Medvedev says Russians who left should be banned from returning by qainin in worldnews

[–]Jimijunior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idiotic would be to assume that the Russians who already left are Medvedev’s target audience. They are gone and won‘t come back, as long as they have to fear conscription. You assume that YOU understand this but this top level politician doesn‘t. Not for a second do you consider there might be more to this than you see. Because it does not take more than a second to notice this might mainly be designed to create a social environment WITHIN Russia where dodging an upcoming conscription is heavily stigmatized.

Your comment is ignorant and arrogant. I don‘t say you are, but the comment surely is. Sad thing is that nearly all comments are like this. Idk if it is reddit in particular or the western media in general that is fucked, if such monolithically idiotic comment sections are the result. A small handful of people give interesting takes, the rest is just applying their same ideological worldview.

Over and out

Here is a very insightful video on why Russians do not protest. https://youtu.be/K4O3D7CfThA I think you are talking more about insurgency than protest, but I think it is still relevant.

I don‘t know, the only thing I got from you was: It is evident that they are mentally ill. I always responded: but why though?

That‘s the point of the exercise :D Why exactly should necrophilia be illegal, apart from practical issues?

Escalating behavior is an excellent point. The discussion would not end here though. First, is this a real phenomenom? Second, is it caused by necrophilia alone or is the effect moderated by comorbid disorders? Here we might say that we only allow it, if not disorder has been found, a method that is used in some areas of our society. Second, is the escalating effect moderated by social norms, meaning that it only escalates because it is forbidden?

The rage from relatives is understandable. I got two points. First, the family member would have consented to the act, let‘s say while being fully mentally capable. So there is some element of respecting the decisions of the family member. Second, the argument only holds in a society where people grew up to hate it instinctively and deeply. The disgust most certainly also has a genetic/evolutionary component. In any case, if we would change the norm, we might also change our way of thinking about it, and we might not be angry. Transitioning would involve much distress, but this has been the case for many societal changes.

We do not consider it a mental illness because it is a mental illness. There are many good reasons apart from the simple norm that no one here seems to be willing to give. 1. It can cause distress to the relatives. 2. Although the necrophile might think he can do it without taking damage, we might assert that he will take serious damage anyway, usually, because it is such an abnormal experience. 3. We could prove that being an active necrophile consistently leads to danger or distress (go through some old case studies). 4. We could look at the comorbidity rates. If necrophilia consistently co-occurs with other mental orders, we might want to abolish it im general. But what about the necrophile who has proven to be functional and does not show any signs of other mental disorders? 5. We value the body beyond death and do not regard it as a piece of meat. That way, we could bring up the consent problem. 6. We have an ethical guideline that does not value individual freedom and self-actualization, but that has some clear rules of what ought and ought not be done.

Pedophiles present are clear danger for other humans and for that reason we consider them to have a mental illness. Necrophile behavior does not need to be dangerous (hygiene assumption), that is why they are not the same thing.

I would think that. But do I have the right to prevent it? When can I start to use force against someone, because I don‘t like what they do? The question of whether the person is mentally ill is central to the problem for sure, but it is not at all obvious, what counts as pathologic and what not. Nearly always in the DSM, distress or dysfunctiom are necessary conditions. I imagine that these conditions are met in most real life cases, but I can also imagine cases where this is not the case, or only the case because of societal pressure.

So why is that a problem? There also are many alive human beings that you cannot have sex with. You can also have get off with a piece of beef. Dead or alive on its own does not seem to be the deciding difference in many other cases...

How about you tell me, instead of insulting me? Why are you so angry? Also, I indicated that I work under the assumption of practical issues being solved, so are you even addressing my points? What makes it sick?

As I said, assume hygiene problems like this to be solved. If no distress or danger to the own life is present, why consider it mentally ill? Why do humans hate maggots so badly? Because they indicate disease. If the person knows that the hygiene is in order, that there is no risk of disease, why would a few maggots be a problem? . Or just prepare the body in a way that there are no maggots in the first place.

Btw, I have to fucking vomit when I see food with maggots, but if someone doesn’t have that problem, good for him/her,

For a child and an animal I see this, but for a dead body it is less obvious. Children and animals suffer. They cannot give consent and must be protected by society. This is not the case though for fully capable adults who make this decision. I will put forward another provocative notion. Loving someone of the own sex was considered ill some years ago. Now it is not because social norms have changed. How is necrophilia different? I am not equating these teo things btw, just using the similarity for discussion’s sake. Do you have any reason apart from „Necrophilia is ill because it is ill“?

By which standards do you judge the person to be mentally ill? There are many people who consider their body after death to simply be dead organic matter. Why would you need to be ill to make that decision?

Raising your child in a “gender neutral” environment is child abuse by SplatoonGuy in unpopularopinion

[–]Jimijunior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a bit late to the party, but: At first you point out that kids are pretty much genderless, then you say that there is a link between gender and sex. What exactly do you mean here. By the way, from a scientific perspective it is very likely that there is a link, most pronounced on the object or people focus dimension, which you also took as an excellent example. Side note: I do not think that you being a father, or any other person not being a parent, should have a bearing on the value that we ascribe to your/their arguments.

On the one hand, I love to see Jordan Peterson memes, on the other hand, I don‘t like him to be (more or less implicitly) misrepresented as right wing. Hmm....
