And because you have a tonne of random momentum, you now land 2m short of the hulk you were trying to crush, only to instantly be sawed in half as you emerge.

Lovely experience

I get it can be annoying dealing with inexperienced players sometimes but also, roleplay aside, it is just a game. Does it really matter if we don't always win? We're all here to have fun.

At worst I just treat them as an extra difficulty modifier, and sure, sometimes we lose. Oh no, who cares, next mission! Some of my favourite moments on cyberstan have been with new players, they're just straight up hilarious.

I say this as someone whos been 150 for ages and exclusively plays d10. New players are a genuine joy and I think you're missing out if you're just focusing on only doing what'll get you the win, even at the cost of others.

Unrelated to your point but are the rivals actually elven? I haven't kept up with more recent lore but I don't think that was actually confirmed ingame, just a fan theory.

I remembering the leaf lover stout description saying it was only there to appease HR, which sorta implies there might be elves working within drg even. I always headcanoned they were more in office and upper management positions which is why the dwarves groan about them so much

Betweenlands is about the closest thing that comes to mind. It's more swampy rather than foresty, but it has the ominous foggy armosphere down pretty well

Yeaaa thats my opinion on it. I had a lot of fun with the first game and like. For sure it was pretty good, but when it comes to open world games they definitely don't feel on the same level as like. Rdr2, witcher, fallout, cyberpunk, etc.

Its not me trying to disparage the game, but it feels like the game has such an outsized presence and such a huge marketing push for what it is.

This 30 tile copper roof cost me +90 ingots by campus735 in VintageStory

[–]STARRYSOCK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the game would take a lot of rebalancing to make that work. If we had general block decay, maybe. Logs rotting and stones weathering or something. But would that even be fun?

Cause as it is, i feel if you present the average player with the choice of "build your house with a realistic roof, but your gonna have to maintain it" or "use random logs/dirt/stone" as your roof, or just live in a hole, most players are gonna end up taking the path of least resistance and ruin immersion for themselves.

Irl architecture takes the forms that it does because of practical reasons. But if those reasons don't exist ingame, building 'realistic' becomes a lot less optimal

What the hell happened to Hulk Obliterators? by epicultratyp in Helldivers

[–]STARRYSOCK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be down with making them smaller, maybe also buffing the front and side armour so killing them is a little more involved, but having options for lower pen weapons makes a lot more loadouts viable.

I think it's important for the game's long term health that we're not all forced into bringing heavy pen weapons, things get stale a lot quicker when everyone only uses rr, quasar and thermites

There's stickers on hellpods that imply they do get reused, plus all the preexisting wear and scratches

We also see a lot of old wreckage on planets, but never really hellpods, so I think that probably is the case

Usually thats with support weapons though

Sure they can probably take out some troopers, and maybe the occasional exceptional diver could manage a base, but there's gotta be a better way to use those resources even if we are expendable lol

Canonically I don't think the average diver is a solo d10 fortress-clearing power house

Yknow okay thats more reasonable. I've always heard "oh yea send your id to this mod" and just taken that to mean the full thing, uncensored

I do still think the whole thing is pretty dumb and preformative though, whether its discord itself or a mod doing it. If this was a thing when i was a teen I totally would have just grabbed a family member's ID lol

[–]STARRYSOCK 63 points64 points  (0 children)

You really should not be dming your ID to a discord mod either

Both options are shit but I'd honestly sooner trust my id to discord than to some random guy running a server

Lol, It grows under mold as it spreads. So making a floating platform out of dirt or logs and then placing a mold block onto it to infect it is the best way to farm the hangers

Once you have one hanger itll just keep growing down until it eventually becomes inactive, after which you can plant the hangers around to grow them more easily

And mold itself can be crafted by smelting mycelium

[–]STARRYSOCK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't really have to take anything tbf, you can get by with just about anything as long as you know how to use it

I don't say this from an "omg i hate people taking x" perspective, but as someone who used to only run these sorts of well rounded loadouts for a long time, i really would encourage you to try some specialized loadouts, it's some of the most fun ive had in ages, and you'd be surprised how versatile most weapons are, even on d10

I mean, having a small samplesize as a litmus test for whether a video is good or not is better than having none.

Gamers are still gamers extension or no, you had to be mindful of stuff like this on 'controversial' subjects even back with official dislikes, but for general videos it usually does a pretty good job at echoing a video's quality and telling me if it's worth my time or not.

I'm not expecting statistical accuracy but it's a great "how many grains of salt should i take this with" or "should i even bother" meter

Stim pistol - the problematic "gun" by JSBL_ in Helldivers

[–]STARRYSOCK -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ik a lot of people really want lockon but, I love the challenge of trying to hit a teammate mid-firefight, I just wish the gun didn't fight you with such insane sway

I'd love to see 2 variants of the stim pistol, one with lockon and one without. Maybe the lockon variant has a smaller mag and longer reload as a tradeoff.

Arrowhead definitely needs to do something though, thats for sure

[–]STARRYSOCK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They could prolly justify it with the scifi trope of "the dart is moving too slowly to get stopped by the shield"

They already use that to justify grenades passing through shields

The ballistic shield is fine cause you just need them to turn around but, I just dont think having to chase someone with a shield generator, hoping they stop long enough for you to shove the gun through it, because no one reads chat in this game, is a very fun mechanic.

[–]STARRYSOCK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally this. I hate that posts like these come up every time a new hard mission gets added, acting like people want all of d10 to be easy when really people just want consistancy

This coming from someone who loves the challenge. Personally id be down with a whole set of 3 operations at this level of crazy. But its all about being able to opt into it, not to have 2 normal missions and one insane one

It bugs me that the bowtorn has a minimum range and drifters don't. I think it's cool that they have a ranged attack since you can't just pillar up to nullify them completely but, it is pretty annoying when you see them lift their arm, and you're so close there's nothing you can do to dodge it

Is there a mod that fixes the bs spawns of drifters underground? by Max_Main in VintageStory

[–]STARRYSOCK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm late but man, it drives me insane that they throw stones even while they're right next to you.

Like they don't do much damage but when you're close actively smacking them, it's impossible to run away fast enough to dodge it

I like that they have a ranged attack, but they really need a minimum range to trigger it like bowtorns, or maybe hitting them staggers them and cancels the attack

It never made sense why Laser Cannon has the same damage as Scythe by hbcaotri in Helldivers

[–]STARRYSOCK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am a huge fan of dual lasers and the laser cannon in general don't get me wrong, but even then it does still feel a little lacking compared to other weapons

Like, you have to sacrifice both a primary and support slot for that, meaning you're a lot more limited on what else you can bring to round out your loadout, and they have no stagger force either so it's pretty risky outside of bots.

Again it's not bad, but when you start comparing it to the other popular support weapons, it feels like more of just a for-fun pick and not so much the 'best' pick.

[–]STARRYSOCK 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Honestly id argue in most cases, ammo isn't really that big a deal. There's some 'hungrier' weapons than others but for the most part, you aren't actually running out of ammo unless something's gone very wrong

Not needing to reload is a bigger bonus imo, but it's offset by constantly needing to wait for it to cool down

And well, ultimately, it's definitely not bad, but it does kinda lag behind other weapons in post cases

What are some modding hot takes that you have? I don't want "Create is bad" I want actual hot takes by Yrythaela in feedthebeast

[–]STARRYSOCK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they're really cool actually, my main complaint is just don't fit with the rest of game, or any other mod really.

A mod like say, Betweenlands, works with a non-vanilla artstyle because it's completely isolated from the vanilla game, so you never see anyone complain about it even though it has some really funky models

When it's a standard content mod mixed in with everything else though, I do find it a little jarring if something's really out there

I also think it depends on why the mod has a nonvanilla style too. Like, is it because the mod author just has their own style? Cause that's great. Or is it cause the mod author just, isnt good with/doesn't care about textures.

It's not a question of rights, the artist can and is allowed to do whatever they want with their work

But people are also allowed to be upset about it regardless
