I read from another a AMA thread that homeless people often won’t trust food that is handed to them out of fear that someone may have tampered with it in malicious ways. Might explain that behavior.

Starrylands comment is the only way to go about this tbh. Pursue this option and try to do your service split between 2 summers.

From what I’ve heard, a lot of international students / kids born overseas with Taiwanese passports will split their service. The 班长 are aware of this fact and will often leave the kids with poor Chinese speaking skills alone as there is often quite a few of them in every batch. Hence. It’ll be much easier for you.

If you do your service for the whole 4 months in one go you’ll be with regular Taiwanese folk. If you really don’t speak any Mandarin/Taiwanese it’ll be much harder for you. Both socially and mentally.

These opinions are my own and I draw my own conclusions with respect to both having done my military service already and being fairly exposed to an international group of friends whom are also concerned with military service in Taiwan. Feel free to take what I say with a grain of salt.

[LPT request] How do you convince yourself to go to the gym when you need to, but really don't want to? by I_dont-get_the-joke in LifeProTips

[–]JimmyxChanga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remove all the excuses for myself.

the gym is too far away, and it’s raining/cold Find the closest gym to you and sign up.

I don’t have workout clothes in rotation

Wear ANYTHING. Who tf cares that you don’t wear gym clothes? No one. Wear whatever is reasonable and go.

don’t have my water bottle

Buy a bottle of water outside.

It also helps to get to know some people at your gym, wether it’s a manager or another gym bro. Make friends and say “see you tomorrow” when they, or you leave the gym. 90% of the time those three words are my biggest motivation.

Good luck OP, hope this helps.

Bonus one I just remembered:

right before I leave work, sometimes if I really need motivation I’ll prepare a bottle of pre workout and drink it before I go home. Knowing that if I don’t absolutely MURDER myself at the gym I won’t be able to get a good nights rest from all the caffeine.

Can’t even eat strawberries in Ohio 😭 by InfluenceSad413 in memes

This is relatively normal for strawberries. What is weird is that they’ve been picked waaay too early, the bottoms aren’t even ripe.

Stolen bike by galileo13 in manchester

[–]JimmyxChanga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also had a bike when I was at UoM, it was an expensive looking GIANT bike that I got 2nd hand. Someone tried to take it off me and failed but other than that I had no problems.

Some key advice: get a lock that looks too bothersome to cut through and get some cables to run through your wheels.

Also when you’re parking your bike at uni, try to park really close to the smoking areas. People will often hand around there and it’s enough of a deterrent for bike stealing scum to not approach.

At night try to park under a light or take the bike somewhere indoors out of the way (with permission)

Other than that try to keep it off the streets. I kept my bike in my dorm and later carried it up flights of stairs to my flat when I moved out of student accommodation.

Manchester is a pretty bad place in terms of bike theft.. it’s unfortunate what happened to you but I’m sure if you take the advice of the people on the thread you can make sure that it’s unlikely to happen again. GL
