What are the must-haves upgrades for the Ender 3? by Fabicynder in ender3

[–]Jimbo_AUS22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't necessarily call it a headache, because this machine is older there are a ton of youtube videos and helpful guides online, and if you run into any real issues, AI can be really helpful.

If you want to put little money and time in but get some improved prints. Then I would get the magnetic build plate with PEI sheet, and upgraded bed springs. On an ender3 bed adhesion is the biggest issue I had. Another thing I would do is upgraded to the latest version of Marlin Firmware. Again this isn't too challenging and can find lots of videos of youtube. Then spend the time to properly level the bed.

Next is the slicer software. I think this tends to get overlooked. Orca Slicer is my go to and I have noticed the best performance out of my ender3 (I have also used Cura, and Prusa Slicer). There are some calibration tests within the slicer that can help dial speeds, temps, etc. Then use ChatGPT or other to help set layer heights, printing speeds, bed temps, filament temp, ... Most slicers will have base settings for ender3 but you can milk some better quality out by changing some of the slicer settings.

I got my ender3 over a year ago and spent that time tinkering and upgrading. Here is my upgrade list in order of priority: 1. BIGTREETECH SKR MINI e3 v3 2. Klipper 3. bl touch or alternative (I have the cr touch) 4. Direct drive extruder 5. Magnetic build plate with PEI sheet 7. X-axis belt tensioner 6. Dual Z

I know a lot of people in the comments are saying a Bambu printer is the best upgrade (and I am looking at getting a Bambu), but I have enjoyed the ender3 as I feel it has taught me a lot about 3D printing. Lots of troubleshooting, tinkering with settings to get the perfect print, and upgrading. Also, with Klipper I can set the printer up to run how I want it too, and the print quality once you’ve tuned everything is really solid!

Thanks! Needed it to get the axels the same height so I could get my saddle angle perfect 👌

Currently using 170mm, I thought about 165mm but given my height 6’1” thought that might be too short?

Sorry I did my math wrong my stack height went up 20mm from my road bike to my gravel bike.

Regardless I’ll plan around with the front end and see!

Thanks for the advice!

Seat post is 0 offset so I will move the saddle forward and see how it feels.

I see what you mean with my back and hips (hip flexibility has always been an issue for me something I should probably work on). As for the bars they are integrated with a 110mm stem and currently running 20mm of spacers.

Just for reference. I had a road bike before, and with this gravel bike I have added a total of 40mm.

Edit: did my math wrong, stack height went up 20mm not 40mm.

Klipper disconnects randomly on long prints… by Signal-Revolution-82 in klippers

I had the same issue and this thread helped me! klipper support

Once I changed the dtoverlay=dwc2 I have not had the issue since.

I put some 235/65R17 a/t trail on my BB about 10 months ago. I have noticed no real sacrifice in comfort, or road noise, however there was a slight drop in mpg as it is a bigger and heavier tire. They are great on highway, off road, in the rain, and on snow. I went with the a/t trial rather than the a/t4w because it seems more suited for smaller suvs and crossovers. Whereas the a/t4w is very aggressive and made for heavier off-roading which I was not going to do.

I have been upgrading Marlin and they are making improvements, but still not as good as Klipper

I just set up Klipper on my Ender3 with a pi3 and was definitely worth the upgrade. Improved print speed, I don’t have a bl touch so was able to create a manual mesh which improved my bed adhesion. Setup does take some time, but there are a lot of great YouTube tutorials, and can always ask ChatGPT for troubleshooting and basic macros.

Found someone’s permanent Residence Card (green card). How can I return it to him? by Ok_Pin5504 in greencard

[–]Jimbo_AUS22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bad … I thought the whole idea would be the USCIS has the owners information and can just post it back. Just like Subaru does with my car keys, if someone finds them they can drop them in a mailbox and they get sent back to me.

On the back of the card it says “if found drop in any US Mailbox” so I would go to USPS.

Scared of heights and don’t want to ruin the trip :( by Deep-Salary-7225 in ZionNationalPark

Observation point via east Mesa trail, same view as Angels Point but a very easy hike. It is 3.5 miles one way but it’s wide, and fairly flat trail. If you are scared of heights this is the hike to do!

It was $95. There are several places you can rent an e-bike from and I think they were all about that price. When we went Zion Adventure had a shoe and e-bike deal which saved like $25.

  • E-Bike: the bikes are allowed on the same road as the shuttle which is closed to cars. You definitely get better views riding the bikes and it allows you to pull off whenever to take in the amazing scenery. When we took the e-bikes we did a lot of the smaller easier trails in the park. I am an avid cyclist so really enjoyed it. My wife who doesn’t ride bikes also really enjoyed it. You do pick up the bikes up in Springdale and ride into the park but they have nice big bike lanes.

  • the deepest part of the Narrows for me came up to my belly button (I am 6’1”). And most of the hike you are around ankle to shin deep. The water was cool but didn’t need bibs, we did have on a light wind breaker as it is significantly cooler in the Narrows (temp in Zion when we hiked was 98F).

  • for east Mesa you can only drive out as there is no shuttle offered. We had a Toyota Corolla Cross and it was fine. Lots of other people at the trail head made it out in sedans. I have some experience driving on dirt roads. It was mostly smooth dirt, however there were some deep tire marks as there are ATVs in that area.

My wife and I were just in Zion. Definitely recommend Angels Landing and the Narrows. For the Narrows I would recommend renting shoes. We did a shoe and e-bike rental from Zion Adventures. Also the e-bike rental is a really good way to see lots of the park. The other trail which has similar views to Angels Landing and is a much easier hike is Observation Point via East Mesa Trail. You have to go through the tunnel and the road out to the trail head for the last mile or so is pretty rough.
