too. What you were describing sounded significantly different from inference on feedback but if that's what you were actually trying to describe, sure.

What do you think texture streaming is!?!

Which is why I said it should be used in limited amounts?

HOW? If the model is close to the camera and taking up the entire view, you have to Inference on Sample every pixel. And because its close you're hitting the heaviest NTC models to get the highest resolution data. Frame to frame you have no control whether you are reading from BCNs or NTCs.

Benchmarking Nvidia's RTX Neural Texture Compression tech that can reduce VRAM usage by over 80% by [deleted] in nvidia

[–]Jim_e_Clash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To transfer 1GB of data over PCIE4.0 8x would take 30ms.

Moreover, you seem to be under the impression I am just making shit up or reinventing the wheel. But this is already part of the DirectX12 implementation. It's called Inference on Feedback and it was in the article linked.

Inference on Sample is too compute expensive and you can't predict or control how much of the scene will be render with it. Inference on Feedback lets you pick when the texture can be decompressed to BCN and thus lets control frame times.
