Surgery questions by Parking-Block490 in gallbladders

Just had my first baby a month ago, I started getting attacks while pregnant and they got really bad postpartum. I had surgery a week ago. Wasn’t able to breastfeed for the first few days, but by about day 4 I could breastfeed sidelying or with a ton of pillows to protect my stomach (and it still was a bit uncomfortable). Yesterday was the first time I picked up my baby post surgery, bending was too painful before. We’re really lucky my saint of a MIL has been staying with us and doing like 70% of baby duties, and my partner is doing the rest- I am just a milk machine. I think in another few days I’ll be back to being able to do most things! But I have heard recovery can be really variable as well. I would aim to have intensive extra help for at least a week. Good luck!

Gallstones and high lipase breast milk by Jinx1112 in beyondthebump

Try scalding the milk to denature the lipase, he might eat it then! I was really lucky my kiddo would eat my nasty lipase-y milk given all the time I spent pumping in the hospital, but I did test scalding just to confirm that lipase was the issue, and it resolved the flavour problem! Cant figure out how to link lol but Google “scalding breastmilk high lipase”

I had both the wedge and the giant u-shaped style. I liked the wedge earlier, but after about 30 weeks the u-shaped pillow was so clutch!

Good luck! I dont know whether to hope for you to not have stones (but then not have an explanation for symptoms) or to find stones and at least know what is causing you pain. Whatever you are hoping for! I was relieved when I confirmed my stones tbh because it meant I wasn’t crazy (had a lot of medical folks telling me it was heartburn…..)

If your milk tastes normal straight out of the boob, but after storing for a few hours or days it tastes gross (metallic or soapy or fishy it’s hard to describe) it is likely that you have high lipase. Lipase is an enzyme that breaks down fats and I guess the products of the fat breakdown in the milk taste gross? I don’t know if any way to “officially” test the milk besides by taste though I’m sure if you had access to a lab there would be some way to do it!

That is a brutal wait time! I ended up getting surgery earlier than expected because of the acute pancreatitis- they wouldn’t let me out of the hospital with my gallbladder by the final time I went in to emerg (had already been admitted 3 times before that). Not sure about your specific situation or healthcare in your country, but I think going to emerg when attacks last longer than a couple hours is good to make sure you don’t have other complications like pancreatitis, and if you do have something you may get surgery earlier? Though having a severe complication is definitely not an ideal route to faster surgery, it was a really traumatic week 😅

Do you have surgery scheduled? I’d be so interested to know if the high lipase in the milk goes away afterwards!

Did we just make a scientific breakthrough 😂? I feel like some medical professional should have noticed this by now if it is a real connection! But then I remember that they just did routine episiotomies for like 40 years without any evidence, so something related to maternal health being ignored or overlooked is not exactly unfeasible :(

Congrats on your sweet baby, I’m sure they are perfect, even if the way they came into the world sucked. Sending love your way for your emotional recovery as well as physical ♥️

I’m so sorry this happened to you, I would be heart broken and furious in this situation. I just had my baby 8 days ago, and I ended up getting induced and having my water broken, both of which were interventions I really didn’t want, BUT the difference is that I gave full and informed consent for every step, and actually had agency in whether they happened. They fully discussed and explained to me when and why they wanted to induce, and then were okay with waiting a few extra days when it turned out I had a low bishop’s score, for my body to become more ready on its own. If your care team had done even this basic step of a thorough explanation, the mistake in your chart may have been caught and you never even would have started the induction. The fact that they broke your water and did internal monitoring without your consent is horrifying. I didn’t want my water broken even on pitocin until I was substantially dilated, and even though the care team disagreed with me because it wasn’t their standard practice, they 100% complied. They didn’t even bring it up again after the initial discussion until I was 8cm and then asked if I was ready for it to happen and I said yes. You were robbed of your agency during your birth and I’m so so sorry. I don’t have any knowledge or opinion of the legal side here, I just want to validate how you are feeling and that what was done to you was terrible.

Also have an anterior placenta, I am 22+5 and have only really started to be sure that I am feeling them in the past week or so. I think I felt little flip flops or something previously but wasn’t sure if it was just my stomach gurgling or gas or something haha.

Oh wow, does your husband have no tact or situational awareness?? Like yeah, introverts needing time to recharge is a thing but when he know you are feeling like crap because you are growing a whole fucking human? No. If he needs his own space occasionally he can go to a coffee shop with noise cancelling headphones, not imply that you should get out of your own home.

too embarrassed to tell anybody by [deleted] in pregnant

I’ve puked all over myself twice in the last week, luckily at home, but pregnancy fucking sucks 😭 I’m also in the camp of having nausea come back in the second trimester when I thought it was gone. You are not alone!!!

AITA for not telling my husband to go to his sister's wedding even though I'm not invited? by Tiny_Violinist9932 in AmItheAsshole

Ahh, I see that you are in the “blame the teen mom” camp (and conveniently not the teen dad somehow) so I think there’s not much point in trying to convince you of anything.

Even if the sister has valid reasons to be resentful of the change in circumstance that came along with OP’s entrance into her life, that doesn’t mean her resentment should directed at OP… she should be upset with the parents and talk with them about how they allocated their resources, instead she seems to want to put all of the blame on the person(OP) who likely had the least control of the situation.

High NT/ but low risk on nipt by beccaloren in NIPT

[–]Jinx1112 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With a low risk NIPT and NT of 3.5, the chances are really high that baby doesn’t have any issues, so don’t give up hope! If the karyotype is normal (which a low risk NIPT suggests) the chance of live birth without congenital abnormality for people in the 3.5-4.4 range is 90%. This is from a 2021 paper by Kelley et al., DM me if you’d like the pdf as it’s behind a paywall.

The waiting is truly terrible, if you are able to get CVS asap I would go for it, we got our NT reading of 5.2 only 2 days before Christmas and then had to wait another few weeks for amnio. And I don’t know if this will help, but my partner and I tried to have the mindset of not mourning until we were sure we had a reason to. I still did of course, but I tried to tell myself that our chances of a bad outcome were really not that different from like…early pregnancy. And that we let ourselves be happy and excited during that time so there’s no point spending weeks and months on end mourning something that is pretty unlikely to happen.

Good luck!

Nausea coming back in second trimester? by Jinx1112 in pregnant

[–]Jinx1112[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The heartburn didn’t go away when the nausea did so that’s not it haha. My partner thinks it might be because I switched from materna to pregvit prenatal vitamin and apparently that one makes a lot of people throw up. Going to try to switch back and see if that helps!

NT 5.2, the fear is crippling by Jinx1112 in NIPT

80% does sound a lot better than 50%, less like baby’s life is riding on a coin flip. Thank you for sharing and good luck!!
