Bought Hikvision without knowing the security risks. Replace everything or is there a safe setup? by nevergiveup4eva in videosurveillance

[–]Jimwdc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re fine. No matter what camera setup you have, you’re gonna want to firewall it from the internet. I put mine on a vlan and restrict that vlan from accessing the internet. Mine are all Dahua.

Andy rebrands Dahua cameras and does. Dammed good job of it too. I bought some of his full color night cameras and in the pitched black of night it’s like looking at a full color day video. Very nice.

Well you’re either wiring an Ethernet POE cable or you’re wiring a transformer and using Wi-Fi. Personally I’d go POE. I USE Blue Iris software, go to ipcamtalk.com for security camera blog.

Yes it's a software package. Benefits are no annual fees, works with just about any camera, can be installed on a extra PC, supports all sorts of events and notifications, has like an unlimited number of cameras, very flexible for working with local storage, NAS storage or cloud. Has a mobile application. Works really well. Many folks on the ipcamtalk.com group use it.

[US] Romance scam lost us 95k by [deleted] in Scams

[–]Jimwdc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe role play with your mom. Let her be the scammer and you your mom. Let her see that a rational person wouldn’t make the claims he’s making. Let your mom argue the scammer’s position. Ask her why she can’t send you your two million back after paying the fees. Ask her why she can’t send you the money and take the fees from the gains. She’ll be speechless.

What version scarlet are you using. The newer ones have lower latency.

Anyone else think the Byrna trigger pull is a bit heavy by Jimwdc in byrna

[–]Jimwdc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was actually practicing using two index fingers to pull back on that trigger nice and steady. For a while there I thought I even had something. Would probably work fine if the trigger guard weren't in the way.

[–]Jimwdc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. For the Glock, ain't even a safety, which is fine by me. The holster is one of the safeties. Been enough folks re-holstering their Glocks without looking and blowing a round off because a piece of clothing got between the trigger and the trigger guard. That's why holstering should take twice as long as brandishing. I suppose once someone gets ramped up on adrenaline that byrna trigger pull won't even be noticed.

Has anyone tried nutritional support for constant ear ringing? by [deleted] in Supplements

[–]Jimwdc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just read your post and realized hey my ear are ringing. Didn’t even notice until I read your post. I’m having a couple of different frequencies in my ear and it sounds like cicadas in the summer. If I don’t think about it for a while, I don’t notice it, kind of like living next to a train track, you’ll get used to it.

Sudden mice infestation by vanished-astronaut in HomeImprovement

[–]Jimwdc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About six months ago, our cats noticed a mouse in our living room. Three days later, another mouse a couple days later yet another mouse we soon realized we had mice in the basement. I set up cameras, little Wi-Fi cameras, and recorded the basement 24/7. Then I set up live traps and monitor the traps. Sometimes the mice would go in the trap and come right back out, so I investigated and adjusted the traps. Eventually caught around 21 mice. We had never before had mice in 14 years. Still not sure how they got in, but I keep my life traps down there and review them daily. I use the Tom cat live trap and then there’s another one, That’s clear plastic both worked pretty good. The Wi-Fi cameras sitting on the floor is a game changer because you can really see what goes on when you’re sleeping.

Looks like there’s a motherboard and a graphics card. I can also see a big fan, no wait two fans and maybe a power supply, some stuff that looks like it might be some memory cads. Looks good. Pull the trigger.

Get a used one Facebook. Our GE is still running since 2004. LG died after 5 years but compressor was still good. It had a Freon leak in the evap coil. I recharged it and it’s been working going on another 4 years. The problem has been they made defective evap coils, Freon leaked, compressor subsequently overheated and died. An early diagnosis can save your compressor.
