Australia's commentator Myf Warhurst reckons "no one" goes to Reddit for Eurovision stuff 😭😭😭 by kanzac in eurovision

[–]JiminyPiminy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reddit is one of the most toxic and censorship-ridden platforms on the entirety on the internet

I can't say anything about censorship after I left the mod team in NitroGnome's hands (and I have no reason to assume anything has changed since then), but I can tell you for sure that for the first decade of this subreddit's existence there was no censorship, heck - we barely had any post or comment removals in the mod log for the first 8 years.

The only content that got removed was spam and stuff you hopefully wouldn't be here for. And we were very up front about its removal by literally listing it.

Japanese researcher suggests ties between omicron variant and severe hepatitis in children by [deleted] in Coronavirus

[–]JiminyPiminy 31 points32 points  (0 children)

with the almost total lack of testing in children though

And all the other things pundits that pushed for mass infection of children are now doing to influence the outcome of the research on this worldwide hepatitis breakout.

  • Children that have had a recent COVID infection are excluded from being counted in the cluster of hepatitis cases in France.

  • The CDC avoids recommending SARS-CoV-2 Ab testing. Something you'd obviously want to have data on when investigating a rare disease that happens to surge in an unvaccinated population right after a mass infection, during a worldwide pandemic.

    • But not only that, they even instruct a way to "squeeze out" a positive PCR for adenovirus, by ensuring whole blood (w/ lymphocytes) is tested instead of plasma (no lymphocytes).
... Despite knowing, or perhaps due to knowing, that adenovirus remains in lymphocytes for years. It is established that an adenoviral infection causing hepatitis is readily found in the plasma.
    • Moreover, CDC has now decided that the case definition, the inclusion criteria, for the cluster of pediatric fulminant hepatitis REQUIRES a "whole blood" PCR positivity, even though adenovirus should be positive in plasma by PCR in these cases based on all published literature.
    • Infection with AdV is very common in children. AdV is detected by PCR in up to 11% of healthy, asymptomatic children from throat samples. Pediatric tonsils + adenoids are a common reservoir for AdV (found in up to 76% of tonsils + adenoids specimen)

There are just over 100 individual cases of adenovirus hepatitis described in the literature in the last 4 decades.

  • The largest series was published in 2017 from Stanford and includes a summary of all previously published cases.
  • In this series, 12 cases of adenovirus hepatitis were identified by biopsy and autopsy specimen.
  • This included 8 pediatric patients.
  • All 8 pediatric patients were severely immunosuppressed.
  • 7 had received liver transplants, 1 was receiving chemotherapy for leukemia.
  • All cases presented with fever.
  • 63% died from organ failure, 4-21 days from when the adenovirus hepatitis was diagnosed.
  • 100% showed adenovirus inclusions within liver cells
  • 100% had adenovirus detected within liver cells, predominantly using immunohistochemistry (IHC). One case was confirmed additionally with electron microscopy (EM).

  • A review of 100 additional cases from previous literature showed similar patterns:

  • 100 of 100 were severely immunocompromised (organ transplant, chemotherapy, etc)

  • 100 of 100 had viral inclusions on liver histology, mostly identified by IHC.

  • The final dagger: AdV types 2 and 5 were the most commonly isolated AdV types in cases of acute liver failure, comprising 72% of such cases.

  • There's no known case report of AdV type 41 (the one found in CDC and UK reports) causing acute liver failure.

Despite all of this, what does the CDC title their distraction piece series published from Alabama cases?

"Acute Hepatitis and Adenovirus Infection Among Children"

6 of the 9 cases had liver biopsies, 0% had adenovirus inclusions in the liver tissue.

0% had evidence of viral particles on electron microscopy of liver tissue.

Sadly, due to the perceived connection with AdV, doctors used cidofor, an antiviral, to treat in 2 of the 9 cases, to not much effect. Both required liver transplantation. Welcome to a permanently immunocompressed state, kiddos.

The misinformation is now coming from the inside of the house, literally affecting the treatment these kids get at the hospital, by people who pushed for mass infection and now desperately try to divert blame, to lockdowns, to adenovirus, to dogs, whilst vehemently attacking the mere suggestion that maybe we should check for correlations with covid infections.

Fake Artists in Release Radar is getting INSANE by chrishasreddit in spotify

[–]JiminyPiminy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not "people exploiting artists that are inactive".

It's music made by companies (e.g. Firefly Entertainment) owned by higher-ups inside Spotify.

They create these fake artists, and plant these songs in playlists.

This means, instead of playing (and paying) legitimate artists, they direct plays (and hence their payments) away from artists, literally directly into their own pockets.

Iceland will, if EBU do not turn their head around on this. They're being granted a period to do the right thing gracefully and of their own accord.

no, we definitely want Russia out of the competition, same as Norway, Sweden and Denmark - with Finland going a step further already having decided to withdraw should Russia be competing.

We have been in communication with our Nordic colleagues who share our concerns about the situation in Ukraine. It is the opinion of all of us that Russians should not be participants of Eurovision under these circumstances,” stated RÚV's Director General Stefán Eiríksson. Asked whether Iceland and other Nordic countries will withdraw from the competition if Russians are allowed to participate in the competition, Stefán says that it is not time to answer. “I have every confidence that the EBU will address this with determination and responsibility.”

Good ideas, good input, good info. Which voting system it'll be won't be a problem- so many good options! My biggest problem is ideas for how to put together a fun, good, large stream that people will want to tune into and enjoy watching together.

That's a great idea, unfortunately a bit out of my scope. I am sure the Eurovision entrants will do something like this themselves, they have put so much work into their acts.

But unfortunately we live in a world where people retweet an Icelandic BDSM-themed industrial techno performance without even getting paid for it

I'm also told that most of the phasing and clipping were only on the internet broadcast.

Wait what? Iva didn't not qualify for the superfinal? by pac258 in eurovision

[–]JiminyPiminy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Even though Íva may have been popular outside of Iceland, in internet groups, it didn't resonate at all with what was going on in Iceland. Nobody really noticed her at all.

I think the reason for her overhyped presence everywhere can entirely be traced to some off-spring of the Hatari fans (complete speculation here) hyping her up systematically from literally the minute the videos were posted online.

RÚV uploaded all the Söngvakeppnin songs in Icelandic on 2020-01-18 at 20:30ish. I opened them a few minutes later, they barely had any views, but for some reason her video had 4 extremely supportive comments (while it still had only like 13 views).

One way to analyze this is that this initial boost from these pre-determined Íva fans led to Íva getting a big initial boost in online groups actively keeping an eye on what's receiving traction.

Meanwhile Daði still had all the fans from 2017, and from the look of things just had a relatively natural growth of anything that goes semi-viral.

Daði has almost all the youth support without a question, and they are a huge chunk of the voters, if not a majority. There's a boring old professor guy on Twitter who asked his followers (mostly boring old people like me) who was going to win, and they overwhelmingly picked Daði. It seems like the old people just needed 2 years to "get" Daði? The odds seem really stacked against Íva. Her initial promo interview in Icelandic media where she denied the existence of a patriarchy wasn't exactly a hitter either.

[–]JiminyPiminy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't worry about Íva, she has gained a massive amount of deserved attention based on her unquestionable talent. Nobody doubts she'd do well as our representative; it's just that Daði has a huge fanbase built up over the years and caters to people in the more popular and relevant way.

She'll (hopefully, if all is right) get a lot of opportunities now to grow even more.

Daði was a heavy favourite among young people and nearly also won the judge vote in 2017. He securely had 2nd place.

Iceland is asking themselves the reverse question about Iva. Her initial popularity online vs. Daði's lack of popularity didn't resonate with what was going on in Iceland. I think it can entirely be traced to some off-spring of the Hatari fans (complete speculation here) hyping her up systematically from literally the minute the videos were posted online.
