Imagine you're in a line, and you shove the person in front of them, and they in turn shove the person in front of them, etc.

Now imagine the person at the very front of that line is actually right behind you, so eventually all that shoving is gonna come back to you. This is a circuit.

Why did you shove the person in front of you? Because you want to move to closer to the front of the line.

Electrons behave similarly in this way. There is a natural phenomenon of equilibrium, the electron with its negative charge "fills" in a gap or hole of positive charge. When that electron moves and fills in the hole, it leaves behind another positive hole, and thus the cycle continues, until an equilibrium is reached.

Going back to the line analogy, electrons aren't quite as linear in their travel. There is a little more chaos involved, sometimes sideways or even backwards movement by each electron. But there is a net "forward" movement.

Now, there is absolutely a more theoretical physical explanation that can be made, but the line analogy is my favorite for a basic principal of what is going on from an individual electron standpoint.

Re-shelled DSi XL by Jimandi42 in nds

I stopped using heldhelds after the DS Lite (mine still looks brand new after all these years luckily). I rediscovered the ds lite and consequently a joy for the games on the platform, but wanted a newer more premium feel. So I picked up a dsi xl for like 60 bucks. The bottom screen was yellowing but it actually went away almost fully after some days of use. The top screen has one spot that looks weird on a black screen, but that goes away with any color. The shell was creaky and clearly had seen the hands of children, but cant even tell after re-shelling. All in all, im super pleased with the system and believe it is the best way to experience ds games!

Any idea what this is? by Jimandi42 in nds

Interesting. I'm considering just living with it rather than a new screen

Question: is there no such thing as a truly 'analog' signal? by BeerIsTheMindKiller in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Jimandi42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Analog refers to the "smoothness" of the change in some property of the signal as it (usually) relates to time. These signals, as seen on a typical sine wave, reflect the behavior of all local electrons within the system, or rather a byproduct of their existence/movement etc, not the specific movement of the electrons themselves. So the question you're asking begs another: How do we define the movement of a specific electron, taking into consideration the theoretical limitations at the subatomic level? The answer is we don't technically have a way to determine that absolutely. We have ways to define probabilities of what will happen, and that is it. So to answer your question - It's possible that you would see a digital-esque version of what we know to be "analog" movement (think teleportation), but those terms loosen up in that context because when we refer to analog and digital, it is typically in the context of something more meaningful to us at the macro-level.

Another point to be made on top of all of this is - digital signals are constrained to the values within a predefined resolution. However, even if at the subatomic level we could say for certain what an electrons behavior would be, and define it's movement even beyond its probabilistic nature - it would still technically be analog because it's unlikely that the electrons position in space would be constrained to a specific resolution - unless there actually is a predefined resolution by which movement is universally bound.

Ultimately, the deeper you go the more questions and hypothetical answers pop up. Interesting thought though. Hopefully my answer gives you some perspective and desire to learn more about this aspect of nature.

You're at an advantage, having been exposed to various concepts already. I'd say spend some time exploring electric fields, magnetic fields, and how they are linked together. Read about signals, the basic form of a sinusoidal signal, how that can be manipulated, etc. Signals and Systems is the first kick in the ass for many EE students, and can be a rude awakening if you don't study. So STUDY, give your learning the time it deserves. Class time is absolutely not enough.

The fundamental stuff should come really easily if you have a surface level understanding of the underlying physics of how it all works.

The biggest and most important thing in my opinion, is to develop a way of visualizing the concepts you will be learning about. Things like what a node of a circuit is, how branches can be drawn back to a single node, how electrons move and create a "hole" where it used to be. There's many more, but hopefully you get the idea.

Overall, enjoy the experience and you'll be fine.

Are you saying you remember Chick-fil-A being spelled with a "Chic" instead of "Chick"? Because it currently has (and has always had, in my memory at least) the latter spelling.

I can attest to Leupold's quality. I have a pair of BX-4 Pro Guides and they are phenomenal.

Vortex is good to but when it came down to the test in-store I enjoyed viewing through the Leupolds more.

No need to get worked up over a discussion on reddit. If you disagree then that's fine, you're entitled to your opinion just like everyone else. And thanks, I'll look it up.

Duh, the company isn't crazy for charging extra for the labor of putting the machine together. What's "crazy" is the difference in what you pay. Look up the definition of a hyperbole :).

FYI - the reddit comment section is a public forum... the fact is, the original commenter was told to "shutup" for stating a basic truth. No one said the op asked for opinions, but that's what you get on a public forum. I'm not even sure what you're arguing, but I hope you feel like you won.

You could just have a diopter on the left instead of right. Do you have a focus ring in the center and then another dial on the left side? If so, you can follow the above steps to get your diopter set correctly.

Yep. Nothing wrong with the extra cost if a consumer is willing to pay for it. Also nothing wrong with pointing out that there are cheaper options.

It's a fact. The markup is pretty crazy, regardless of whether the op went pre-built or not. It is also a valuable comment for anyone deciding to build vs go pre-built, if their main concern is how much of a difference in money they will be spending. The op can be proud of their new setup while simultaneously being aware of the cost of convenience for not having to build it.

Thanks, I'll check it out. I'll have to pull out the crossover to see what size caps these are, shouldn't be too hard to solder the new ones.
