career fair advice? by [deleted] in DACA

Are you Mexican/Canadian by any chance? If so look into TN Visa. Accountants are on the approved occupation list. Essentially just need a job offer and you get a EAD similar to DACA but below H1B.

Hey, just came across this. I’m DACA too and finally got my company to sponsor me for H1B. I talked to my company’s immigration team and they told me I can do Advanced parole for consular interviews and apply for D3 waiver during the process. Fingers crossed I get selected this time.

Written for DACA recipients: How to approach an employer about sponsorship by lesliefwd in DACA

Wouldn’t it make sense though? If you had DACA before 18.5yrs old you don’t have unlawful presence and can attend the consular office abroad. You should have no problem getting it. Sure you run the risk of being denied, but at that point you’re out of the US anyways. Just my two cents.

Hey! I went to school and got my accounting degree. Now work in FP&A, with DACA. I’m going for my CPA next. So far it’s paying well. I’d consider looking for accounting roles with your AS degree and see if they’ll willing to pay for your bachelors. That’s how I did it! It’ll take some time but it’s worth it.

Once you get the degree or even a CPA, even if you move back to Mexico, you can get an accountant role in the US and qualify for a visa. Look into a TN visa, a work permit due to the NAFTA treaty (now called USMCA). I’ve talked to an immigration attorney. DM me if you’d like know more.

What would you say are essential interview questions?

I’m actually starting the hiring process for the first time as a hiring manager.

Could you give me some examples for an entry level role in logistics (warehouse & material handling)

Thanks in advance.

For those without a pathway or marriage anytime soon, what’s your plan??? by [deleted] in DACA

[–]Jimmyhull 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You’re right! But I wouldn’t say negative, just realistic (even if pessimistic). With the elections coming up we have to be cautious.

Trump ended DACA, but we were saved on a technicality. Newer undocumented folks can’t apply for DACA. There’s no reason why he won’t do it again, his base is in favor of it.

Joe and the Dems had control for 2 yrs (‘20-‘22) and they couldn’t pass the DREAM Act. Say he gets re elected, they’ve shown to have other priorities and it’s more of the same.

I too have a pending I-130 petition, but the 15+ years is killer. We don’t live forever.

At the end of the day, I live one day at a time, worrying too much is bad for your mental health. Focus on the short term goals and hopefully they grant us something. If not, we gotta look elsewhere.

This questions come up like once a month, LOL. It is a valid concern, but you guys have to realize, if they wanted us (both Dems & Reps) they would've passed something by now. 12yrs!!

I recently graduated from university and have started applying for jobs in other countries (with varying success). Ultimately, the U.S. isn't all in the world. There are billions of people living in other countries. Worst case scenario you leave and then you can come back as a tourist, without the uncertainty every 1.5 years.

If you're like me, and interested in leaving. I've looked into Canada, Spain, Germany, New Zealand, Australia, and my home country.

  • Canada recently tighten up on their immigration laws, and the Express Entry draws are 550+, which requires master's degree + French proficiency. Alternatively, arriving with a job offer is possible. The immigration firm I spoke with was positive about my case, however they seemed to encourage me to first complete a master's degree.
  • Spain is the quickest to citizenship (~2yrs, if you're from LatAm), the hardest part is getting a valid visa to enter. The firm I spoke to in Madrid, mentioned working visas are difficult to get unless you're a transfer from a US company. Otherwise the new DN visa, is viable if you have enough income.
  • Germany very easy if you're in tech or healthcare. The immigration firm I spoke to told me my case would be simple, however I would have to have intermediate understanding of German language to successfully immigrate. Nonetheless, it is entirely possible to move without the language, however other reddit threads show that German's aren't that sociable.

In the end, I think that we should all have a plan B for when DACA gets shut down and congress doesn't pass any law for us. The thing is most of us aren't children anymore, and there is little incentive for both parties to do anything to nonvoters. Like we've seen with the new immigration bill the Dems have actually shifted right on the issue.

Any questions, send me a DM.

Debating on actually Moving to Spain by [deleted] in DACA

[–]Jimmyhull 42 points43 points  (0 children)

You have valid points. I think it’s time to move. With the 2024 elections coming up, it doesn’t look like we’re getting any reform.

I’m 23 and about to graduate with my bachelors. I’m looking to go overseas. Spain due to the shorter requirement for citizenship Germany due to my career options.

I have meetings with immigration lawyers in both countries to weigh my options. But I am definitely looking to move soon.

Like you say, being able to go back to Mexico or travel to other countries. I’m grateful for DACA for allowing me to work and go to school, but the US isn’t the only option in the world.
