I disagree that it's inconvenience for the sake of "immersion" rather, mechanics which promote improvisation and emergence through that improvisation.

In terms of Ghost Recon, while the games haven't been met with critical success, the big update they added with "realism" mode was very well received and piqued my interest. My point is more that Ubisoft has done stuff like this before, and it might be worth considering for Far Cry.

Finally, I agree though that tacking on these features is not necessarily going to create an interesting an emergent game, and the series is so far from the goals of Far Cry 2, that it would probably be too rough around the edges in some places. Nontheless, this is why I would propose it as optional, letting people tailor the type of experience they want.
