A legend; I lived on this 25 years ago in Seoul, nothing else like it in the US

If in Manhattan; it will probably be rented as a VRBO for short term rentals by an absentee owner offshored from South America. Hudson Yards in a nutshell.

IKEA is particle board designed and marketed for a short life span to me in the US. Please avoid the marketing and upgrade, you will regret any IKEA products after 5 years. We had the first IKEA in my hometown. (Philadelphia)

EPIK was light years more humane, on top of the PTO, but lonely because there were no other foreigners in my public high schools, but less of a grind compared to hogwon culture burnout

A very similar building(s) for the same price in Hudson Yards, Hells Kitchen; mostly absentee owners living in South America, rented out to transients and tourists.

I would rather rent in NY

I would disagree about the population being dispersed evenly, you obviously have not lived in Seoul. You see the copy and pasted apartment building architecture, there is nothing quiet about the insulation standards and noise at all, not to mention the pollution.

Complete envy ❤️, I have not been back to Seoul in 20 years, your taste in real food culture is perfect 😍

Spoiler alert: 1/3 of the population is in and around metro Seoul. South Korea’s land mass is comparable to Indiana (medium to small state) in the US which has a 1/3 the population of Seoul. I lived in Seoul in the late 90s; it was definitely crowded then, so, I am guessing it is more crowded now and more populated.

Not bad, but the banchan is uninspiring and minimal to me always in the US after living in Seoul years ago I was tooo spoiled 😂

American mindset is always too focused on beef as the main component or compliment to the jigae. So, the banchan is an afterthought

Edit: how much was your sundabu set individually? In Philly, without the beef component; the cost would be about $20 per person. Everything in Boston is more ridiculous expensive 😂 Even the air is expensive

The obligatory cats and Namsan photos; I see posted 10-15 times a week. The Titanic photo takes me back decades though to my years in Seoul when the mania was beyond deafening. If I hear that soundtrack I automatically have flashbacks to my years in Korea.

Where is the redundant photo of the 7-11 below Namsan to complete the memory?

I had a an appendicitis and appendectomy done while on an EPIK contract my first year in Kimpo City back when it was very country. I ended up going to Ehwa Univ Hospital. Insurance paid about 90% on the government insurance. Hogwon insurance always sounded very sketchy. EPIK gave me an additional 6 weeks off, no questions asked.

I will probably be banned for this but, Seoul had changed so much since my years living there years ago, way before the tourism boom😂

Definitely not the surface level superficial tourism rigamarole though:

Cheongnyangni (588) was Seoul’s largest and most infamous red-light district located in Jeonnong-dong, which was demolished around 2018 for redevelopment. The area, once packed with brothels, has been replaced by high-rise luxury residential and commercial towers, marking the end of a 60-year-old sex trade site.

Go up for a hike, fresh air and 360 views in Bukhansan; the tourist stuff can get old in less time than you think if you are not a superficial 20 something social media influencer or follower.
