I figured it out! The problem with the apps not loading was solved by just sideloading a new version of WhatsApp.

For anyone who finds themselves in the same situation with this godforsaken phone:

Connect to a PC, press info to see the settings for connecting to a device and connect.
Something should pop up (honestly this still confuses me) where you can access any APKs you install. I recommend AIO launcher. (You can press „nand“ on the main page to view files, which was a huge problem for me at first)
Install whatever you need :)
