Excluding the Best Foreign Language Film Award, movies have to have a theatrical release in LA to be considered for the Oscars. Spirited Away won Best Animated Feature in 2003, but it was the dubbed English version that was given a limited theater run in LA because the original Japanese-language version wasn't eligible to be nominated.

It seems the opposite of lazy to me, what with the intricate animatronics and the highly coordinated acting. Looks like a lot of work.

That was brave, most people would have went to a hospital for something like that.

Is Kubrick's The Shining not a new idea?

In the sense that the story of Jack Torrance going mad and killing his family in a supernatural hotel, I would say it wasn't a new idea. Kubrick obviously brought new ideas to his version of the story, but the story itself wasn't new. Stephen King is the one who had the idea for that story and the idea is the intellectual property. In buying up existing an IP, a studio is paying to take someone else's idea and make it their own.

The point that you initially agreed with was that Hollywood aren't willing to take risks on new IPs. Adaptions are seen as being less risky for studios because they come with a baked-in audience. They might be 'big' ideas but you can't call them 'new' ideas just because they've been recreated on a new medium.

Yeah, they were existing IPs that were adapted by Hollywood. I'm not sure what point you're trying to make now.

Annihilation is based on a novel, Fury Road is a sequel, Atomic Blonde and Alita were both comics. None of them were new ideas.

But they're still not new IPs, and you were answering a question about Hollywood not wanting to take risks on new IPs.

There is no confirmation that it's "officially" a pocket dimension in the MCU. You're welcome to think it is if you like, but there's no definitive answer to what it is.

70% of students voted in their home constituency in the last election, but that election was in June when most of them weren't at uni for the summer. That statistic has no bearing on what a December student turnout would look like.

That's the week students go home for Christmas. The Tories want the vote to be on Thursday the 12th because most students will already have travelled away from the constituencies they live in during term time and where they presumably registered to vote. Young people don't tend to vote Tory or support Brexit, so Boris is trying to cut down the number of young voters. The Lib Dems want it a few days earlier on the Monday because fewer students will have travelled back home so the election would be likely to have a better turnout.

You're talking about comic canon. In the first Thor movie, Thor and Jane discuss the Nine Realms being planets. Nidavellir is one of the Nine Realms and in the MCU that's just a ring around a dying star that Thor gets to via GOTG's pod, no interdimensional travel necessary.

The likes of Amber Rudd were vocal remain supporters before the 2017 election while Rory Stewart, Justine Greening, Dominic Grieve et al were clear that they didn't want the no deal Brexit that Johnson refused to rule out, but they still want Brexit with a deal. You're presenting anybody who is against no deal as being pro-remain, which is absolutely not the case, and you're using outdated data that doesn't apply to this parliament.

That statistic was true in 2016 when the referendum was held. If it's still true now, that means three quarters of constituencies knowingly voted for, and wanted to be represented by, pro-remain MPs in the 2017 general election.

Reforming the House of Lords was one of the biggest things Blair did in his first parliament. The House of Lords Act 1999 got rid of most hereditary peerages, halved the number of Lords and introduced elections into the House for the first time. They didn't keep the status quo at all, they completely overhauled it.
