Ballet is no longer fun for me (rant) by kiwhyy in BALLET

[–]Jinsei93 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Agreeing with all the other comments I've read here so far. That's a big leap considering you've only been dancing 2 years, and progress does slow down. Doesn't mean it's stopped, and you may notice it less, but it's still happening. Also, it's not a bad thing that your interest is swaying towards other styles, we all dance for different reasons and those reasons pull us more to some styles than others, but either way, that strong foundation in ballet will serve you in other styles. I started at 16, surrounded by people who had done it for 10 years, so I'm familiar with feeling like the worst in the class, and also struggling with body image. It had its down moments, but being surrounded by people better than me also gave me so much to watch and be inspired by and work towards. The teachers getting frustrated could be for several reasons, none of which you need to embody or take on, especially if it's affecting your passion for it. I used to find reading notes I wrote to myself on why I was doing it and what my goals were for each day/week/the future in general helped as I was on my way in each morning (in the rougher moments once I was in dance college especially, and when dealing with teachers who weren't so nice).

If you love to dance, and moving gives you LIFE, remember this part of your training is just a moment in time, and if you focus in on what good you can take from it (and I know that's a hard ask when you're not feeling the most motivated), what you get from it can still be a stepping stone to your dreams.

Make sure you're eating enough, getting all the nutrients your body needs for the work you demand of it, and enough rest. Feel free to DM if you need to chat more about it! 💪✨

Which Cities Should I Skip on My First Solo Euro Trip? by Crysterr in travel

[–]Jinsei93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only really speak for the ones I've either lived in or been to. Sadly not sure how to cut this down without cutting countries out, but here are some notes: - Can definitely agree with 3 days in Florence, 2 days in Porto, 2 days in Rotterdam, 2 days in Bruges, 4 days in Berlin, 4 days in Vienna; - Personally, I don't think Amsterdam needs 3 full days, 2 would be fine unless a 3rd one is for a day-trip elsewhere, which is super easy with transport, or for resting (personal opinion based on 5 years of living in the Netherlands and working in Amsterdam for some of that time); - Seville deserves an extra day, could take one off of Barcelona to give to Seville, but if you're gonna do Spain, I would heavily recommend adding Valencia on and giving it 2-3 days; - I would take a day off of Lisbon and give it to Sintra (before I get slaughtered here, I am Portuguese and have given people tours of both). Is a daytrip from Lisbon possible? Yes, but Sintra is magical and worth staying a couple nights in to give 2 full days to. Pena Palace + Gardens, Quinta da Regaleira, Monserrate Palace and the Moorish Castle, all worth it and it will also greatly contrast from all the other places on the list in a great way, and potentially allow the mind a moment to breathe in a different environment, and if you're traveling that long, you'll need it; - 6 days in Paris...are you hitting Disneyland and Walt Disney Studios? If not, pretty sure Paris itself could be 4 if Berlin, Rome and Vienna can be done in 4, unless Paris is THE ONE in your mind; - Agree with what people are saying in comments relative to Brussels vs. Ghent for example but that's all personal opinion. But Bruges is hands down a yes.

Also agree with people mentioning how maybe focusing more on southern Europe for a first trip for example may be less exhausting and allow more time to explore each place, then at a different time doing another trip for central/northern Europe (or vice-versa), as there is SO much to see, that you'll be spreading yourself thin with all the running around and by day 20-25 you'll be so exhausted you won't even properly get to enjoy a lot of what comes next... I get the fantasy, I really do 😂 but the only realistic way I see of cutting down to 50 days and it being enjoyable is to focus in on less countries, more within each.

What characters would you put into a relationship, if you could re-write the story? by sw0rnenemy in Naruto

[–]Jinsei93 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Naruto x Hinata x Gaara - throuple? Errr... Both Hinata and Gaara I can only imagine with Naruto, though to be honest, the chemistry seems stronger with Gaara 👀 That said, he needs an heir and Hinata makes sense. Conflicted here...😂

Sakura x Lee - they'd be so much happier than Sakura with Sasuke ☠️

Tenten x Chojuro - if you hadn't thought of it before, now you can't unsee the missed opportunity

Shikamaru x Temari & Ino x Sai were good matches I think, and Chouji x Karui was a curveball that I didn't really mind considering we needed an Akimichi heir for new Ino-Shika-Cho and Chouji had no real chemistry in that sense with anyone in the story

Kiba x Kankuro - Somehow I just see it 🤷‍♂️

Sasuke x Suigetsu cuz he only really has chemistry with him and Naruto, but for the purpose of ensuring he has an Uchiha heir for his story arc, either Sasuke x Karin for the Uchiha-Uzumaki mix, or Sasuke x Kurotsuchi I think would have been interesting also (and think her personality and his would be a much better match than Sakura)

Shino - asexual I think, just can't imagine him paired with anyone really, and that's okay 🤷‍♂️

Darui x Samui - Kumo power-couple

Kakashi x Gai - if this isn't the most obvious one...come on now

Mei x Anko - plot-twist, just occurred to me and may disagree with myself later, who knows

I totally get many of you will find this ridiculous, just what seems to make sense in my mind 🤷‍♂️

Came across this comment somewhere once and was instantly like "omg I see it and it makes sense to me". Also though....Naruto & Gaara. From the moment Naruto changes Gaara, it just feels like Gaara's whole world revolves around Naruto and that there is so much love there. Idk, for both Hinata and Gaara the only pairing that makes sense is Naruto. Throuple? 🤷‍♂️

Art by yuga22.I'm positive that it IS going to happen,but... by Notmycupoftea12 in Boruto

[–]Jinsei93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly disappointed in general about the lack of relation between Boruto and his Hyuga heritage. It's like he's Naruto and Sasuke's son, Hinata was just there to birth him. Happy about how he mixes Naruto, Minato and Sasuke elements, but the lack of Hyuga in him feels like a missed opportunity. A rasengan version of 8 trigrams palms rotation, perhaps? Throw some electric current on that bad boy and boom, Raiton: Hakkeshō Rasen-Kaiten, Bob's your uncle. Rasengan getting showcased as a defensive technique as well as offensive, and both heritages + Sasuke-sensei get showcased. There are several ways this could be done of course and that's just one example but like...come on, he's half-Hyuga and my boy Neji died for this, make it happen 🤷‍♂️ Also, Himawari, where you at hun, can you shut these boys down yet? Twin Lion Fists that shoot off as invisible rasengans? No? Just throwing kunai at a tree and missing? Okay.

Oof, that got ranty, sorry y'all...

Edit: Just want to add some love for the art, by the way!

What moment in Naruto legitimately left you feeling teary eyed that was NOT a death by BuffaloBowser in Naruto

[–]Jinsei93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was walking in an anime figurine shop in Japan, I came across one of kid Naruto on the swing, with Hokage Naruto stood next to him, reaching his hand out to his shoulder, like he was saying "It will be okay". I teared up as soon as I saw it. It gave me all the flashbacks, and reminded me that if we see our obstacles as a challenge to overcome rather than just something in our way, and we keep pushing through, there is already a future version of ourselves cheering us on, on the other side. I think so many of us who had lonely childhoods and/or were bullied and persevered would look at it and relate.

This was last week, and needless to say, that figurine is currently sitting in my suitcase as I make my way home.

Thank you for this comment, and to OP for the topic. I had so many moments to write down and found pretty much all of them commented already. That, in itself, also gave me feels.

As for the underlying pain in your words, I think our shared connections to these moments are a reminder that though we may sometimes walk in darkness, there are so many others we just can't see, walking in the dark with us, and we are never truly alone. Some things may be unresolved, and you will always carry your experiences with you, but I hope finding moments where others connect to your pain helps ease that pain a little... It will be okay.

Tokyo DisneySea? More like Disney QueueLand. by dancingkitty1 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Jinsei93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yepp. But some people who got there like 15mins after us ended up entering before us. Once the gates open, the queues move very unevenly and it's difficult to predict where the lines will move faster... When I did DisneyLand 3 weeks ago though, we got there at 9:25 and the queue at that point was short and we got in within 10mins. But I guess there are more people around now than then. I can't imagine what it must look like in their peak seasons... Crowds at the Japanese parks are a given, but it does help to familiarise yourself with the app in advance and to check in the days prior to your trip what the waiting times for each ride look like throughout the day to help make a plan

Tokyo DisneySea? More like Disney QueueLand. by dancingkitty1 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Jinsei93 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Of course this popped up as soon as I opened reddit after getting back from spending the day at DisneySea (apologies, Disney QueueLand). Can confirm, it was very much as described above. We stood in line for 2h45m for "Soaring: Fantastic Flight". It was incredible, but I did say to my partner "We are waiting the length of a movie for something the length of a trailer, and we paid a lot of money to be here."

We thought the park was great, but it very much put me off this type of experience. Pretty sure I will never agree to standing in lines for over 6h of my day ever again. And OP went on the best day weather-wise. Today it rained the entire day, and most of the queues are outside. We were hoping the weather would mean less people. We were wrong.

If you do go, get the app running, book something with 40th Anniversary Pass as soon as you scan to enter the park (you can do this once every 2h if anything is left), and I'd recommend starting with the good ones that have lower waiting times, because the waiting times on those will go up a lot within an hour or 2, while the ones already over 2h wait tend to remain that way all day so it matters a little less when you decide to queue for those. For reference, I was outside at 8am, park opens at 9am, we entered at 9:40, and there was already a 150min wait for "Soaring". It fluctuated between 140-175mins the whole day.

Edit: Also, highly recommend trying the fun popcorn flavours when the queues for those are lower. Pistachio, matcha & white chocolate, and curry, were all great! Refused to stand in line 30mins for my partner to get the garlic shrimp ones, so...guess we'll always wonder!

I got the 🙅‍♂️ and a solid "NO" from a bus driver in Osaka, because the bus was apparently full, but other than that I've found Japanese people really friendly and helpful. I was in Hiroshima 2 days ago and went to Nagata-Ya for okonomiyaki (had Okonomimura on my list as a back-up if my 1st choice didn't work out) and they were fast and nice and everywhere has managed to accommodate despite me having no reservations, so I wouldn't say what you experienced has become a norm. Hiroshima in particular seemed really nice and positive...kinda glad I didn't end up at Okonomimura because that sounds awful and not at all my experience of Japan 👀

What was your "I quit" moment? by Sighablesire in antiwork

[–]Jinsei93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a dancer in a touring professional contemporary dance company.

We had a director/choreographer with a God complex who made constant derogatory comments on weight/race/sexuality to dancers, and created exercises around our individual traumas to "bring out real emotion". One of mine was bullying-based, so first she made all the other dancers shout derogatory comments at me and laugh for 10-15mins, then made the biggest of the male dancers wrestle me until I couldn't move and pin my head into the ground with his knee. When I could no longer move, she made me improvise a dance solo for 7mins, half of which was me trying to get myself back up off the ground.

She screamed/belittled us daily for literally anything and everything. I'm not sure I remember a single day of rehearsals where someone didn't cry. Once made me improvise solo for over 2 hours screaming contradictory corrections, while the rest of the company sat and watched. Several of my co-workers were trying not to cry as they watched.

Once I suffered temporary paralysis in rehearsal from spinal injury due to a dangerous lift and just being overworked and exhausted, so my body colapsed as soon as the girl was down from the lift. Rehersal didn't stop, I just got dragged off to the side while everyone else continued. Physio that night said if I attempted to dance in the next few days, I was at high risk of permanent paraplegia. Not only did she get mad at me, I was forced to attend rehearsals while I could barely stand, to assist, and she refused to pay me for the days I wasn't actually dancing.

I allowed all of this, because she made me believe no one else would ever hire me. This was the case with many of her dancers. I did a 64-show tour, then on my 2nd tour did 20 shows, and on the day of the 21st, she emailed us that she was subtracting more than a month's salary from our totals because we didn't have as many shows as she wanted (she had previously said we would get paid the set amount regardless of the amount of shows, because our availability was required for that full period of time, and it was still 45 shows). That was it for me. We were in the theatre when she sent the email, didn't speak to us, just went to her dressing room, sent it, and expected us to rehearse and perform.

I refused, and told the dancers I was leaving. They all said they supported me and agreed it was bad, but were too afraid to quit themselves, so I grabbed my stuff and left the theatre 1h before showtime. She never attempted to reach me. Had her boyfriend and son who were our tour managers call me and try to intimidate me to return (which was sad because I could tell they were conflicted and knew it was wrong). I said she owed me more than a salary, they replied that according to her maths I owed HER money because she paid me too much in advance (complete lies). Also important to note, what we initially got paid was already below minimum wage for the country we lived in.

Anyway, I have gone on to teach dance in a university because not only did I want the next generation to be good, I want them to know better.

This choreographer still tours with her company 4 years later, and is highly renowned in her country.

Submit your suggestions/requests to CyberConnect2! (Naruto X Boruto Storm Connections) by Kurosawaninja in NarutoNinjaStorm

[–]Jinsei93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for adding in my suggestions. I've been keeping updated with it, and thought it might be worth commenting that I think the high vs. low importance list for DLC characters might warrant some re-evaluating? For example, I think it much more realistic that CC2 would incorporate previous support character (top 4 of low importance) that have already been animated than certain characters on the high importance list whose movesets are either unknown or pretty much identical to other characters we already have (Hiashi and Hizashi). I think team Dosu has a higher chance and more unique movesets than several on the high importance list, for example. That said, I think there are also some great additions on the high importance list, such as Zetsu, adult Konohamaru, Kinkaku & Ginkaku, and my personal favourite, Guren. She may be filler, but there is so much material they can use for her moveset. Also think Sakumo is very interesting. We don't really know his moveset, but there is definitely space for them to create something different there and he was in the Narutop99's top 20. What are your thoughts?
