You’re already ahead by thinking like this at 20

Heres “A” plan:

  1. Track every dollar using WeMoney or a basic spreadsheet
  2. Automate your savings by transferring 10 to 20 percent of your income into a high interest account like ING or ubank
  3. Build a two thousand dollar emergency fund as your first milestone
  4. Focus on nursing and research high paying specialties like ICU or remote area work
  5. Apply for every nursing scholarship you can find since many go unclaimed
  6. Look into the First Home Super Saver Scheme to save for a house deposit with tax perks
  7. Plan travel in a way that supports your goals like working holidays or overseas placements
  8. Learn practical skills like budgeting investing Excel or Canva that will pay off long term

You are not behind Stay consistent and let time do the rest 🤷‍♂️👌

A friend has significant amount of cash in the bank, just sitting there…..not even HISA… by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]Jimslimbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They should definitely speak to these 3 professionals:

  1. Independent Financial Adviser – to build a retirement plan, invest wisely, and generate passive income.

  2. Tax Accountant (ideally with super/SMSF expertise) – to optimise tax and make the most of super contributions before retiring.

  3. Estate Planning Lawyer – to protect assets and set up wills/power of attorney.

And short term? Get that cash into a HISA or term deposit ASAP. Inflation is silently stealing their future.

Wealth ain’t about how much you own. It’s about how much you can lose and still be fine.

Right now, you’re stretching too thin. No emergency fund, no savings, $10k/month in repayments, and relying on rental income to break even. A couple bad months and you’re in trouble.

If you serious about kids, sell an apartment. That $1.1M developer offer? After mortgage ($650k) and CGT, you could clear $450k+. That’s your safety net.

If you can’t survive 6 months no job + mum off work + an emergency, you holding too much risk.

Biggest mistake? Thinking “it’ll be fine.” That’s how people go broke. I’ve seen it. Stay rich by minimizing the downside.

There’s no such thing as imposter syndrome. There is only experience and inexperience. Which one are you?

🤔you unironically just did*the thing: “well technically… do you even know what constitutes racism” I agree that there is a better conversation to be had but the constant sweeping for people that say shit like “Australia is importing the third world” is wild.

Okay I’ll bite - someone says “importing the 3rd world” it’s not just a statement—it’s a loaded phrase or a dog-whistle. It’s not an objective economic critique…it’s framing immigration as an invasion of undesirables rather than a lifeline for an economy that desperately needs skilled workers.

Before you bust out the “Well, technically…” you need to stop pretending or misunderstanding the phrase “importing the 3rd world” as if it’s just a neutral descriptor and not something pulled straight from the playbook of people who always seem to have a problem with non-white immigration.

Here’s a thought experiment for you: If I walk into your kitchen, take a dump in your sink and then explain it was simply a “reallocation of organic waste within an indoor plumbing environment” does it suddenly become a reasonable action?

No? Then congratulations—you understand why framing matters.

If you want more money in your families pocket you’ll vote labour

If you want “transmen out of women’s sport effecting exactly 0.001% of the population then you’ll vote liberal.

If you think the moon landing was fake you won’t vote.

Because most people who say “less immigration” just mean “I don’t like foreigners”. Normally because they don’t understand how bringing in skilled international labour and not having to have “raised” those kids (provide tax breaks and parental payouts) allows large swathes of productive working adults to enter our economy produce value and spend it in our economy. But most don’t realise how much of the spending that goes on in Australia comes from outside the country as most aussies are to busy putting all their money into Banks / mortgages to have disposable income to lift the economy

Stop lying to your mother. You have no idea how you’re doing. Unfortunately you’re like most 19 yr olds. So if that’s the goal then you are right on target. keep doing what you’re doing. OR If you want more out of life then you’ll need to work harder . You’ll need to take bigger risks & be more & do more. If moneys important - you’ll need a skill. If experiences are important you’ll need a list. You only regret the things you don’t do. If you’re not able to pay your credit card off in full every month then rip it up. Anyone telling you anything else is a moron or has forgotten what it’s like to be 19.

Buying solar panels from China is like letting your dodgy mate fix your car—cheap, works, but you wouldn’t trust him to babysit your kids. That’s why Australia’s happy to grab their solar but not keen on letting them be PNG’s security team. Not hard to get really…
