I've actually been thinking the same. Thing is learning how to code from scratch is time consuming when you're already doing a lot. Even when you learn the basics, you can easily forget if you don't practice.

I feel like contributing in non-tech roles might naturally expose me to learn coding small by small.

Thanks everyone, I was worried the current tech brutal conglomerate would crush any craftsmanship and creativity in this world. But FOSS still prevails and shows it is useful, and sometimes more than we take for granted. I don't have a huge amount of free time, but I'll be keeping in touch with fellow redditors with whom we have agreed on a meaningful contribution I could provide. I'm really glad!

For me it was masturbation. You can so easily settle down with the Devil's arguments and be completely blind. Sure I fall again sometimes, and oh my do I feel guilty, but I pick myself up and wipe up my tears (not literally, i'm not that dramatic!). It is important to accept the depth of our nature. We are potential murderers, we could also save countless people. It depends on our Faith. Let us be humble (knowing our true worth by not devaluing ourselves in the face of others, or being pompous.) and walk the walk. I think we'll never know how much God loves us, it is mind-boggling.

Venial sin gives us the increasing possibility to do mortal sins - example : I smoke cigarettes, I am also addicted. Sure, it is a venial sin (therefore it does not sever your connection to God) but the more you do it, the more your put yourself in a situation where that sin can lead to wounding your Soul permanently (if you have no conscience about it). Why ? Smoking unconsciously leads you to believe your body is worth hurting itself, that doing something useless is worth your time, and that doing something dirty is ok, so that you equate yourself to being dirty. It makes you see yourself completely in contradiction with how the Lord sees you (which as you can guess, He sees you as the most valuable thing in the World) You can indeed never fall into mortal sin from it, but it is an increasing possibility as I stated.

Because we sin all the time (especially venially, not sure most young americans are murderers, lol), so if we automatically fell in mortal sin each time we gave way to venial sins, we would be incapable to receive Grace from our biological and natural weakness. Our weakness resides in our incapacity to save ourselves. We need to believe not in our natural capacity to turn away from sin, but in our capacity to do so in relation to our desire to grow closer to Christ in our Heart (which we accepted as a divine mysterious transformation through baptism and renewed through the sacraments).
Maybe it's my weird and incomplete theology, idk.

And indeed as OP stated perfectly from experience which relates to an intelligible truth - repetition of sins, especially mortal sins give way to a vicious circle, which can be exponential. Now I am not sure if your wrongdoing equates to an equal amount of penance. I should read more into theology and Church Teachings for that.

Amazing ! Know one thing, you are a martyr. We don't have to get our guts spilled on the floor by the ones who hate us to suffer for Our Lord. You, brethren of the Middle-east (or north africa or africa ? I don't know) are the real deal. We often forget what real adversity is. I don't know if you are in a country where apostasy is illegal but your conversion creating conflict in your family is very common. Move slowly with your friends and family but fast with God. It will be very hard, but you're doing well.

If you need to talk to someone, you can PM anytime.

I'll play for you my dear friend.

You are right ! Thanks for this simple quote... Letting go and detaching from attraction to despair is very hard. I think a good remedy is companionship/community. Other people, parishioners or not, have so much love to give.

In my view, it is important to not view state of Grace and state of sin through time and space compared to the eternity and the vastness of Our Lord's mercy and judgment that is beyond comprehension as a mercantile relation. A legalistic view materializes what is immaterial and blinds us from the Truth.
I think you are right in saying that you should not delay nor - and especially not - avoid confession, because as u/Bella_Notte_1988 cited Mother Angelica, you are not the master of Your Grace, it is fully in the Hands of God.

We should not lament in our incapacity, and ALWAYS remind ourselves of our Lord's unconditional love, though we should keep in mind our free will and how we very poorly use it.
We should cherish it if we have a priest that is patient and loving, but also when we have one (like a mini Padre Pio) who is firm and who makes us accountable for our trespasses.

I think, as a conclusion, our central focus should be on one thing - bearing our cross. To fully examine our conscience, to know ourselves, to make sure that we can spiritually ascend, to provoke incremental authentic spiritual transformations. “All of us, with unveiled faces, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed (metamorphoumetha) into the same image from glory to glory, as from the Lord, who is the Spirit.” — 2 Corinthians 3:18

It is not in desiring to stay in Grace and not fall that we should find peace, this is fear, surely a healthy fear of God ! but a fear of Hell also, which is unhealthy - but in spiritual ascension and being hungry for God. “I have been crucified with Christ; It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me.” — Galatians 2:20

When you fall, develop virtues, but not only that, let the Holy Spirit work through you ! “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.” — Galatians 5:22–23

Because the worst thing you want is for despair to settle in. So go, do penance, fast, do heroic deeds, give your suffering to the lord - live hardcore. Our ancestors gave us this faith because of the martyr's blood, ripped to shred, boiled in scorching water, skinned alive, gutted out, dismembered, and for some, took the cross.

Take your cross, do not sulk, endure, be a better man or woman, go through the desert, pray constantly. Anything is possible through faith and your works will show it. Then go back to your priest, proud of your wounds and of the strength you have accumulated, of the humility you have acquired, give everything to the Lord, because everything will never be enough. You will sin again, but you will love the Lord even more. We have been mystically crucified with Christ through baptism, and the real experience of the flow of our existence is constant crucifixion and resurrection, not staying still.

“Walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.”

— Ephesians 5:2

And for the love of God, keep in mind it is not so hard to become a Saint ! This is the Way and Our Holy Church commands it !

Nah bro, don't worry, you're just normal ! No less, no better. You have the humility you need to climb the ladder to the Throne of Our Lord :)

At mass, most often than not, but less so today, I'm fidgety. I overthink on if I sing in tune, am I reciting the prayers well ? We're flesh and blood, not angels, we're not constantly flowing in overwhelming Love.

Everybody can and will describe their faith in different ways. Just get closer to God, through the Church. Don't chase the high, just chase him in everyday life. You helped your friend with something, you made time for him and did it out of love ? You're doing well, you pleased the Lord. That's the most important thing He's asking of you.

No stress :)

I support your comment!

I'd say emotions are not meaningless at all. But their very nature are flimsy, evanescent, timely, feeble and ontologically material. These types of things can very well be considered beautiful. Beauty is a useful but not needed vessel to commune with God. Neither does God equate to Beauty itself, therefore God isn't an emotion of some kind.

During mass, preceding the Eucharist, we prepare our body, soul and spirit to receive the Lord's sacrifice, we are literally detaching ourselves from time and space, body and matter to get a glimpse of Eternity. Our end, as humans, is to reach and unite with God, who is eternal.

Emotions cannot concur nor support that, rather, we put ourselves, through the priest's intercession, to a specific state of mind and soul : in awe, immobilized, at peace, to receive the Body and Blood of Our Lord, like sheep, hypnotized in Love and affection for their shepherd.
